Living With a Supra Is Not What I Thought - 2021 Toyota Supra Livability Review

- Last week I took the Supra for a fun drive around the canyons to find out what the performance of this thing is all about. This week, after having lived with the car through your normal day to day activities, I'm going to share what is right and wrong about this car from a practical standpoint.

"I'm ONLY 6'1"" lol
lol yeah, more like a lot of people ARENT 6’1 😅😂
Bout 6 to 8 inches of neck
🤔
It’s nice to hear from taller than average reviewers. I’m 6’3” and so many great cars are miserable to drive because they’re built for the 5’6”-5’10” person without much room outside of that range.
He funny, 6.1" lol
There are so many RUclips channels that do reviews of cars on winding roads etc. We need more channels that focus on the everyday usability of a car, maintenance, or long term reliability. I hope you choose to focus on this type of content.
Thank you! That's what I'm going for.
Imagine saying that the Cayman and Cayman S can be had for $50-60K.
They could be before used car prices jumped over 30%.
@@ianstallings What? Not the base model, it was 50k before the stupid lockdown...
Your headrest is at an uncomfortable angle and there's too little headroom for the same reason: you need to recline your seat more. It's a sports car, not a dining room chair.
This isnt the case in any other sports car. My Cayman, for example works perfectly. The Supra is a poor design. I shouldn't have to recline my seat and sit gangster style just to fit in a sports car. I'm not that tall.
You are spot on. Looks like a little kid being told to set up. I find the seat much more comfortable than my GT 350. And while you are comparing them, 12 to 15 mpg in the GT 350 vs 24 mpg combined in the supra. As far as head room, I'm long wasted, 6ft, and can wear my Fedora. I find your review very biased. What happened, did a Supra beat your Porsche in a race....geezz
I agree that other cars can better accommodate that seating position, but that position is suboptimal. If you still have access to the Supra, I sincerely recommend you try reclining the seat. It might take some getting used to, but doing so will improve sight lines and lower centre of gravity. I've never owned a Cayman, but I expect the improvement would be real there, too. And I wouldn't describe the position as gangster style. Neither Chuck Yeager nor Lewis Hamilton were/are gangsters, and both their seats reclined much further than is possible in the Supra.
@@EatSleepDrive so youre refusing to make the seat comfortable because "i dont do that in my porsche"? You realize thats a dumb reason, right? Its a different car. Ofc the seating position needs to be changed lol. You cant say "this car cant fit tall people" when the issue isnt really the cars seats and its actually just because you refuse to move the seatback because "i shouldnt have to." lmfao. Biased ass review
@@EatSleepDrive 6 foot 1 is tall! im 6ft myself. if you wear a helmet you would install bucket seats which will sit on the floor giving you the extra head space.
Im 6'1 250lbs, i track the Supra wearing a helmet and have had NO issues with headroom/clearance issues.
Bro has that seat cranked up 😭
height doesn't matter as much as proportions. a 5'10 person with a long torso will have no headroom. a 6'1 person with a proportionally smaller torso will be comfortable.
I don’t get what he means by it’s missing the excitement while driving it normaly??? Like bruh.. any car is going to feel normal if you’re driving it normal.
@@FoosFoodReviews i have a gr supra and i can kinda understand what he means. the car wants you to keep going but you can't due to speed limits, so it kind of puts a damper on the excitement. some cars are exciting even when driving "slow". what ppl refer to as "momentum cars", where you wind them out and take turns at ridiculous speeds. also there's more to sensation of speed than just HP/TQ. for example, when 2017 M2 and M240i were compared, their 0-60 is within 0.3 s and only 30 hp difference (basically negligible difference), but the M2 feels faster due to the extra exhaust sound and less sound deadening.
@@FoosFoodReviews however, i don't agree at all that it "feels like a normal car/Camry". I can always tell I'm in a highly capable sports car. I think maybe OP meant more like, the supra doesn't have the raw edge or character that makes other cars distinctive and special feeling. like mustang 5.0 or 911 S/turbo/GT, or LC500. or on the extreme end, elise or 124 spider. each of those cars are very distinctive and has something that gives it a unique character. in comparison, the supra is more on a middle ground as a slightly Toyota-fied BMW.
I enjoyed the video but I disagree with a lot of your points. I’m 6.2 and fit well in the seats, I find it engaging around town (put it in sport) and the wind buffeting can be fixed for $10
@@brianm5753 are you referring to the car or the $10 wind buffeting add on?
samme, i disagree with alot of his points because they are fixable. The wind buffeting is easy fix, and the car may seem boring to him because its stock. Add a couple more thousand into the supra and it will def be the best car in its class.
