- Part 3 of our GT2 review. Classic Game Room HD reviews GRAN TURISMO 2 from Polyphony Digital for the Sony Playstation 1 video game console. Only CGRHD has the audacity to release a "Part 3" 9 years after we released the first review in 1999, but we did it. Take that common sense! GT2 is a classic video game that needs to be revisited. Released in 1999, Gran Turismo 2 set the standard for what an amazing driving video game and racing simulator should be. Hundreds of cars, dozens of tracks, CGRHD takes a spin on one of the best trackt that has vanished from the Gran Turismo series... RED ROCK VALLEY SPEEDWAY! Similar in many ways to the high speed ring which has returned in Gran Turismo 5 prologue. This is a unique Classic Game Room review because it is a part 3 that comes back in a different decade, and a different millennium. Revisit and enjoy the ultimate driving game on the PS1, Gran Turismo 2! Somebody tell Polyphony Digital to put Grindelwald into Gran Turismo 5, the full version! We want Grindelwald in GT5! NOW NOW NOW! Gt2 on PSone. Hype!

GT2 was the first real racing sim I had and I believe it is responsible for my love of cars and sim racing. Red Rock Valley was probably my favorite circuit on the game, and it was absolutely epic to blast around with the Escudo, the Toyota GT-One, even the Renault Espace F1 minivan!
Wow a 4 part review! I just found this and xenogears in my closet so I picked up an emulator popped the disc into my PC and started playing. Love the CGR review, love the game. Nostalgia FTW
Just stopping by to tell you guys that I'm still playing GT2 in 2015. It's such a good racing game.
+Horst Wrabetz You're not the only one who plays GT2 in 2015. I do too! And I will continue to play GT2 forever! GT2 has to be the best racing game ever! It's my favorite!
agreed
And that's why I love the series. As a kid, I had a PS2 and my favorite game was GT3. Just the music in the menus amazed me. Plus, the graphics (at the time) just blew me AWAY! Like, their are racing games for the 360 that I buy, and then I'm like "Oh, that's a pretty good game" and I put it on my shelf and every once in a while I'll get the urge to play it and I'll play it for a while and then, later I'll play it again. But, with the GT games, when I get the chance to play it, I'll play it. lol
oh Man hearing the music in this game brings back SO many good memories!
Thanks for bringing back the memory of GT2...Red Rock Valley and Grindelwald, man they need to pack them in GT5!
When you play any other GT game again, you're glued to it!
i always drove the toyota GT-one road car here. Brings back good memories.
The Gran Turismo series has probably been quite literally the only game you get a love for. It just shows how much cars and tracks show their importance and almost romance lets say. The series also gives you a feeling that no other game gives you, literally. Its what made GT so special! I personally believe that all the GT games have been the best games ever. And I'm not joking. You don't even need to be a car-nut to fall in love with these games. But it crashed when GT5 came out. Hopefully GT6.
Your 300ZX had racing mufflers. I remember that sound well from the game. I too wish that they had kept these tracks, your review reminded me of them.
GT5 was almost a fresh start in the GT series. Their entire style changed form cool and wacky into calm and smooth. Hopefully they will gather together what everybody wants in the perfect GT game for GT6 such as all the Original Tracks, All F1 cars, Theme design, Theme sounds, No jazz, Good music, And of course to bring you good memories.
This my favorite song in the whole world and I love this game to death
Man, I miss this track soooo much.
I played GT2 3 years ago, and this game, I never get bored at all. Lots of fun!
And this one's one of my favourite track! But it vanished... I want that on the next release: GT5.
Garbage (the band), Gran Turismo 2, and the 300zx were three of my biggest loves in 99. Still is.
having 300 foot chickens shooting lazer beams is like hell on earth.
I miss Red Rock, I nearly forgot about it...the overpass and tunnel was FUN!
Yeah, I used to play GT3 for HOURS on end! I'm surprised I didn't go blind from the TV. lol
Whoever is playing is really good at GT2
O_O Whoa, this is weird. Just last night, I started playing GT2 again after not playing it for YEARS!!! My GT Mode disc still has that pit-stop smell on it!
I was also very dispointed when i bought GT3 and looked trough the tracks and suddely realised grindalwald and redrock were missing.
Grindalwald was so nice!!
I recently picked up Forza 3 and raced on Sedona Raceway, and I was instantly reminded of this track. The first turns are almost identical, and even the time of day and scenery are similar in both games. Is it possible that this track was inspired by Sedona Raceway, and then Turn 10 took some ideas from Red Rock and inserted them in Forza 3?
Red Rock is nothing like Lime Rock Park.
If GT5 has 250 courses, it's not as if they'd be starting from scratch, especially if they use ALL of the previous tracks they made for GT through GT5 Prologue.
I would definitely like to see Spa added. The Nurburgring is in GT4, so that wouldn't have to be done from scratch. I'd actually kind of like to see the Macau, Denver (1990-91), and Vancouver (1990-1997) street circuits in GT5. I think they fit well with the city tracks already included.
I was in love with that track
3rd MR Challenge race. There's another race on this track that's really good for money: the 3rd "Gran Turismo All-Stars", you win a TVR Speed 12 that you sell for 500,000.
This map is AWESOME too - i drived it allways with the Suzuki Rally car (for 2 Million) i loved it
5 /5 ;)
I wish they kept this track, this was one of my favorites.
thats cool!
im looking forward to this!
This great game took the PSX to it's limit. I've played it for hours and hours.
red rock, my favorite!
