The black Wii with the Japanese case could actually be a Japanese Wii, but flashed with the American Wii Menu which could explain why Wii Sports had an update since some files could be missing after flashing the American Wii Menu, but that might be a bit of a stretch.
That sounds more plausible than just the Japanese disc drive being replaced for an American disc drive, like another comment suggested
I mean, the wii was already on 4.3U (last update for the wii) before he updated it so, makes sense
nah i remember people did that back in the day, system update was one of the symptoms if i remember
@@AmphiumHQ The console is already on the latest Wii Menu version (4.3) which came out in 2010 and Wii Sports came out in 2006 (revision 1 discs in 2007) so there isn't really a reason why it would normally update.

Also, you can exceed 24 hours of game time in the logs by leaving something running over night. If you change games just after midnight, and then close just before the next midnight, you can clock nearly 48 hours lol. Source: I used to leave games on over night sometimes.

@@mystraunt2705lol ikr... I mean maybe kind of weird but fwiw not a fire hazard if not leaving it in a unwise or foolishly dusty/flammabke area etc fwiw.
@@YoureARokstarr as long as your console isn't making a weird noises and all of the cables are in decent shape, it's not a fire hazard. trust me, I left my Wii running for about 2 months strait.
Fun fact about the first Wii in the video, you can usually tell what region a console has based on the update version in the top right of the system settings menu at shown at 1:10. At that time stamp, you can see that it says: 4.3U, therefore this is in fact a North American region Wii and hence why it read North American Wii and Gamecube games no problem.
So you are most likely correct that someone strangely did a case swap on this Nintendo Wii with a Japanese Wii for some reason.
Also could be a region swap.

@@kevinwheeler4061 Not the case. The disc had an update on it; that message is shown as a warning that _if_ the console has unauthorized modifications, the update could remove them. It is shown whenever an update is conducted, whether the console is modded or not.
I once modded a Wii to have a different case. bought on AliExpress and had a Japanese replacement sticker. Might be that simple. @@Tearnalte
The reason for the lack of data on the SD cards is a lot of people thought you needed one for memory to save games or you know etcetera etcetera
The Nextar USA Maps is probably a data card for a car GPS. Those are often what dealers charge $300+ for to enable mapping to the infotainment unit. For it to turn up in a Wii is pretty funny.
My Wii still has its flaps. I think people either remove them if they use the gamecube ports often, or they break off from being left open. More often I hear that they were removed and lost.
I always removed the GC port cover because I always kept my Wavebird recievers in the ports. I just stored the port cover in the Wii box.
My old wiis flaps got loose overtime. never messed with it or anything
That sd card is totally meant to update the maps data for a gps built into a honda Odyssey minivan. Very appropriate to end up in a wii lmao
Finding a GameCube game in a Wii is like having a curly fry in a basket of regular fries.
If you leave the Wii on for over a day straight, it will just say 23:59 for whatever was open on the day that it was closed.

A few years ago, I picked up a red Wii from a local thrift store for $40- came with a second matching red Wiimote and two red nunchucks. Worked perfectly, and it's in pretty good shape.
My Wii has both flaps and actually looked like the GameCube controller port was never used. It was also in great condition too. It wasn’t complete though but it wasn’t a bad deal. I eventually got the parts that were missing for cheap anyways. Still no box though
My flaps being intact are also probably because I rarely used the GameCube ports
@@jrob0021 I used to have an original Wii when I was young. Never even knew it was GameCube compatible then so that does happen sometimes. That Wii was sold for the Wii U back then that I also don’t have anymore since back then my parents always sold a console for the newest one. Atleast now I don’t have to do that anymore.

I was lucky and bought a GC backwards compatible Wii a few years ago from good will for $40 and it was pretty much never used.
Someone bought it for that balance board, used it a few times and just stop using it. it didn't have a single scratch on the case and both doors are on it (they still are).
I soft modded it and put all my games on a USB HDD, slapped Nintendont on it so I wouldn't have to use the GameCube ports.
My wii was bought at launch or shortly after launch, like late 2006 or early 2007, i don't exactly remember, but I still have the 2 flaps on the top of the wii. My wii is like around 17 years old, and it still works perfectly fine, other than the disc drive sounds like it needs some oil replacement on the gears, but other than that my wii is still fully functional.
I'm still rocking the original Wii I got as a kid when they first came out lmao both flaps still on it and it's now modded with a 128GB SD card in it. A lot of the local ones on marketplace are missing the flaps though and I genuinly don't know how they get lost, mine has been moved 6 times and has sustained exactly zero damage.

In 2008, when I first got my Wii, I watched quite a bit of Netflix on it. It was the easiest way to stream it on my TV at the time.
I have a red Wii, and honestly, I absolutely love it. It's just so normal to see the white or black ones, so having the different color is so nice.

I used my Wii for (local) streaming right from the very beginning. There was some software for PC that would let you serve video files off your hard drive through a web interface over your LAN that you could open in the Wii browser by putting the IP address of your PC in the address bar. We used it to play downloaded anime fansubs, etc on the living room TV.
My grandparents have a launch Wii and it surprisingly still has its flaps

to check for a modded wiii hold reset to see if it has priiloader installed which is a pretty common tool for changing the wii's region and dashboard as far as im aware

my wii for some reason the gamecube controller flap hinge is very loose and comes off relatively easily. I had all flaps but then i left it with my friend for a month or so and he returned it without a flap lol. Only recently bought replacement flaps from aliexpress

KING BOB... also the red wii came with Mario Bros Wii in a sleeve when it came factory. Unfortunate you didnt get it. When i bought my launch WIi, it had an issue when i bought Super Smash Bros when it released, it had an issue with not being compatible with Duel Layer DVDs for the games. I had to send it into Nintendo to get it replaced.
Love this channel and now I’m mad at myself for not getting a Wii. I never knew they played GameCube games.
Not all Wiis work with GameCube games so be careful when buying a Wii so that you get the older model that has the GameCube support.

