I'm from Southern California and my entire life, I thought eating chili on candy, fruit, etc. was just widely known and accepted and I thought Pulparindos and Chili Rokas were staples in all store's candy sections throughout the US. Wasn't until early adulthood that I discovered this is a foreign concept to a lot of other Americans and one that usually gets a 'yuck' face. Not just for the candy, but for so many reasons I am grateful to have grown up around a dense population of Mexican people because I really became immersed in parts of the culture growing up and there are certain things I do still today that I couldn't imagine not having as part of my life. These things would not have been shown to me if it wasn't for the Mexican friends and families I grew up around!
