On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies & tv shows and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!
I do lifestyle and beauty videos as well, ranging from wearable everyday looks, makeup tips and DIY natural beauty treatments, to fashion lookbooks, vegetarian recipes and more extreme Halloween tutorials.
If you enjoy history, you've come to the right place as well. I have a few series based on historical makeup and hairstyling that are my little passion projects.

My mom who is now in her 90's would pin curl her hair. She would pull out a strand and put a finger to her scalp at the base of the strand, and use her other hand to wrap the hair around that finger. Then she would pin it down to her head. She had a lot of hair, very thick, but shoulder length.
I'm 69 and that is how I learned to do them as well.
The Hufflepuff pride and Rita Skeeter reference made this video for me
Bravo for giving this another try. Use a hair net at night over your pin curls or rollers and pin it to the nape of your neck so it holds and you'll find it works sooooo much better. And you're correct about water spray misting. And use the same approach with your rollers.
When it comes to rolers, if you roller from the base first and roll horizontally, you'll achieve more of a wave. If you roll from the end up to the root and vertically, you'll get more of a curl. Good luck with it and again, bravo on your forward momentum.
If your set is well done (like it was in this video!), seriously do not be afraid of "over working" it! It will not come out once you brush it! I find it's quite easy to get to a point where it feels like you should stop, but push past that and keep going until it's all smoothed out (rather than leaving it with slightly chunky/separate bits of hair). Also try using the curve of the side of your hand to try "molding" the waves into the shape/direction you want, as well as a bit of backcombing in the front section to help sculpt it in the direction you want. Especially if you are just in an experimental stage, I say just brush the hell out of it with your boar bristle brush and see what the results are!
Oh, thanks! I'll try to brush even longer then :)
Yes to this. It can take a lot of brushing (unless you want to do an I love Lucy style poodle ... which is what I always did When it refused to brush out!!).
Yes! Brush brush brush!
I brush mine for 10 minutes sometimes and it's not enough when my curls are really set! A struggle in the mornings I'm in a rush lol
Hi!
Rollers are definitely better for your hair, they hold much better and longer!
By the way, to avoid having my hair too wet, I personally wet only the last third of the hair strand and don't need any blowdriyng after.
You should secure your turban with additional Bobby pins ^^
A big, dense brush will definitely help, and you can sculpt your curls by brushing them under or over your hand.
And just a tip: if you want to look 1940s, brush your hair away from your face. If you want to look 1950s, brush it towards your face!
Really nice video anyway, can't wait to see another ;)
Holy shit! That was fascinating to watch. Mind you, I'm not a hair person (yet) because mine is hard to work with
Great video! Thank you. I think it would also be useful if you could do a check-back after a few hours of wearing the hairstyle and after sleep to show how well the curls hold.
This hairstyle reminds me a lot of movies featuring Lauren Bacall. Well done!
it looks amazing! i recommend using a paddle brush to start off with, just to break up the curl, and then using the bristle brush
I have had good success with sleeping in "soft pillow rollers". They are much more comfortable than the pink foam rollers. Thanks for the video!
Love the background music! And pretty much everything in this vid 😊😍
Great job Lucy! I think it looks pretty good. Pin curls are not easy, and with practice, it'll get easier. I second using a paddle brush from the get-go to brush out. Brush only against your hand as you brush out, to shape and mold the curls while minimizing frizz. I also second using a product, like pomade. I use a water based pomade that I love. I have naturally curly hair, and it is my savior. Using a little bit of product that is movable/mold-able will help hold and shape the curls during the brush out.
you looked so cute with the dry curls still pinned up! if you ever fancy having a short do and a perm it'd look great, haha
I'm from Libya and here some girls following this method to attend the big celebrations like marriage and stuff and they're mixing the lotion with little amount from creamy shampoo I don't know the reason why but the curls stay for longer time after that. tbh it's so so time consuming 😅
The shampoo probably helps make the hair sticky and frizzy! it would hold shape and be drier for sure. Interesting method.
Before you brush out, Finger Brush your curls out. Then use the brush, don't brush so hard!! And you DO want to have that "S" wave at the top to side of the face. You're getting there! 😊 Tip, you can place a couple of pins to hold your scarf in place at night 🌙. 😉
Watching this while having my morning coffee to relax before a long, long day at uni. Thank you fo making sich calm and interesting content!
