Ground black pepper??? That's bullshit. You know what actually is AMAZING for repelling the ants? WD-40, PB-Blaster, or similar. I have no idea why, but ants will not cross over this chemical, even long after you've sprayed it. Works well outside too, since it's an oil and doesn't wash away easily.

Fun cheat from the PC version that I've never seen mentioned anywhere: if you lay your first egg off the screen (have your egg-end at the edge of the underground section, so that the egg lays off-screen), you're born as a second queen, which REALLY helps you out early on.

This game brings back unrelated memories: when I was 9 I saw it on the back of an issue of CU Amiga and that issue came with the demos of Borobodur and Harlequin, except no one told my 9 year-old self what a demo was and I thought the games were broken because they stopped after a while.
You can't buy or pirate memories like these.

Yeah. Demos have been on sale since forever. It doesn't really happen anymore thanks to the internet, but magazines with demo discs were expensive stuff.

I was an IBM PC user back then, so I played "SimAnt" on Ye Olde IBM clone. One favorite move was to "take over a spider" and attack the red ant nest. (It wasn't too long before the spider succumbed to ant venom.)

You should do a review or gameplay video on SimSafari. I can't find any videos on it. It was my first sim game.

I had the Amiga version, the sound was the same if your machine had at least 2MB of RAM, and if you played the Hi-Res version, the graphics were very similar too. I loved that game and would like to see a modern version today.

The background music is SimCity 3000 music. Double nostalgia trip.
