Classic Game Room season 1 - 1/20/2000
If you look up the word "Old School" in the dictionary you'll see a picture of this game. It was made for the legendary Atari 2600 in 1978, way before such things as motorized horseless carriages, World War I and light beer. It was probably made before your parents even met.
Game Room reviewed Atari, NES, Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast and Playstation... too bad they didn't get to Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 or Wii. Развлечения
This review is almost as old now as Combat was when the review was made.
It's older now 😅
I wish you would come back and do more awesome game reviews on RUclips Mark. I guess we still have these old playlists that we can go through, and that’s nice!
Same!
He’s coming back finally!
@@Rumblefan I hope he does more than just promote his Kickstarter Blu-ray’s and do shorts.
Mark is so hardcore, I like to imagine his left difficulty switch on his Heavy Sixer broke off in the "a" position.
If you're watching these old episodes and HAVE'NT got the DVD yet... do, it's friking hilarious and Mark does commentary over the entire thing =')
Did someone realize this is a 40 years old game ? Woooooooooooow. I played it first in 1979 and I still remember how fascinated I was from this and Outlaw when saw them first at a friend's home. That's when I decided I had to buy absolutely VCS 2600. And bored my parents till they gave me little by little the "enormous" amount of money I needed for it. I was so happy and played so much combat the first evening that I think I dropped in my bed like a zombie.
mother of god.. that's the game. i was 4 years old, my older brother set up a video game console in the garage downstairs. I was so excited, we played together for days. Its just a vague blurry memory of tanks and a joystick... so happy. Warm, safe.
I love these videos. I never knew about you back in 2000 or access to the internet but I've been watching these videos every year for the past 8 Yeats maybe, love this show
I love your show! It takes me back to the days of my younger years!
25 years for real! Glad you're back even if only for a little while.
Dude, I'm back again for another watch. I hope you pick up doing videos like these again someday!
Oh I hope you guys get together and make new episodes there are so many PS2 and xbox and all the nintendo games you could discuss. I only recently discovered the gold that is the Classic game room and am loving every episode of it.
MORE PLEASE!
so dave is indeed alive! lol I'm glad you guys are still in contact thats great to know :)
i played this game ,& space invaders, on Christmas morning in 79/80! woohoo great memories!!!
Clasic ATARI 2600 I had so much fun being a kid playing that shit!
I really want to see the Space Channel 5 review that had snippets shown on the DVD. Don't stop posting until you get that one up!
Liked your show and of course I LOVE the Atari 2600 Combat!!!!!
hehe awesome review guys! I loved Combat.
Good ol' Combat, LOL! 40 games that we're pretty much the same, really, but hours of fun for us '70s kids. I remember the big red bomber vs. the 3 little white jets, and the tanks in the maze with ricocheting shots.
Combat FTW! This game was INTENSE back in the day!
I actually liked Combat for some reason. It was the game that came with my Atari 2600. I don't have my Atari 2600 anymore - I gave it away in the mid 80's. Knowing what I know now I would have kept it.
I love Classic Game Room!
First 3 minutes are the best thing ever
I started out as an 80's child with an intellivision. Sure it had the scary multibutton controller but it was an overall better system. It wasn't till the NES that i ever actually enjoyed gaming for more then 5 min at a time.
Mark n Dave, u guys need to come back n do more reviews of old school games. Cheers, brothas
Love this game.
OH GOD THE MEMORIES!!!
Wow 14 years ago ahaha
WhoaNellyJake i freakin love this channel
Wow a comment from 6 years ago

Dude, you need to come back and do reviews on classic games!
It was! It's model code is CX 2601!
Love the GITS:SAC shirt!
IIIII LOOOVEEE Classic game room in 1999-2000 . :]
well today CGR is biggger than ever, which is great.
Some of my first and earliest memories are of my dad and I playing this game...
i loved this game growing up
My sister and I used to play this game for hours when it was too dark outside to play or it was raining real bad. This and Maze Craze aka Cops and Robbers. Two of the most addictive games ever made. When she wanted to play with her dolls or watch tv, I would than play either Demon Attack or Raiders of the Lost Ark. Great memories. I just wish all kids only played games when it was too dark to play outside or they had bad weather. There would be fewer fat kids and gastric bypass procedures done.
I remember this game now! IT was shit hot! The airplanes bit brought it all flooding back.
when my dad came over to visit me today, he saw that I had an Atari 2600 and got really happy.
We played Combat for a good 2 hours until he left. need to get me some mor atari games. I only have 4 as of now. I also need an atari 7800.
You guys had me laughin with the wood grain reference lol I was like hell yeah..EVERYTHING had wood grain in it. Ahhh..memories are so beautiful! You young bucks just keep living. Imagine looking back when you'll laugh at the 360 one day and thinking damn..we use to actually play that piece of shit lol
This video was originally released on my birthday
Fun Fact: Combat was a home conversion of an arcade game called Tank.
Fond memories of Combat. Bleep Beep Beep Beep. I grew up with this as one of my favs.
i love this game.
