This goes to show how H&S in the UK has gone completely overboard. Massive flywheel weights spinning, no belt guards, fingers just a few mm from cutting/ stamping machinery and they all still seem to have their heads/ arms/ legs/ fingers. They even look at the camera whilst operating machinery. Great video and good to see this very old machinery still in use. Most of it looks to be US made..
Machining is still a hazardous occupation *with* OSHA handy. I’ve seen workpieces get loose. Got chased by the (corncob-sized!) broken end-mill - and I was not running that machine. I have run them, just not at *that* location. It used to be worse, though. Ever read Upton Sinclair’s book “the Jungle?”
Has anyone stopped to think how all this machinery, made in USA, got to such poor countries? People making sprockets, rubber hoses, brake pads, cylinder sleeves and hundreds of other products that were made in America before WW2. These machines got there due to unions, government creations like OSHA & trade deals like NAFTA. Businesses' facing millions of dollars to retool and comply with these regulations simply moved their machines to foreign countries and set up shop for half the cost of retooling. Then the savings of cheap labor and increased productivity. People in these foreign countries make and repair things that we in America use and throw away. They have been recycling things for a hundred years before we in America figured this out? We were making these machines and airplanes, ships, tanks, jeeps, tires, guns, ammunitions, uniforms, shoes and most everything during WW2 better and faster than anyone in the world! What happen to that mentality? Why does is take war to be productive?
I always have a hard time to understand how these local operations can be profitable? Are these sprockets for some special niche application that is not generating big enough volumes for example some Chinese manufacturer or is there such a high import duties for these kind of products that manufacturing is still profitable even though processes don't look very efficient?
what are you on about my guy? this factory is outputting maybe 5k+ sprockets a day on labour costs of at best $20usd per person in the factory, still loads of profit to be made there. Even locally the sprockets would retail for around 5usd so figure maybe 50c wholesale, that's like 2500usd turnover per day for this small factory. Don't think they would make them much cheaper in China either, china's labour costs are now comparatively high compared to other 3rd world countries
Stamping old steel plates into a functional machine part.... They make good profit as people earn low single digit dollar amount and when you sell these in Pakistan/India you still get single dollars per piece sooo. Works
@@kitramshaw5447 No kidding, scrap metal costs little they spend nothing on safety conditions, heating or air conditioning except the electricity to run the lights and equipment and slave labor wages one buck or two per hour and equipment that's been paid for decades ago.
Ship steel? Its hell I know but seeing what and how the Bangladeshis strip big ocean going ships for everything and how some of it goes to factories like this. Excellent recycling.
It is interesting work, definitely safety is not one of their priorities, lots of broken rules when it comes to operate heavy machinery where you could loose a limb. I am not sure if parts are being manufactured to specs, due to I did not see point of inspections or measuring tooling in the operations to ensure parts are meeting specs. If you look at the volume of parts being worked you could easily end up with a lot scrap without inspection (cutting the teeth is one example) Lots of work in-process $$$$$, this place meets all the conditions to implement Lean concepts... I must say though, these are very dedicated and hard working individuals..
HA HA! That Lathe Operator wearing his best Jack Daniel's T Shirt for his 30 seconds of Fame on the video. I seen a million these in the USA. Have one myself.
There *are* guides. If the holes are say, reamed - or the drill bit is fresh due to careful sharpening and regular changing - and the fixture has a carefully ground pin of hardened steel, dimensions can be held closely indeed. I managed ~ .003 over 60 inches that way, with - I think - five holes. 1987, Sunkist growers.
Кому она нужна производительность? Если вместо 10 человек будет работать один то где оставшиеся 9 будут работать ? На какие шиши они будут покупать теже самые мотоциклы с этими звездочками?
I like seeing these old American machines being used, especially ones from my home state of Illinois. Those Cincinnati’s run forever. 🇺🇸

Nice video clip, keep it up, thank you for sharing it :)
I want to say the channel is based out of Pakistan. Very impressive work. Keep it up!
Гудит, как улей, родной завод!
Выглядит более прилично, кстати. Стены покрашены.

I would question the steel type and quality of the sprocket, a chain can be eaten away by it