I'm 6'2 and I find my Supra quite comfy. It definitely was a step up from my previous car which was a Porsche Cayman S 987.1. In my opinion, the Supra's seat takes forever finding the perfect seating position.
Also, just keep it in sport mode, it's never boring then haha
So I’m confused is this car now automatic? With paddle shifters?
I don't think this reviewer was aware of the sport mode lol
I’m 6’2 190 got perfect man he’s just awkward and stiff lol
You know what would be a fair comparison; give the Porsche the exact evaluation parameters and then make your final thoughts.
I have owned both and reached my own conclusions that these are sports cars. Not really made for that special comfort like an SUV OR a Sedan for that matter.
When I am in the mood for comfort or need to transport more people or do my monthly groceries purchases, I just take my Mercedes GLC 43 AMG.
@@savagegrouch6957 yes but 2023 comes with a manual
I REALLY appreciate that you do the ground clearance test. This needs to be a standard part of a review
6'1 people complaining about a 2 seater roadster... not a real complaint. Majority of humans are 5'3-5'10, obviously Toyota is gonna cater to the majority. There's plenty of bigger coupes out there, like the M2. Scraping? Most of the people in the Supra community slam their cars and deal with it on a daily basis. Wind buffeting easy fix with side mirror mod. This car's main selling point is the tuning capability, the whole point of a Supra. That B58 engine + RWD is what the real car guys are after, wasn't designed to be the best daily driver. How can you complain about daily driving comfort when it has an automatic transmission... Get a Porsche, Corvette, or a German car since the Supra people are happier with less of them on the street. Supra was literally revived for the hardcore Supra fans that wanted a new generation one. Only one real thing we cared about, the 3.0L straight six boosted engine with massive tuning potential on the stock engine block/internals with one of the best sounds from a car. We got that with the B58 engine. I think majority of us are pretty happy with it because we don't see the Supra at face value, we see what it can do after putting some money into it.
Tall people can fit in the mark 4 Supra so it is a real complaint if you can't fit in the Mark 5. It's not really even a complaint it's a fact.
Nice work with comparing to other cars in its price category. Would be nice to go a little more in depth with what each car really excels at and what you would pick if it’s your money
Stopped watching as soon as he said "not exciting to drive"
Alot of the cons arent too bad though especially the wind buffeting and how you say the car is a bit boring to drive. Buffeting can be fixed easily and the car just needs exhaust, downpipe, and intake to really wake up the car. Tune is a plus also, with all the mods and aftermarket the supra has, its def wayy better than most of the cars in its class. But to each of their own taste i guess.
“I’m only 6,1 and there’s people taller than me” bruhhhh
Yeah they’re all in the NBA 😂
I have to point this out - after watching, I dunno, dozens of Supra driving reviews - this is literally the only one that describes the driving experience as lackluster. I appreciate the reviewer is indicating this is only the case from a "daily drive" standpoint, but I think he might be conflating the environment /conditions in which he is driving, and the driving characteristics of the car.
What car provokes excitement when commuting to the grocery store? I don't think there is one, and it's not the fault of the car, its because you're driving to the grocery store.
Put a Lamborghini murcielago on a suburban street in route to a grocery store and the driving experience nearly becomes painful. Is that a critique of the car?
Yes, I appreciate the supra is designed to blend the best of both worlds (daily + sport). But how much excitement are you looking for in daily drives, and how much is even possible?
I've seen another it in another, in particular compared to a Miata. A Miata is a blast just driving pretty much anywhere because the limit is intentionally low, you can hoon it and not even be speeding. More fun driving a slow car fast than a fast car slow.
Good to hear another point of view about daily driving the Supra. I personally enjoy the Supra for being boring when you need it to do regular life stuff. I wanted a car that can be somewhat comfortable being daily driven and something that can wake up when needed. I love how it's relatively quite cruising the city and highways. Then it turns into a completely different car when you get on it, especially in sport mode.
Good review!. Although if you lean back the seat back a little bit the head rest angle isn't a big issue... at least in the video it looks like you sit pretty upright..
I think livability while it's new is skewed, once it's got some mileage on it how reliable will it be & also no doubt most will get some mods so how will it hold up is more relevant for most people, where I am a BM can be twice the price of Corolla new & half the price of the same Corolla once it gets on a bit due to reliability & cost of maintenance
I’m 5’5 and I fit perfectly lol. I’m loving my 2022 GR Supra, it’s a dream car to be driving.
So what car gives u that experience? For daily driving
This is a nice car, I definitely wouldn't mind owning one.
I'm glad toyota made it. There's a lot of hate because of the whole bmw thing but I'm just happy there is another sports car offering from Toyota
Actually i like how the headrest is angled. I can actually use the headrest when i lay back.
