  • Classic Game Room season 1. December 14, 1999. Review of SEGA RALLY 2 for the Sega Dreamcast video game console system. Sega Rally 2 is the sequel to Sega Rally Championship (in the arcade and on the Sega Saturn). Classic Game Room HD reviews Sega Rally 1 for Saturn in different review, so watch that one. This really old school review is entertaining to watch and informative because to be honest, Sega Rally 2 was pretty damn good! Great graphics and solid arcade style driving physics made this game very fun. Mark and Dave reviewed this back in 1999 when the Dreamcast was brand new, amazing!!!!! Drive rally cars from Toyota, Lancia, Mitsubishi and Subaru in this game. It is an arcade sim race driving video game where you drive on different types of terrain including mud, snow, asphalt and dirt. Jump the cars, run into things (but no damage) and listen to the familiar GAME OVER YEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH song. Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Classic Game Room HD marked the return of the series in 2008. The original Classic Game Room reviewed Atari, NES, Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast and Playstation... too bad they didn't get to Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 or Wii. Now Classic Game Room HD is covering the new systems.

    LOL, it's cool to hear them still calling levels/stages "boards."
    That's some oldschool gaming terminology there.

      They do it in the Tony Hawk review too, which confused me because I thought they were referring to the skateboards.

      When talking about games I've completed, I still say, "I've flipped that game." Golden Axe is the first game I ever flipped at the arcade.

    • @KinnikuGameDojo
      @KinnikuGameDojo 5 лет назад +1

      @@traviscombs6947 It seems to be a colloquialism as well. Often said in certain parts of the usa. I have never heard it in Canada, though a friend told me he used to say that a lot when he lived in the east coast of Canada. I often would hear it in new york and jersey when I was a kid visiting family.

      Fucking neanderthals. Who the hell calls tracks, boards?

    • @Rationalific
      @Rationalific 4 года назад +4

      I'm from 5 years in the future. And that's exactly what I thought and took away from this video. I was gaming since the 80s, and when he said "board", that was a blast from the past. It seems to have died off in the early 2000s, so this 1999 video showcases this particular term while it was endangered but before (near?) extinction.

    Does anyone else want to go buy a Dreamcast again, just to play this!? No but really, I am seriously considering it. I mean look at those graphics! I forgot how incredibly smooth and clean this game was. Oh wow, you know what i just found... a CD. Not just any CD though. This CD is the CD i used to play like every SEGA game known to man on the Dreamcast. That was back when pirating console games was easier then finding bud in Boulder, Colorado (and that's really easy)! Best console of its time!

    Dreamcast runs at 60fps in 1999, Xbox One has a hard time running 60fps in 2015. What?

    • @bfcricky
      @bfcricky 8 лет назад +1

      No it doesn't, the PS4 has games down scaled to 30fps to cater for 1080p resolution, the Xbox One is the opposite

    • @JeremySteakHouse
      @JeremySteakHouse 8 лет назад +5

      +BFC Ricky My point still stands, 1080p is the standard for this generation, the Xbox One has a difficult time running 1080p at 60fps. Dreamcast could run at the standard back then 480p at 60fps all day. And I didn't mention ps4 in my comment so don't try to start a flame war. It was just a joke.

    • @bfcricky
      @bfcricky 8 лет назад +4

      +JeremySteakHouse I have a Dreamcast and I've had it since release and played a lot of games, I can assure you that Sega Rally 2 IS NOT locked at 60fps, there will be small intervals of 60fps during a race, usually on the straights and they last no longer than a couple of seconds, as soon as you come to a corner or go through a puddle or pass some architecture, it will drop massively.

    • @JeremySteakHouse
      @JeremySteakHouse 8 лет назад +5

      +BFC Ricky I've played it plenty as well and the drop's aren't nearly as bad as you make them out to be. And what about sonic adventure 2, soul caliber, crazy taxi 2, DOA 2.... all run at an unwavering 60fps. Guaranteed most games were made to play at 30fps but the capability was there and was very accessible for developers.

    • @bfcricky
      @bfcricky 8 лет назад +1

      +JeremySteakHouse Well at the end of the day, I suppose games back then were easier to run at 60fps, look at the difference in details and textures we have these days, the demand on the hardware wouldn't have been nearly as tough, but the Xbox One runs games perfectly at 60fps, IMO it's a pretty amazing piece of kit, but each to their own.

    The Japanese version actually is the only version to retain the Ford Escort WRC. The US version replaces it by the Peugeot 206, no idea about the European one and the Windows version(never mentioned) removed it all together. The Japanese version also has 1998 WRC paint jobs on the cars, which are a closer match to the ones in the arcade game, which are a mix of 97(Impreza/Evo)/98 paint jobs. The US version happened to add in the Lancer Evo VI with the Evo V, IV and III in the Japanese one.

    I really love sega rally 1 and 2.The dreamcast is good but it could have been much better if they had not rushed it.Dreamcast just needed launch titles and Sega Rally would be a pillar game for the system.The same goes for Virtua Fighter 3.Awesome titles though still play them from time to time.Saturn and Dreamcast deserved much more attention their potential was limitless.

    To make the game 60fps, at the title screen you enter up, A down, down, left, right, B, B, down
    and to get different color schemes for some cars, hold L while selecting them

    You may have a point there, comrade. I just hate it when everyone says how more advanced than the Playstation the Dreamcast was. This is obvious, since it was a next-gen system at the time! I suppose it's vaguely understandable, since I only know one person who had a Saturn back in the day, but even so.

    The Dreamcast version does not hold 60fps without frequent drops in the framerate (even when the 60fps cheat code is used) unlike the Model 3 Step 2.0 arcade version, where the framerate was always locked at a constant 60fps no matter what was happening on screen.

    @DietSoap3 Your DC games do not run with FSAA, the machine simply outputs almost all of its games at 640-480 which helps to eliminate jaggies. The PS2 ofter renders in 640-224 interlaced to give a 640-448 which is what gives you jaggies. Aliasing is not the issue. There are also other ways to soften an image. Tekken 5 is running at 640-480 with almost no jaggies, plus there is a smoothing option in the menu to eliminate it more. Check it out. The DC renders in the same way.

  • @Relugus
    @Relugus 15 лет назад

    I think Sega made a big mistake in lazily porting this and VF3. Both games were extremely important for showing people the DC's capabilities.
    Considering VF's popularity in Japan that always struck me as an odd decision by Sega Japan.

  • @volkte37
    @volkte37 13 лет назад

    @Chaniyth Not wrong as I never said the DC can't do FSAA. It can like you said as it is included but it still is rarely used. In fact FSAA is not used too often even today with the HD consoles. Go and look at Fifa 11 and Need for Speed to see the shocking amount of jaggies in those games. Higher resolutions on DC games go a long way to hide jaggies. as does a flicker filter. Some games do use it, not many though. Rogue Leader on the GCN used FSAA too. Again not many others did.

    @sonicgamer2 The biggest reason the Dreamcast failed was due to poor timing. Sega advertised that the system was much more powerful than the N64, Playstation or even their own Sega Saturn. This was an obvious fact. However, it was 1999 and the PS2 and Gamecube weren't far from being released. The Dreamcast didn't have the time to evolve and become popular because of the extreme hype surrounding the PS2 and the fact that it and the Gamecube were arriving so soon.
