I disagree because I think overall a lot of people would benefit from having more muscle mass especially for back pain which is quite a common issue nowadays. Of course that means they need to exercise more but also they will need to eat enough proteins to see progress. Also I have issues with most of your points : 1) An animal like the Gorilla eat about 10% of its own bodyweight daily compared to us human that eat about 2% or so. Which is how they get enough proteins as herbivores. Herbivores also have different digestive systems that take longer than ours to digest food but in return allow them to extract more nutrients. Some of them even get additional proteins from microbial fermentation of fibers. 2) When you want to lose weight you usually want to maintain your muscles too so it make sense to eat a protein heavy diet as a way to minimize muscle loss while reducing overall caloric intake. The food industry put as much sugar, salt and water in their food as possible to increase weight and reduce costs, they often cheap out when it comes to proteins as it's the most expensive macro. 3) Human don't grow as fast as most other animals so our babies don't need as much protein. This doesn't say anything about adults requirements. 4) Nothing much to say here, most people eat enough proteins for their sedentary lifestyle so they don't get deficient.
I appreciate your respectful comment. I agree with most of your points here, but I also don't think they necessarily negate the points I made in the video. But certainly your point about needing strength and muscle for back pain and avoiding injury is a great one, I 100% agree. But as you say, my understanding is that lack of exercise is the major problem there.
As for the protein concentration difference in breast milk: Growth Rate and Developmental Needs: Human infants do grow more slowly compared to many other mammals. This slower growth rate correlates with a reduced need for dietary protein, reflected in the composition of human breast milk. Brain Development: Human breast milk is rich in fats and carbohydrates, essential for brain development. The human brain undergoes significant development in the early years, requiring energy-dense nutrients like fats, which are abundant in human milk. While the overall protein content in human breast milk is lower, the quality and bioavailability of these proteins are high. This means that the proteins in human milk are efficiently utilized by the infant's body. The amino acid composition is such that it provides exactly what human infants need, without the excess that might be required for the faster-growing young of other species.
An elephant spends 14 to 18 hours a day eating, you would have to spend the entire time that you are awake eating if you were to feed on grass, and it wouldn't be sufficent as humans don't have the physiology required, as we have an almost absent cecum, or you can eat a more nutrient dense food, such as meat, and use the rest of the time to do other stuff. I remember doing the maths once when someone brought broccoli because they have "the best proteins to calories ration", I think it worked out that you need in excess of 3kg of broccoli to match the proteins in a 350g steak. I can cook and eat my steak in 20 minutes, I hope you have planned ahead and saved enough time to eat 3kg of broccoli.
I actually have never heard the food industry say anything at all about protein. The main verbiage I hear from them is about how fats are bad (hence non-fat alternatives being everywhere) and carbs are good (hence refined sugars being everywhere and also why the cereal aisle is the most dense aisle in the grocery store). Fitness influencers are the ones who talk about protein, and while they're not always accurate, I trust what they say (especially the ones who have a doctorate in PT or a degree in Nutrition and Human Performance) over someone comparing human nutritional needs to the nutritional needs of elephants and gorillas.
Really, i believe, our main nutritional problems come from processed, manipulated and fake foods. As whole and as natural, as can be, is the best food to consume.
There are essential amino acids. Every protein source has a certain distribution of these acids. Having too little of a certain amino acid like for example tryptophan can result in mood disturbances. Usually we think only about muscle loss but proteins are more involved than this. Proteins are also very important for people that do a lot of sports, because they increase the recovery. The animals you are talking about eat almost all day long. We humans have a much smaller digestive track. Our large brains are made for more concentrated food sources. A baby is in a completely different growing stage than a toddler or a grown up adult. The comparison makes no sense at all, and breast milk has a super amino acid profile. Overweight people usually eat too little protein. Protein has a lower calorie density than carbohydrates and fats. When you feel full with a volume V and you replace a part of the carbs for protein, for the same volume you will have a less calorie dense meal. Obese people usually have a very weak musculature and protein also can also help here to improve on this. Bodybuilders exercise a lot and their bodies require a lot of protein to recover and build. A body builder needs to eat much more protein than an overweight person. But an overweight person usually still need to eat more than currently doing. About the protein deficiency There are many people with weak musculature around. There are many tired people around. The reason for things like this can be a protein deficiency. You said that doctors talk about protein but they don't see it as a problem sometimes? I'm pretty sure the ones aware make also some protein recommendations. 1. Simple. Herbivore animals can produce all amino acids by themselves so that they don't need to consume them from diet; while we homo sapiens could not produce 9 amino acids so we HAVE TO get them from diet.
You can tell you have no idea what you're talking about immediately. All amino acids come from plants. All. Animals do not create amino acids at all, the amino acids that humans create are simply combinations of amino acids that they have consumed.
Comparing biologies of entirely different species and using that as an argument for nutrition doesn't seem like a winning angle. Especially when plenty of science exists for this already. There's really no need to theorize or create false equivalencies here. The opening of this video just shows that the presenter didn't bother looking into how protein actually works in different species.

This is false. ALL mammals have "essential" and "non-essential" amino acids which must come from their diet.