Although there r some goods and cons of the supra, we can say its the fastest among al of them
Is there a reason to choose this car over a camaro ss 1le? I m looking for a road coarse warrior with future force induction capabilities.
The handling alone is enough to warrant buying this over the SS. Not to mention the power to weight, and the amount of power you can get from a few cheap mods and a tune
When you factor in what these cars are going for relative to their msrp vs the C8 and Cayman, the Supra comes in significantly cheaper especially when similarly equiped eg 2LT, pdk transmission, etc. 3.0 Premiums can regularly be had for 5k under msrp. Camaro ss and Mustang GT are more in line in terms of pricing imo
How the heck you get one 5k under?
@@razokevX time travel to 2020
@@rulesyafaceTime travel to the chip shortage?
I agree about your statement pairing this to various Porsches. You're not going to get a Cayman or a boxster for the same price Unless you get a 10-year-old one. I have to disagree about getting them for $5,000 under MSRP. These things depreciate slower than molasses since they came out. Especially the 3.0 premiums. The 2021s are still going for over $50, 000 in 2024 as long as they don't have extremely high miles. Even the 2.0s depreciate pretty slow as I just priced the 2023 and it's only $1,500 less than new
@@warlok9 3 years ago when I posted that, you could get new 3.0 Supras for well under MSRP. I have the correspondence with dealers to prove it.
But yes, you're right, that hasn't been the case for years now.
this is just a hate on supra video. My buddy has one and has none of these complaints except the window buffeting issue which is easily fixed with a 5 dollar part on amazon. Car is truly amazing to drive.
What kind of device stops the wind buffeting??
Totally agree
Exactly. Just whining about everything. This is the only poor review on YT
None of those cars are in the supra space. You're naming cars with "base prices" in the mid 60s, but we all know they are $75k+ with the options you want.
I was waiting for your videos
This may be a weird comparison but would you rather have a Miata RF or Supra to be your canyon carver/second car you could daily? Also let's assume that the Supra is equipped with a 6MT and you around 5 foot 7 as well if that changes your opinion.
I own an ND2 RF and I’m thinking about getting a Supra. The RF is always a blast to drive and it gets tons of compliments over my friends with Supras. However, the only thing I feel the Supra has over an ND2 (in terms of fun) is the speed. The short throws, RF top, lightweight playability of the ND2 is pure joy, but when almost any other sports car pulls up and you have to back down from a roll/dig it makes you think if only I had the Supra…
Thanks for the insight that drives like a normal non-sports car in the city at 5:25. That was exactly what I was wondering bcuz I drive mostly in city.
For the same money roughly, a Supra or a base 2.0.718 Cayman (manual) ?
718
At 8:19 are you starting to compare it to a Corolla?
Really good video. I wish you would have spoken about reliability. That would be the reason i would choose the supra
Hey bro great video. I have two questions:
1. Which is faster is a straight line? Supra or your M2?
2. Which one is more "fun" sports car? Supra or M2?
I don't own the M2, I own the GT4 in the video. That said, I've driven an M2 comp and their speed is virtually identical in a straight line. The M2 is more fun to drive in my opinion.
The headrest isn't actually a headrest. That angle is designed to prevent you from getting whiplash.
Agree but it sucks. Another case of the government going overboard on regulations for safety's sake.
If you are this tall and can buy the car then upgrade the seats to the most skinny/lowest aftermarket race seats and you'll be good
The wind buffeting is nothing more than poor interior aerodynamics. Since the air can't flow around the interior of the car smoothly, it crashes into each other and creates that noise. Almost every car has it once you get to a certain speed with the windows open.
Its just not that big a deal either. Unless my ac breaks I'm not driving with windows down at highway speeds.
Speed wise how does it compare to the Gt4? Great content as usual.
Thank you! It's faster than the gt4 in a straight line. They're really underrating this b58 engine. It has SO MUCH TORQUE
@@EatSleepDrive awesome! Do you prefer the Gt4 even tho it’s not as quick?
I like the Supra but wish it had a manual. The turbo Inline 6 would get me in trouble as well .....waiting for a 2022 BRZ/ 86
...Inline 6
The first time the headrest was mentioned....
The windbuffeting and headrest can be fixed....
Interesting..... lt should stay in sport mode when the car is swithed off and on...
Needs a bit more development....
The new Gen Supra built for short people like myself lol 😂
As someone who's 5'8 i see this as a win. I sat in one and fit with more than enough room
Really considered getting one but hard to see myself giving up my trunk space and back seats coming from a 17 WRX. Maybe in future I'll own both
I just got rid of my 2020 wrx sti for a 2022 Supra 3.0 I hope it’s an upgrade my only concern I am 5.10 I hope I can fit in it I pre purchased it so I am crossing fingers and if not I can resale the car for a good price
where can i get a cayman s for 50k. cheapest one near me is a 2017 with 73k miles and its selling for $68,000!
