      ;) Back when I discovered how cool ray tracing was, back in 1991 on my i486DX33, I would be describing basic scenes within text file configs, using primitives and referring to texture images, etc. When it came time to render to 1024x768 256 colour, I'd kick it off just before going to bed, so that it would be ready for me when I woke up after shortly after.
      Rendering single frames literally took hours! Although it was actual ray tracing with non-faked reflections and refractions, so nothing like the compromises used for 3D games of the time.

    I think it would be possible to get Mac OS9 running natively on Wii, not via a linux abstraction layer, but natively natively.
    You'd just need to basically modify the entire OS to treat the wii hardware as native mac hardware, which means drivers and add-ons to teach OS9 how to use the Wii's hardware.
    Something like the software uses for Sonnet CPU upgrades, something to redirect the bootloader, native SD card/USB support using the Wii's controller, new memory mapping, new GPU drivers (which might actually not be that hard since it's an ATI GPU).
    It would be a lot of work for a meme.

    this framerate _(and quite possibly font)_ issue may be due to lack of compatible video driver. even if there’s none widely available for the specific part that’s in the console it’s worth trying to search for the _.kext_ driver files for hacintosh for parts of the same manufacturer (unfortunately i’m not familiar with Wii’s exact specification, but I assume there’s a chance that it may use GPU from a somewhat conventional brand), even if the specific models won’t match. i remember i was able to “guess” my way to get the wireless adapter on Eee PC to run succesfully on OSX 10.5 (Leopard). still, be prepared to brick the system a couple of times along the way, but i somehow assume that you may already know this loool

    • @pikachuchujelly7628
      @pikachuchujelly7628 Год назад

      The Wii's GPU is the ATI Flipper, and it only exists in the GameCube, Wii, and Wii U. While there were some ATI graphics cards in 1999 with similar feature sets, they would certainly not be similar enough to use the same driver.

    I used MOL *seriously* for a while on my iMac DV back in the day, with linuxppc as a base, it was very, VERY good and I could use it for codewarrior and so on, and the speed difference with the 'native' version was really negligible. I don't remember that font problem on the 'real' iMac tho, it's odd! Perhaps there are a couple instructions that differs *slightly* with the original G3?

    • @pikachuchujelly7628
      @pikachuchujelly7628 Год назад +2

      The Wii's CPU is basically a G3 (PowerPC 750). It lacks AltiVec instructions that a real G3 has, with its own Nintendo-specific vector instructions instead. I think the font issue may be some incompatibility with color depth.