Wouldn't surprise me if whoever put that Mario Kart Wii disc in upside down just accidentally tested the Wii upside down. I mean, unlike the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (or pretty much any other game console), its obvious when the system is upside down. But not so much with the Wii. It really was the first system that looks normal when upside down (the Wii U would also appear rather normal upside down)

@@YoungMrBlue but other than rubber feet on the bottom of it, it could accidentally be placed upside down....its not like the PS3 where it can't sit flat upside down or the xbox 360 where it would be obvious its upside down when you eject the disk tray...

those wiis that was actively used with those channels like netflix and hulu, in particular the one with photo's really make you think when they were used actively in their prime.
I bought my Wii a few months back because our Wii broke in like 2014 and we got rid of it. My Wii had no flaps when I bought it so I just purchased some aftermarket flaps and replaced the missing ones.

I used streaming channels on my Wii because it was essentially my replacement for a DVD player, and my TV at the time wasn't compatible with HDMI.
My Wii, which I got new when I was a kid, still has the flaps and works great. It is the Super Mario Bros 25th Anniversary red wii.
Man this console is my childhood I have a black backwards compatible Wii with soft mods to play and burn GameCube Iso's . I had 32 classic GC games that i ended up selling for 700$ to build a gaming pc. but i got my Iso's its hard to get these looking good on a modern tv its 480p i mean like wish it at least pushed 720p. up scaling is a hassle man. I gotta get a crt tv with component hookups for it to look its best like its designed for it right
9:17 i loved build and race as a kid, u got to build race tracks and then, surprise, race on them. the racing part wasnt super great but the building ur own tracks bit was sweet haha
I do have all the flaps on my Wii. In fact, mine is a red one; those were the Mario 20th Anniversary special edition models. They also come with red WiiMote+ and nunchuck. The sensor bar, cables, and PSU were all the regular grey though.
yes everyone used the Wii as back up streaming devices in guest rooms or Dens. it was the main use late in its life. Once they ended Netflix support everyone threw them out.
My best guess for that 2gb map SD card would be for a navigation radio in a Honda Odyssey since the file names said “Odyssey”
Also i currently own a red wii but im missing the GC port doors so it kinda looks like if the wii took a mario fire flower with the white mismatched GC doors

My wii has the flaps missing because I use my wii mainly for GC games, and because GC controllers are wired, it has seen the floor several times. On that note, I'm not surprised every wii you tested worked since those things are pretty undestructible. I've had my wii since I was 10, almost 20 years ago.

I've got two of these things. One has flaps. Both have what they came with-bought 'em used. I've seen a couple red NSMB Wii units, but what I haven't seen is the blue Skylanders Wii. If I saw one I might pick it up (assuming flaps intact.)
The flaps are actually made to be removable and could easily be removed. I guess they never popped them back when they fell off. My Wii's still have flaps.
I lost the original Gamecube port covers on my Wii, since I played Gamecube games fairly often, but I got new ones a few years ago.
My wii got both flaps still, but the gamecube controller flap is missing the pieces to connect it to the console. I don't even remember how that happened.
Yeah, I took the port covers off my Wii, since I would frequently use it for GameCube games. Not sure where I put them now.
I safely removed my wii's game cube flaps to prevent damage by either the cord resting on them or if I so happened to bump into the wii.
I personally got rid of my flaps cause I exclusively played GameCube and hated the look of them open
At least my Wii has 50 or more mii's, and there not from the check mii out channel, i didnt know it existed :), 2012 me missed out on getting mii's.
For me, the Wii was my primary method of accessing Netflix and RUclips.

I think the Buck Wii might be a reference to a character Eddie Murphy used to do on Saturday Night Live, called Buckwheat. The character couldn't quite form words correctly when speaking, so Buckwheat becomes Buckwee/Wii.
My childhood Wii has the original controller port flap but the memory card flap is not the original, got a replacement on Nintendo's website in 2013

My wii has a missing flap. If you open the gamecube door while the wii is on its side the hinges snap.

Yes both of my Wiis still have all flaps. But the game cube ports were never used so that's probably why.
I’ve got my Wii from sometime shortly after launch and still have flaps and all original accessories. The only thing I’ve replaced was the sensor bar because it broke

On the Japanese wii with english, I was gifted a japanese wii, and this was like 20 years bck so I honestly couldn't tell you how I did it, but among all my modding files I was able to format my wii and make it a north american wii (so if you opened mine, you'd probably see the same type of thing)

The "Wii system update" isnt a update at all and instead its trying to find homebrew and remove it for good by replacing the file it boots from with stubs
I'm genuinely shocked that you don't see the homebrew channel popup more and the bannerbomb\letterbomb emails that softlock the wii when opened unless you have what it wants on the sd card.
duuuude i just bought a wii from a Savers for 20 bucks and the only things wrong with it were busted hinges for the gamecube ports and the fact it had the wrong region's plug. what's kinda funny is one of the miis that were still on it on it has my name

I played Build n Race as a kid. It was kinda shovelware from what I remember, but I had fun with it.
I have 3 Wiis, 2 of them still have both flaps. The other only has one flap though. I never used streaming on the Wii either, I wouldn't have even known how to do it anyway.

I personally didn’t use streaming on the Wii, but I had friends who did. (They used it for there Netflix’s)

My first Wii's Gamecube flaps broke after a few years of use. The mechanism that holds the flaps in place is fragile, and couldn't handle opening it and closing it multiple times a day. Surprisingly, my 2nd Wii did not have this issue.
P.S. I find opening a Wii is annoying due to the variety of screws holding the case.