Still have my 2600 from when I was a kid, and thankfully it still works. Can play Pac Man, Plaque Attack, Gopher and Smurf. Trying to get my pinball game to work. I could still sit in front of the tv for hours. Good grief.
mom23funkids same here me and old friends of mine came over my place yesterday to relive our childhood friday nights
You should still play it! :) Retro FTW!
do u guys still have that Sony PVM ? i want one so bad
These games look very primitive to this day, but are still fun to play. Never really seen or played an Atari at all. The games are a little boring by todays standards. Not all of Atari 2600 games are boring. I guess i find some of them are boring cause i was spoiled by the SNES,Sega systems and N64. Great review.
i played this game more than ive ever played a modern day game
What did the PS2 originally look like? I can't find any pictures on Google.
no but its the greatest hat simulation to ever exist
Dear Mark,
The Atari 2600 can also be played in outer space, where there is no gravity at all. Something the PS2 can't do.
Sincerely,
I thought the narrator was in their 50s ~ amazin'
I really enjoyed Combat. Alas finding someone to play with was an issue. It gave rise to my love of tank games. Now "World of Tanks" fills the void for the tank game I always wanted.
I loved the oak finish...lol
@bean420man When I was 6yo, my father & I went to K-Mart to buy an Atari 2600. (previously we had an Atari "Video Pinball/Breakout" dedicated condole (no carts). I was literally the 1st kid in my school with an Atari. @ the time there was only like 2-3 games available ($50 each/$150+ current rate). We'd check stores weekly for new releases (that was FUN!). Once 3rd party games came out, there were too many to keep up. BTW, in 1977 that Atari cost $299 or, near $1,000 adjusted for inflation!
I think you're really getting pro!
Wow, Mark really sounds different!
Hey, that looks like Triple Action on the Mattel Intellivision.
Hey, can you help me remember the game? It gameplay is very similar to Berzerk, but main hero looks like one from boulder dash and it also has more types of enemies
I'm going to go pre-order a PS2!
"Firewood Faceplate" might be a better name considering how those poor things tend to cook themselves. =)
I don't really blame them; I never really liked the Playstation 2, even though it played DVDs. XD
You can put a pencil on a 2600, but you can put a pint on top of a PS2.
Pint holding ablity > pencil holding ability.
Combat was more epic then Modern Warfare.
I had an Atari 2600 in 89, and it was fucking amazing. "Real Gaming" started with fucking Pong.
Can't believe this is near enough 23 years ago.... I hate the world today compared to the 2000s and 2010s
Combat forever
Arrgg the ricochet room! the blue tank could hit the green without ever leaving his spot. just turn about face to a 45 degree angle and doot doot doot, doot doot doot,du du du du BOOM
I've always wondered what mark looked like.
It's easy to talk about 25 years after. But Atari games were the father of your favorites games.
I have a 360 and a PS3 and I have not noticed a difference between either. Only that the Playstation Network is free. Gears of War is pretty great though.
Np. Truly though, there are a few touches that make Xbox Live slightly more fancy, but I think that the PSN is more efficient.
You can actually get a wood grained faceplate for the Xbox 360, sadly no ridges, you'll have to stick with the 2600 or the PS2.
Wow, I guess pre-ordering the PS2 was the right thing to do when you look back at it. Little kids got their PS2 ripped out of their ahnds, people sold them for up to 5x the retail price and so much more craziness.
@rourin It was a 70's thing. I think people that had $ in the 80's, made it by investing in the 70's in wood grain futures, LOL. EVERYTHING was wood grain in the 70's! TV's, stereos (hey, WTF happened to "stereos" BTW???), appliances, houses (wood panel) hell, I had a pair of wood grained pants, LOL.
I had more fun playing these sorts of games than todays games. They are getting better looking but lacking gameplay.
I still consider Combat to be the best Atari 2600 game of all time. :D It was the only game where my brother and I were equally matched. It's the only game in which I actually enjoyed the two-player.
That said, there's really not much to say about it, so I'm glad y'all didn't try and instead filled the "review" up with other funny, yet ultimately irrelevant, stuff. :P
Have you actually tried playing the 2600 on its side or upside down?
The VERY FIRST Atari 2600 game!
dave looks like a vampire :D
nice and very funny
Damn, I miss the oak finish!
What was USA Alive TV?
A file sharing site for video
HOLY SHIT, THERE'S A PLAYSTATION !2! NOW?!?!
Just think if they hadn't invented the nintendo or sega, 5tonyvvvv, we would be playing this game today and maby to many kids wouldn't be sitting on their butts playing video games all day and going outside to play more often. Give the Atari some respect. Without it you wouldn't have the games you got today. I own an Atari and PS2 and I think they're both GREAT.
PS2 was 400 when it first came out? damn.....
If you have any bad game disks just tie them together and make a frisbee
@devonjames10 Oh come on! Wasn't he "jumpman" from Donkey Kong?
do you need 2 controllers?
Did anyone ever play as the giant aircraft?
And how low was your score? XD
Even since 2000, I was never really wowed at all by the PlayStation 2, especially since it had a crappy selection of game titles that came out when the system was released.
My buddy and I are doing game reviews because of you guys! We just recently did a review of Combat! You should check us out and let us know what you think!
My big sister owned this game.......
oh man, how we all thought PS2 would be sooooo amazing. but even though it was supposed to be the console that saddam can launch nukes from, Dreamcast still spanked it graphically.
30 years before Call of Duty
wood to go with your wooden tv. Remember?
yes finally the first person woooo (bring back the game room)
oak finish gives it character :)
He said that the PS2 was the ugliest system ever developed, and now he's nowhere to be found on CGR? I think there's a connection!
reminds me of the game on wii play TANKS
I miss Dave :/
