- Atari's answer to Intellivision sports video games: Real Sports! A quick review of:
RealSports Volleyball
RealSports Tennis
RealSports Soccer
RealSports Football
RealSports Boxing
The goal of these videos is to see how quick I can crank out a review after a long day at work, with about one minute reviews based on a theme of games (this one is games that are in the Real Sports series of first-party games by Atari).
I love watching through these old videos, it makes me so nostalgic
I think this was the first episode where LGR found his "early" voice. The last two sounded too much like his interpretation of AVGN, but this is all his. Conversational, really, like sitting in your friend's game room while he shows you some titles you didn't know about.
I wanted to see how your videos evolved and started watching them chronologically starting from the oldest, and I think this is the video where your style becomes more familiar to what the viewers are used to now :D Anyway, please continue making videos man, I am thoroughly entertained :D
The crowd noise in Boxing sounds like a meteor about to fall on you.
The ending felt kinda incomplete but then again I really like your reviews so maybe I just didnt want it to end ;)

What have I found here? Damn you are young ✌️ love Tennis and Soccer for the 2600. still couch coop them today on my 7800. Together with all the Summer and Winter Games. boxing I like the Activision top down version much better.
that crowd cheering noise is actually a soothing sound in my opinion I could fall asleep listening to that
The "crowd noise" just reminds me of being a 3yo trying to play f14 tomcat, when it made that noise you were about to launch off the carrier, i keep waiting for the three beeps and the catapult sound haha

I'm still partial to Rocky Super Action Boxing on the Colecovision. My brother and I used to play that quite a bit!
Never played any of these games, but there was one game missing for this episode is "RealSports Baseball", a good game than "Home Run".
Usually I agree with you on damn near everything... but I freaking love that stupid crowd noise from old sports games haha

The computer opponent seems to be able to move considerably faster that you can. Is it even possible to score a point against him?

Realsports Football was fun for a while. Most offense plays would not work against the computer at all. You could forget the running game. However, there were a couple of pass plays that worked almost every time if you timed them right. The computer defense never figured out how to defend against those plays, and you could just march down the field. The computer had terrible offence, and you could usually make it lose yards on every play.

That Realsports Boxing looks better than Fight Night for the 8-bits. What did they write that thing in -- COBOL?
The Crowd sound sounds the rocket ship engine on cosmic commuter and other Atari rocket ship games. Intellivision had the Best Crowd sounds, the whistling and the Air Horn.

The Football is actually the best of all, there was a lot to it for its time

To beat the football game just go back when you have the ball, move up, then down, then go forward and you are home free, in hard mode you need to repeat it because the computer player runs faster then you but that's how i did it as a kid

you should play super football for atari 2600. Its ok for a football game. Touchdown football for the atari 7800 is good to. You should try those.
I love playing Championship Soccer. I think while it clearly is limited, it actually feels like a real soccer match at least when you play against a human. You can like side step them and the passes feel legit. Good game!

That crowd noise reminds me of NES games, so I don't mind it so much. Granted, it doesn't go through the entire game on NES. There are occasionally other noises, so it's probably more tolerable in that instance.
