  • In this video, I discuss the frequently asked questions about United States Clinical Experiences. What's the difference between an elective and an observership? When to apply for clinical electives? How and when to apply? The requirements and how many months you'll need.
    These places might not offer electives any more, do your research! (This list is from 2020)
    Without USMLE Step 1 Score - UAB, Mt. Sinai, FIU, Harvard, Weill-Cornell, NIH, FIU, Stanford
    With Step 1 Score - Cleveland Clinic, LSU, Thomas Jefferson, Umass, UNC, Emory, Mayo Clinic.
    If you're interested in finding if a particular university offers positions - google search "Visiting International Medical Student Electives "___Insert College Name___"
    Dr. Rohit Nathani wrote a great article on this topic, do give it a read- theindianmedicalstudent.com/c...

      In an elective you rotate with 3/4 doctors. 1 every week or 1 every two weeks. So potentially you can get 3 or more lors from one month of elective, but I won't count on that. Do at least 2 electives to be competitive.

  • @denem4173
    @denem4173 3 года назад

    Thanks for the video. There is one question I cant seem to find the answer and would really appreciate the help.
    I am a 4th year student(total is 6 years), have no USCE before, and havent taken the step 1 yet(will probably take it after pass/fail).
    Our academic calendar has 1 month of elective in our final year. Is that the only time I can do an elective in US? Or how can I do lets say 2 months of electives? (So basically what I wonder is, when we say "the electives", are we referring what our school lets us, or it has nothing to do with the scool I study in). If 1 month is the only option I have and it is not good enough, I will maybe consider freezing my school for 2 months in final year and do elective in US. Although, I am not sure if graduating 2 months later will look bad in matching process. (You say you did 3 before your internship, and 1 after it. Does that mean you got graduated 4 months later than your normal calendar?)
    Thanks for any answer!
