    40 plus years ago I installed the export brace in my Cougar Eliminator. Helped greatly for auto crossing I did and at Waterford when the Shelby Club would rent out the track.

      I used to auto-X my '69 Eliminator back in my 1980s college days. All this time I thought I was the only one! Not the ideal vehicle for it, but it was what I had, I learned a lot, and had fun in the process.

      It is a really good idea on the stock cars. I recommend doing some kind of support adder like we are doing to help stabilize the brace.

    Maybe a few pie cuts on the vertical side of the angle iron? Bend it, weld them up.

      Yeah we did that, not sure that Andrew got the footage. We'll probably open with it this week. Sparks make us happy. LOL

    We have a export braces in our 65 Mustang and 68 Cougar. We highly recommend installing this handling upgrade. Thanks for the video Jeff!!

      Thanks for the info! I agree. The only Pony cars that don't seem to need them is the 1971-73s. Ford by that time seems to have figured out how to stiffen the chassis better (mostly by welding in the engine crossmember re the '66-71 Fairlane.

      I have a horrible weakness for falcons lol.. I've always wanted to do a 2 door station wagon as a road race car. Put some paper Grocery bags in the back With loaf bread et cetera in the bags and go out there and lay waste to all the other more modern cars lol.

    I was just removing this upper brace from my 61 Comet this last weekend. Came out about the same as yours. Incrementally more chiseling and finally cutting it off with the grinder. Haha. But I’m going to a MustangII front end, so the whole shock towers are coming out next.

    You told me this video was coming - lo and behold here it is! As usual great timing - the installation will be a little tougher on my Falcon as I have the engine installed but it’ll be worth it 😉

      We will be doing one on the RRS shock tower brace when we pull the engine from the 1964 hardtop. This car only needs the Auto Krafters one.

    I agree with your theory on the export brace. I think they did it to make it easier to pull engines

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  2 года назад +1

      That bay is really short from front to rear, and if the braces are gone you have the room to make that job easier. Now there are two of us agreeing we just need one more and we'll have a full peer group study to build our case on. LOL

    Thanks for the vid; had been wondering about this improvement for a Falcon.
    I watched your video on installing an export brace into a Mustang before doing this in my own Metal Cat (Cougar). It can be rather discomforting to see how much these ancient steel hulks can flex. I placed the old braces on top of the new one piece for comparison purposes, and the warpage on one of the old ones was very noticeable.
    I had also been wondering about a bracket sold by some vendors that was much like the one you discussed and showed. Bonus points to you and your crew on that.
    it's been pointed out that these cars were only meant to last ten years, so scrutinizing anything even remotely related to safety or drivability is time well spent.

    This is a perfect opportunity for a little fire! (Everyone likes fire right) You can get the angle to bend with a little heat on the edge you want to shrink, and a bucket of water to quench it.

    The struggle is real with power in my little one bay shop as well. I need to add at least 2 more 110 circuits and some 220. But first I have to come up off some 💵

    Is it possible to remove the shock absorber upper mounting bracket without jacking up the car and removing the lower retaining nuts? Just wanted to make sure I didn't create a shock missle...lol. Need to remove the bracket so that I can finish removing the factory brace. Thanks!

    How difficult is it to install a "Monte Carlo" brace in a 65 Mustang?

    • @lewist3591
      @lewist3591 2 года назад

      Quite easy. I had a problem where the upper shock towers had leaned in. Left it on jackstands so they’d open up a bit.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  2 года назад +2

      It depends on your distributor and air cleaner set up. A stock 14-inch air cleaner will do fine with a stock height distributor. But a DUI style distributor will have an interference issue. with all types of Monte Carlo bars.

    • @WalksInThunder
      @WalksInThunder 2 года назад

      @@AutoRestoMod Too bad, so sad. There is an HEI pokin up. Blueprint set this engine up with a pointless distributor. I had to go with a smaller air cleaner.
      I've seen a different bar with a loop. Would that work since this is a "restomod?"

    Ford Australia and NZ didnt bother with these braces and our roads are a shit ton worse than yours. Even the GT Falcons didnt have them.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  4 месяца назад

      But the Aussie Falcons did get a bit more undercarriage bracing that the US cars.