I always used to drive the Toyota GT1. I remeber I got upset when I was faster with the Escudo. That car didn't feel right: it's like cheating!
GT2 is still the best racing game out there...Forza 4 and GT5 are great driving sims, but GT2 still is the complete package.
I don't think Red Rock is bad, but I have mixed feelings. A number of the corners seem rather samey, and the second half of the lap seems almost a mirror image of the first half. Grindelwald though looks great and I would definitely like to see it again.
although i do like the idea of turning the track into a water park, yet keeping some of the track. that would be good for a mod of this game.
This track owned with the faster cars with lots of aero downforce with all the high speed corners
This track needs to get back in the series!
this track was also in Forza 3 still love this track
I was kinda a pro on this track cause I raced on it every time, to win a Speed 12 and sell for 500.000 I love it! the course and the sky are wonderful. The onlt thing I don't enjoy in this track is the color of the ground. I know it's sunset but... it's a weird yellow ;-/
i think the developers of GT5 want to make a surprise and already have lots of tracks designed, but they wil lrelease it with the full version! like grindelwald and red rock and so on
Miss this track soooo much:'(
lol i bet you are going to make a huge review when GT5 this November and it deserves one after all this time waiting
this game had the best musik n cars im from the motor city n ilove this game best in history
The TVR Speed 12 at Red Rock in under 1 minute is amazing. Try it.
And try the Dreamcast bleem! emulator for GT2 for better, cleaner graphics. I'm bruasGT online.
I loved my 93 supra
I think there was a competition in this track where you had to complete 5 laps in Red Rock ( I think it was Gran Turismo All-Stars) and then if you'd won you would get the TVR Speed 12, then you could sell it and get 250.000 to 500.000, my favorite games are GT2 and GT4. ah the memories.
GT2 and GT4? Dude, those are my favorite Gran Turismo games too! 😄
Do the music differ between the PAL version and the NTSC Version??? , because i didn't remember of that music in a race ;(
Man i loved this track GT 2 4Life ^^
the nearest modern version of this track is the speedway one on forza (forgot it's name but definitely very similar to this one).even has the sunset and desert/high speed ring.
great track
GT2 had an awesome sdtk.
Ah the last race in the MR Championship. Easy race in the Dodge Concept Car LM Edition
song in background=nostalgia
i got my escudo through that 250,000 race, won a car sold it, won it again, sold it again until i had 2,000,000 for the escudo :D
LOL i like your theories on red rock speedway but the reason its gone is cuz of red rocks in colorado...they threatened to sue and instead of changing the name they dropped the track.
we should push for this game to come out in the psn store
I would love for gt5 a dlc with the remake of some old cirquit! I want back El Capitan from gt4! and some other map from gt1-2-3 :)
it seems, that i should take my old ps1, and play this game.. Nostalgia :(
in gt2 i have the 300zx LM race car, its is my favorite car!
i heard a rumor that all of the courses from past gt games will either be on gt5 at launch or available through download on PSN.I hope it is true
your a sick driver
Here we are almost the end of 2017 with the new GT Sport available on PS4. This track still haven't make a comeback to the series....🙁
I think this track became Midfield in GT3. They look similar.
i wish that this could be an online game
As far as I know, the track is not real, it was made by Polyphony Digital, so Forza can't have it (unless they buy the rights, I guess, but why would PD sell it?)
does any body know that song is in the back ground
and my Zonda race car owns them both... but then so does my Carbon R (R34) so its all good lol
i will do it!
Red Rock was good but my favorite was Midfield. I lurrvved Midfield
C'mon guys. GT1 debut looked way gorgeus.
All the fucking rides in GT2 are waxy as shit. Reflections..? Who were they kidding ? Bad result. Just decent but I'll go GT1 anyday.
@dojOdRiFTeR where did you here that? it would be cool
ohhh shit a still can remember this game i was like 8 when i used to play
DOES ANYONE KNOWS THE NAME OF THAT SONG?????????????????
Gran turismo 2 :)
old times ;T
must of been a big-ass Wal-mart 0_0
unless you are talking about the track only, which would still be big.-_-'
you should review, ONE, for psx.
When it hits such numbers, they would either need an army to design and test that much, or those will all be combinations and variations of the same shit, or it's just not gonna happen.
I swear theres only like 5 or 6 songs in GT2, get extremely repetitive to me, I dont give a shit though, i'll force myself to like the music since I love this game so much. Theres allot of tracks that dont ever appear in the GT series again after this game, VERY strange considering people liked some o dem tracks, like Grindlewald
woow! this track! really?
@zonda01
Yeah, i think it was. I was wrong in my last comment.
Sedona Raceway Park..
@mastershak3416 It's not in Forza. The track has only ever been in GT2, it doesn't exist in RL.
Gran Turismo 2 was the best version, followed by GT3.
i could do that in an AUDI TT LM edition
or the UNISA JECS SKYLINE
lol ur theries r funnyyy
i think i'm paranoid !!!
@ps3beatswii
yeah, i mean "track" :)
But i only play good games, so no COD for me ^^
greets
I think its going to be a delicious chicken.
Better then KFC.
@szczur17l Thank's
"I Think I'm Paranoid" - Garbage
i'd buy gt2 for £40 if it was on the psn
Meh; Singapore circuit will take a while to develop.... lol
Does this guy actually think this was a real track?
@wuffiee Did you just say MAP!? You play Call of Duty too much...
@jkarlos009 Garbage - I Think i'm Paranoid >> watch?v=Fc6thwTVwtU
Not Interested.
