Ok I looked away for a second. Then I heard:everything is going to bolt in perfectly. I looked back quickly and saw the face I knew I would. Your sarcasm is classic. 👍🏻
Just installed one on my 65 Falcon, with the engine out and got lucky, the holes all lined up perfectly! First thing that did not fight me going in lol. Thanks for the video.
Wow, you really must be a mind reader. What timing 😋 After watching you do this install I’m definitely getting the idea that installing the cross member with the engine in place is probably a serious challenge. This mod may need to wait until there’s a need to pull the engine, which I hope isn’t any time soon 😉
I've fought to install multiple versions of these, as they also barely clear the oil pan and '65 V8 steering (or don't if you get a road race pan). I'd really love to engineer a setup that's a combination of motor cradle and lower A-arm mount.
The moment when I saw the distance I had to cover was like: "how do I fix THAT?!" luckily my dad and uncle Bill were and are great shade tree mechanics and passed some of that thinking power on to me.
Also good to note that this is the same for the Mercury comet. I didn’t even know this was a thing, but now that I do, I will be looking to spend another $100, thanks Jeff. 🙄 I know I know, we can always count on you to show us how to spend more money on our hot rods. I’m just waiting on the video where you show us how to make our wives happy with it!!! 😂
Anything to brace that floppy front clip. My 62 falcon sedan originally a 6 cyl came with the lower brace and appears factory original. I’d like to put it in the 63 since the 62 is not longer stock. The straps are a great idea!
I having to replace mine in a 1970 Torino, which is a welded in piece. It was hit somehow, and twisted backwards. SO, I am going to have problems with it moving that much when it is cut out, or has this car s[read out from years of having no crossmember in place. I don't have any ratchet straps. Should I go buy a couple? I am wondering if it actually pulled the rails IN, from being twisted out of shape? The engine is out, with a crate engine on the way hopefully in a few weeks.
Open Tracker Racing offers a crossmember that was used on the Boss 302 and will bolt up on your '67 Mustang. opentrackerracing.com/product/mustang-streetcompetition-engine-cross-member-w-jack-pad-fits-hipo-shelby-1965-1966/
Don't Y'all have a lift?.....I know I saw one lying around there somewhere in previous episodes.. Good on ya for making do! Good pointer on the ratchet straps to pull the rails in!
They do, but he has this car set up and leveled for the floor pan install, and I think the lift is still occupied by the forever transmission install. (Not throwing shade Jeff I know there have been issues)
@@ericdolan2130 I have a single car shop that I have done one engine swap in and now it’s full. One of my sons sbc350 on an engine stand, my 260 Ford block and about 4 roll around tool boxes, 2 of which I was just given. My oldest is in the process of buying a house and has nowhere to put all his stuff, so yeah I’m still doing oil changes in the driveway. 😂🤷♂️
i have my crossmember on the way i still wont to know can it be installed with motor in car or will i have to pull the engine to install the crossmember
It depends Joe. If the car is worn out (I am 58 and getting worn out so it isn't a far stretch) Sometimes it will bolt right up, sometimes it won't. We show how to help that, just not sure if that will work for you.
I don't know. I think it could be done, but the straps are going to need a heap more tug with 700 plus pounds pressing on the shocktowers. I might would jack the engine up seperately. do see if that induces any sag to help.
Jeff, your belly button is leaking. Better check your gasket up in there. That, and would you also run some tacks on the cross member so you're not putting all the lateral stress on the bolts? Also... will you run a Monte Carlo bar up top too??
Dang, thought I got that thing checked. I'll be going over the top end next. I need to get a Export Brace from Auto Krafters. But I have seen no supporting the use of the Monte Carlo bar on the Falcon.

Glad to do it now I'm going to have to do another one on my 64 Falcon hardtop. The car wasn't badly abused so I think we'll be okay. Famous last words
Maybe the easiest task yet on the Ranchero. Congrats!!

I feel pretty sure that the engine would make the issue even harder.
Damn that's awesome! I like these new products that make falcons better! Thanks Jeff!

A lott of Aussie Ford Falcons came with a bolt up cross member. It was a Ford fitting. Brian H. Australia
Not the funnest thing you ever did but we sure do appreciate it. I never would have thought to use those straps 😀

Always the goal is work smarter not harder
Great channel, I've gotten some great ideas for my galaxie
We'll be doing more on our 1963 Galaxie soon.

HAHAHAHA! We're working on the wife video, so far we are at hour 4,246. Edited, it should only be 3.465 hours long.
IT'S A STRAP! - Admiral Akbar
Hahahahaha
Pretty cool idea.
Jeff, I too have a 62 falcon with that factory brace. I always wondered why the other 5 or 6 Falcons and Comets I’ve had didn’t have it?
Not really sure. Weird that the six cylinder cars got them and the V8s did not.

Honestly, I would take it to a really good frame shop and get them to do the work. There may be things that won't be evident until it is too late.
@@AutoRestoMod well I do have a background in auto body repair. It's already welded in and fit like a glove.
Can you still remove the oil pan with this crossmember installed or do you have to pull the motor?
Jeff---I'm assuming this same procedure would work for reinstalling the engine crossmember on a 66 Mustang correct? Great job as always!
It should
Good job
Thanks
I would use woodworking clamps 3/4 bar clamps may work easier
Thanks for getting back to me on the crossmember. Are you guys will be at any car shows in 2021 ?.
Most likely not. We work most Saturdays producing content. But we have talked about a couple of shows we'd like to attend as a family.
Thinking I need this type crossmember in my 65 mustang
Not sure that they have one, but I think it would be better than the stock one.
So now I think I have cross member envy

Issues are turning into subscriptions...
I like this vid, however looks like you could you have done this without laying under the crushing machine?
The straps were set up to lay with the hooks opposite the tightening arm. So no way to do it from up top. Believe me, I went there first.

blame Tank McNamara for all this!
LOL.
What makes a car battery drine
Half a jack handle for leverage on them click straps.

Lol glad you like it!
Bench press that bar!!
We are here to PUMP YOU UP!
Truck binders give you quite a bit more leverage
OK
Can this be done with a online 6 ??. Thanks
Yup.
Do you think it possible to do this with the engine in?
Possibly. But it would be harder due to the extra weight.
sure can, I did it the only problem is its PRETTY tight. I will change your camber by about 2 degrees per side if your car is out of alignment !

She just gripes about the food bowl having silver in the bottom and not liking the weather at any of the doors. But I still Love the little fur ball.
The solution was to buy a chevrolet... 😂
Heeey now....
