I never fall into the trap of eating at the resort restaurant anything other than breakfast because most places offer the same menu based around eggs, oatmeal, toast, etc. Eating like the locals is where you'll get the real value and flavor of the culture.

    • @jjryan1352

It depends on your stomach. Some people easily get upset stomach just from the traveling, let alone trying new food, and street food at that. People who've tried different foods and can handle spicy foods don't have a problem. You do need a rather strong stomach to handle random street food. But yes absolutely the way to go if you can handle it. Some people travel around the world staying at nice hotels and resorts and eat and drink pretty much the same things they do at home. I don't get that.

@@jjryan1352 I really don't understand the point of travel if you aren't interested in local culture (which food is a huge part of), You could just stay at a nice hotel in your own city but I guess then you wouldn't be able to brag about it on social media.

The thing I miss most about living so close to the southern border is the Mexican food. Not the bastardized Tex-Mex, THIS kind of food. It was definitely a huge culture shock for me because I lived in Indiana. All inclusive resorts are to drink, not to eat. Wake up, have whatever mediocre breakfast they have, walk a bit, find a populated food truck, eat to your heart's content, walk back to the hotel and drink away the night. If you feel like having dinner leave the hotel once again, find another place to eat (your nose will guide you). Enjoy the stupid cheap delicious Mexican street food, go back to the hotel and have a couple drinks to ease digestion after having such a party of flavor going through your mouth. Rinse and repeat for as long as you stay.

Cancun, playa del carmen, oaxaca, san miguel de allende, san pedro. Those are one of the big money traps here in mexico. If someone really wants to go to any of those places and have a limited budget, do what locals do. Maybe even ask a random person in the street where can you find good and/or cheap food. And take a look at the prices, there are some people that will charge you more because of how you look. This can be applied to more stuff, like souvenirs, clothes, shoes or whatever.

One dollar per tacos for the first batch...amazing. I always try to make sure there are plenty of locals in any restaurants I visit. Did one in Hong Kong which sat 5000 people and myself and Brit colleague were the only non-Chinese. Once a waiter finally took pity on us and translated the menu it was amazing😋😋. Hey Sonny, I've been a huge fan for about a year now. I know you're stranded in the US at the moment, and doing videos here. I'm wondering if you might find it interesting to do a video in New Mexico, where I grew up. The food is very specific, based on New Mexico chiles (the best in the world) and with some interesting variations. You could even spill it over into the Navajo reservation in NE Arizona. Just a suggestion, otherwise please keep going!

Great video, but it is important to seperate tex-mex from authentic Mexican food. You ate a corn tortilla, not a "taco shell" and try to hold the taco straight to avoid making a mess. If you go back to Mexico you should also visit Oaxaca and Jalisco since they're less touristic and offer different food!

Sunny you gotta eat the taco with one flour tortilla at a time. The secon one that comes with every taco is to make another smaller taco with the filling that falls out when you eat the first taco. You basically had the opportunity of eating 8 tacos! 🌮 🌯

@@aaronhutchinson885 It is funny when people finally realize that you are wasting your time, quite often eating "more lame gringofied food" and or being charged Way To Much for it at All inclusive hotels and "tourist restaurants." Your a better of getting a Nice, Basic, Clean, Air Conditioned hotel on the beach , by/close to the beach for less money. And the walking around the town checking things out. Maybe meating nice people. Maybe seing some interesting shops or craftsmen, Unique items. You might even see musicians on the street or "rotating through" at different food spots. I does not matter if things you basic to you where you see "food stands" If you see a bunch of Locals around eating ... If a business relies on locals to make there money... You Can't Food Poison the Local Customers that You Rely On" 🙂 Places where they basically "only serve tourists" , they MIGHT take the risk and say well "maybe the beef /shrimp is still good... if not they won't know where they got poisoned and we'll never see them again" .... 😅 Enjoy! Blow of Paying a bunch of money on expensive all inclusive hotel food, Hit the streets, explorer and Enjoy Tasty Local Food without getting ripped off! AND Help some locals for a bit instead of "large corporations." 🙂ALTHOUGH be careful if you go from eating milk and cereal for breakfast to eating hearty, meaty, greasy, cheesy spicy chili laced food. You probably wont get food poisoning but you digestive track may get "freaked out/messed up" from being in shock from the totally different food! 😲😅😉 Maybe start the day of with something easier/lighter, less heavy or spicy before moving on to whatever you want to be eating/trying for lunch and dinner. 😀 Or Maybe nothing will phase you. 😅😉🙂
BUT DO DEFINITELY go to at least a couple decent "fancy" restaurants for a dinner, breakfast or brunch on your trip. Get some "atmosphere" an maybe a bit higher grad of food quality, ingredieants, and maybe a bit mor "artisinal" of a recipe. 🙂 Or if you are Unlucky,,, You might just get the same quaility of food for a bunch more money to use a fancy chair, and table with ceramic plates. 😅😉

Also, it's known for good and very reasonable elective dental procedures that in America comes with an astronomical price tag. Of course attracting the wealthy from all over the world. Hence, it's THE place to go for new teeth.

20 years ago it was great for artists and people who cared about the world around them. Now it's Instagram twerkers and families wishing they didn't make the mistake of going there. Somehow, in the past 15 years it became dirtier, more crowded, and more overpriced than Cancun-proper. The amount of trash and chemicals currently dumped in the natural waterways - including cenotes - is hard to stomach.

You can pay money to head down to Tulum and whatnot (worth it), but Tulum is already "The next Playa del Carmen", and in some ways it's worse. He said the same about the crowd. I told Vladimir I thought I could visit and scrape by on a starving artist 🎨 budget. Vladimir stated NO WAY in no uncertain terms; and then went on to prophesy that I would be calling him begging for a ticket home to Florida, inside of three months AND he stated that I didn't want to dilly dally around and miss my flight.
