Hi I’m a medical student from Taiwan! So glad I found your channel! I plan on binge watching your videos after my exams. Can I ask for tips to apply to the NIH clinical elective? Because I heard that it is extremely competitive to get in, especially for foreign students. Thank you so much!
Could you help me with this? I'm pretty confused with the Cornell clekship. I want to apply for May 2023. Does this message means that the courses are going to be available for me in April 2023, and consequently just by then I'm going to be able to apply? The course catalog does not show dates for the months I am looking to apply- how should I request the correct dates on my application form? - When viewing the catalog, be sure to choose the appropriate year from the drop-down menu. - There are dates up to May 2023 in the course catalog currently. The course catalog is updated in April for the following academic year (2022 - 2023), however students should still apply 6 months in advance of their earliest requested elective dates. - On your application, use the current catalog’s date ranges and elective options offered. If necessary, we will ask you to update this form once the new catalog has been released. - Note: Elective dates generally shift 1-2 days from the previous year. Therefore, you should be flexible by a minimum of 1-2 days at the beginning and the end of the elective dates listed in the current catalog. There is also an orientation that is scheduled on the Thursday prior to the start of your elective.
Hello! Firstly, thanks for the great content! Second, may i ask about the USCE in NIH, because recently i saw something in their website saying that they are not focused in giving LORs. So, can i ask if you got one LOR in your NIH rotation?
Yes, I got LoR. 2 of my other friends got LoR too. I would say the experience at NIH is way more and no hospital would want the primary goal of rotation to get LoR.
Hello Dr. Akshee. Thank you so much for the video. Its brilliant. However, where can I get more informations about those specially mentioned universities at the end of your video? I may have a contact in one of those unis but I never heard of such opportunities. Could I really get my contact sponsor me and apply for the elective? I would be grateful if you could share more about it or give me some leads on how do get such informations. Thank you so much and good luck.

Thank you for the video. But recently Mount Sinai told me that they rarely accept any international students now as there are a backlog of domestic students in their waiting list. Hello mam, i heard most programs are closed to visiting students for the rest of the academic year to do electives / rotations. Meanwhile, i will be graduating here in india. The only option i will be left with is externships. Will it look good on my cv? Plz reply. I planned to do electives but duw to covid 19, everything has changed now.
It's an unforeseen situation, the program directors will understand and other students will also be in the same boat. You should do your best according to current situation. Externship will provide clinical experience as well and will also help you make contacts. You can also apply for observership when time is right at places where IMGs are accepted. I wish you all the best😊

Hi Dr, do you think after 2022 some schools will cancel their elective policies about requiring step 1 score? 😶Because step 1 will change into a pass/fail system in 2022, I am not sure if it will affect their elective policies or not??🤔

Things have changed due to COVID, I haven’t heard of any university starting the elective program but if you are interested in any specific place, I would strongly suggest you to contact the student coordinator for details about that particular place. It seems as if there are still uncertainties though.

Yes!