I am 6.4 and no Problem whit sith
Also Helmet no problem
im 6’3 and drive pretty comfortably unless for 1hr+
Do you know the history of your GT4?
Yep. Thinking about making a video about it
Decent overall review but kinda fell apart at the ending thoughts/summary with a big lack of details
Pretty negative review , I love mine but entry takes getting used to
At 60, I found this true, at first, but its not even a effort now.
Did this guy compare a Cayman S at starting 72k to a 50k car?? Even the base Cayman is 59.9k.
Ground clearance is .2 inches taller on the Supra than the Cayman.
I dunno about 2019 and up 917s but on the 718 forums there are lots complaining about wind buffeting on their 718s.
Pretty biased...
Very astute review!
Thank you kindly!
1:50: I’m uncomfortable just watching this from my living room.
Haha. Yup. It's that bad
I want to chop off my head rest in this Supra, the worst car seat I’ve ever had… and I can’t stretch my legs out… but I still love the car.😩😂😂
The first rule of sport car living, park away from everyone else 😆
That being said that car you prefer that's better under 40k?
Around 40k... GT350
Another supra mk5 hater. I wonder how many of you actually own one or have driven a modified one.
If you are really into Toyotas, you hate it. If you are coming from BMWs or other brands, you love it. It's as simple as that.
Good review for people who are 6’1”
I don't think you can compare the Porsche or C8 to supra, those aren't mid 50k cars. Never noticed the headrest till you pointed it out.
Im 6’2 190 and I fit perfectly and comfortable
Being a Supra with a BMW engine is a good thing or a bad thing?
i'm 6'4 and i fit in them pretty well
it seems like you just advocated for the 2.0. I can't afford to speed all day & night & get tickets bc i want to wake up the engine. Maybe the 2.0 is better for daily driving.
It's a bad design with the Supra seat. I'm 5' 8" and its uncomfortable. 🤔 HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I like the design of the supra and wanted go buy one but realizing that this car is just not made for tall or big people I had to pass. No manual either? Smh
nothing wrong with automatic ..
@@ACommenterOnRUclips I didn't say there was but not having the option is a problem. I personally don't care about being faster in an auto, I'd rather have 3 pedals in my sports car. I'm sure other would agree.
@@optimusprime6436 I agree, sometimes having that 3rd pedal is nice. My nissan is a 5 speed but my Supra and my Genesis are both Automatic. Both have their good and bad.
Yes in my nissan when i have my hand on the stick, i don't know why or how but i feel like i have all the power in the world and more control over the engine BUT at the same time that shifting does get OLD ...
The genesis has sport shift which KINDA like a manual but close enough that i still have control over each gear. The Supra also has MANU mode which allows me full control over 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. And they are large gears so i don't have to shift as much.
So both are good but when it comes down to it i would rather have the auto because most of my driving is just sit back and enjoy the ride, i don't abuse my cars, i drive them to enjoy them the next day. Not drive them like an idiot and risk and accident
Wind buffeting has been cured. A simple application. Toyota has a new maching, the squisher. It will reduce your height to 5'4" which is now my height. I'm getting the 2023 after trying out a 2022. I'm ugly, so all the pretty girls are looking at me and realize that if I drive a car like this, there must be something special about me other than my looks. Of course, I wear sunglasses and a hat. This is a fun vehicle to drive and the 12 speaker system is wonderful. Not all about loudness but sound quality. I'm in my 70's an this makes me feel younger, and put a pretty girl in the passenger seat and I'm in diapers!
Daily driven Supra last 3 months, hmm let’s watch this one

Thanks for this video. My friend is 6ft 6, so this Toyota Supra is way too small. Hopefully the Nissan 400Z will have a far better interior design.
I like how you compared it to other coupes on the market like the BMW M2 and Porsche Cayman. The Supra is just one of those $40,000+ look at me cars like the Jaguar F-Type, Audi TTRS, and original Nissan GT-R
Has it been said already this car was made for Japanese people whose average height is shorter 🤔. The camry is considered a big car there and a small car here.

It definitely isnt what you were hoping for.
Ya because nobody looks at the damn thing.
Ive been to many cars meets so far this summer and some track events. Nobody cares for the MK5 supra compared to the OG MK4. Nobody gives it attention.

Ugh, the styling is a mess. Awful awkward angles muck up what could/should have been a home run for Toyota given the legacy Supra's popularity.
Not a fan, especially with no manual transmission.
A hard no from me.
i think this is still the beggining of the Supra , i believe there will be more exciting versions in the future. You can also dump money into it and modify it