These pin curls made me think of the velcro rollers used on Victoria's Secret models backstage to give them the amazing bouncy large curls/waves hair. A Victoria's Secret fashion show hair tutorial would be great!
They came out so much better. Love it. But if you want to secure an all day hold... DONT DAMPEN.. Full wet and towel dry. Without fine hair it's necessary. When you sleep on it with the "overly damp" hair and setting lotion you can be more aggressive with it, lol, it won't come out. My hair never holds a curl unless I do the wetset over night. the hardest part for me is shaping as I brush out. My arms get tired. Also, you can use a comb, its better for shorter hair though, for your length I would suggest the denmens (sp) styling brush. I do love roller wet sets with setting lotion, when I cut my hair, I got more of a fun 30s wavy bob.
I used to pin curl so often! I've forgotten how fiddly but satisfying when it works!
I think it turned out beautifully, great job! Can't wait to see you try rollers and find out which works best. Thanks Lucy!
I'm so happy you're making a series about this yayyyy! I'm going to try this for school!
I just found you. Oh my goodness. OB-sessed! I would be tempted to just cut that piece that didn't curl 😂 I seriously had a professional do this at a hair show I modeled (aged ago). They just snipped a piece of hair from my head like it was nothing. You did awesome!!
Lots of love from India..😘😘😍
Just to let you all know my mom had the most gorgeous naturally wavy, brunette Rita Hayworth hair. I still have a picture of her with her gorgeous waves. Firstly, I tried your headband curls and they were amazing! Easy as pie. In order to end frizz I tried something else. I have Sebastian shine heat protectant spray. First I style my hair using the spray and my curling iron on hottest setting. This gives me a frizz free base for days and shine to the max! I HATE setting lotion it make my hair feel like straw. Then night after night I put my hair in the headband curls and they brush out frizz free and so easy!
It looks incredible! Well done!
You are always beautiful Lucy! I love this vintage style on you a lot. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks with us! I want to try a pin curl set again soon since I go swing dancing regularly and like to sport a 1940s look every once in a while. Love from Texas!
Also I don't think it looks like an old lady look. I think it looks like a mature and sophisticated lady look. ;)
so cute on you! 💕
Loepsie, you nailed it😍 Soft, beautiful, elegant. Outstanding 👸
the hair looks gorgeous!
It looks so good on you! Especially with the red lips and the glasses x)
Start by using a big paddle brush to combine hair. Then use those smoothing brushes from r finishing touches. It will save you time.
Ladies and Gentlemen may I introduce my natural hair texture :D I just hate it so much because it eats up all of your length and gets frizzy and dry in no time. But for some reasons it always looks so smooth and perfect when you do it! You have so much talent. :)
Try The curly girl method
Watching your videos relaxes me lol
You should give a try to pomades. It help me to define more my curls and they hold really well. Love your videos 😘😘😘
This is very beautiful, this is a success ! It's seems very authentic !
I loved the hair as it was soo spiralling and curly I will try it 😍😍😍
Aww you look so cute with the glasses and the curls!!! Love from Argentina

Just amazing
Outstanding! Looks very Katherine Hepburn or Lauren Bacall.
I love your glasses, you look great with them...
Awesome video i never miss your tutorial but this is my first comment on ur channel love from India👍
Very informative, Lucy (and I loved it in general, hello from a Gryffindor who loved the Harry Potter references!)
Sugar water is a great setting lotion (approx.1 cup of water and 3 tsp sugar, heat on stove until sugar is dissolved, let cool, put in spray bottle), just be sure you don´t use too much otherwise your curls get crunchy and are hard to brush out. I hope this works out for you, I swear by this!
awesomee ✨
I never knew you were from the Netherlands (or Belgium)! Until I saw your hair product from Kruidvat haha!
fabulous
Oefening baart zeker kunst!
I pin curl my hair every night for volume& shape as my hair does NOT hold a style! I only do 6 on each side and use v05 spray gel after brushing out. My quickest pinning time is 2mins 45secs. Pin curls have changed my life! 😀😁😂🤣😃😄😅
Beautiful
I'm so happy to know you have pet rats, here in Spain is not very common and most people think one is crazy for having them. And they think you are picking them from sewers or something.
Looks so 1940's- you did an amazing job!!
Omg it's gorgeousss
Loved it.
beautiful!
Ha they translated the versteviging in French but it's not even available in Belgium (now i look at it it's not even available online... Does this thing even exist anymore?! I hope i won't have to those stores aimed at professional hairstylists to be able to get those)
Loepsie I like your hair very much❤️
Hufflepuff pride!💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
Loepsie....very nice hairstyle
Are you using a synthetic backcombing brush for the brush-out?
ahahah should have watched till the end, you've answered my question already ^_^
What is the purpose of the head scarf?
Super job dear👌👌👌I like ur red lipstick 😊😊💝💝💝💝😘😘😘😘
Instead of having to spray it with water, why not wash your hair then towel dry and apply setting spray be much quicker for you.
why do rats always decide to drink at annoying times? Mine always does it as soon as I try to sleep
Rat noise
I've known ONLY one who was really silent while drinking. Well, the rest....rat noise. And fights at night iihhiii ihhhh iihhhh boum bada boum boum (somebody fell from the hammmock) of course! HahhA
Roll some paper and used it it will make your hair dry fast and makes the curls look healthy..
How long did this take to put in and brush out? It looks really nice as well👌
Thanks! It took a little over an hour to put in, and I believe I spent between 15 and 30 minutes brushing it out.
You only find out if you are a patient person when you try to do pin curls.
I'm still unsure whether I think it's worth it or not 😅
Mabey for special occasions ?
Hey Lucy 😊Hi dear👋 plzzz share the video of voluminous hairstyle with thin hair 😊😊😊😊😊💝💝💝💝💝
This looks great! A suggestion for quicker rolling- check out MissBeeTown's video on the two types of pin curls and how to roll them. She uses pin curl clips but you can still use the bobby pins and get the same results. It'll go a lot quicker with your longer hair! Using your boar bristle brush from the beginning will also help. She also mentions around the 9:00 minute mark about where you place the pin curl can affect how the hair swoops (so you can get your fringe section to swoop down towards your face and not up and away). ruclips.net/video/6tr2PaUvJgg/видео.html
Woww niceeee
I think your hair looked crazy cute before you even took the pins out!
Did women have to do this every night or just every hair wash? I can just imagine it took less time because of the shorter hair...
They did a full set after every wash, but the curls do need a bit of re-pinning for the night if they're to last a couple of days. Shorter hair would definitely speed up the process, but that's a place I'm not yet willing to go, haha!
Most I knew (passed on now) would wash their hair every 4 to 7 days ... so not every day. Hair worn up doesn't look greasy like loose styles and indeed holds its shape. That's why wedding hair dressers ask you not to hair wash that morning.
Typically for the 40s pin curl styles there were a few different cuts that optimized the style, and they were shorter. Look ou the Midi, and baby vintage haircuts. Mostly it would never be as long as hers, with a few exceptions, and it was easier and faster, but they would do this every wash. Between washed they would wear hair up on a silk scarf when they slept and maybe repin a few that fell out. They also used headgear when out to protect for humidity and rain so extend the life of the curls.
Every hair wash for normal hair or natural wavey hair..
For afro hair you need To iron it for silky hair you need to use wax oe faoum on a wet hair before pin it and yes silky hair need to do it every night .. just iron it..
KISS FOR BRAZIL!!!! 😍
😘

Rita Skeeter LOL
I love ur vedios
You r very cute😘😘😍
Why do rats drink just once or twice top a day but they drink the hell out of it? Wouldn't be easier to drink less water each time, but more often? There must be a reason, but no idea.
Lv u
I have to do wet sets in the afternoon because I need my sleep.
Did you get yourself a Denman brush yet? You won't look back.
Ey die trui is van de primark!
Nyc
So gorgeous...
Попробовала так сделать. В общем пошла на работа как пудель. И Это ещё мягко сказано.
I love you very Mach❤💙❤
Does anyone think she looks like Margot Robbie on the cover of her this RUclips video?
I know you have desk behind your bed. Why didn't you do it there? Hair and kitchen/dining table don't go together. And I hope you didn't put the water glass back in the kitchen. I love though, very much. Don't be 😡. Xoxo
Wha... what? 😂 Am I supposed to thow out the glass? You do know I clean things, right. Including the dinner table and the glass 😜
Uhhh what?
Pretty and creative. ☺️
