    I have 10 years on my odyssey battery in my custom turbo 1985 VW GTI. One of the best investments I have made in that project. Top of the line quality and lives up to its specs. When this one gives up it will be replaced with the same, can't beat 175'bucks for a no leak no corrosion metal cased AGM. Thank you odyssey

      And far more compact than a traditional battery too for better fitment in tight spaces.

  • @aristein88
    @aristein88 8 лет назад +2

    I like that these batteries can sit for up to 2 years charged up, without losing their charge. That is a really nice feature if you have a vehicle that sits for a few months a year without being used. About 5 years ago, when I bought an odyssey dry cell, I tested this out. I had a car that sit (battery hooked up in the car) for 3 months and I got in and fired it right up. I only drive that car about 5-6 times a year, and I never had to charge it. And, 5 years later, it is still going strong.
    Technically, you should still use a battery minder to get the best longevity out of the battery. But you don't have to and you can still get many years out of this one.

Then again odyssey doesn't even offer a battery for my diesel, so maybe that's why I'm bias......

      I have XS power batts in my car for my huge audio system and there awesome. I never get voltage drop even with 300amp draw and I have a alternator that cuts off till it hits a curtain voltage and I can tell by my voltage meter on the car it hardly ever kicks on if I keep my battery’s in the trunk topped off.

    • @extremedrivr
      @extremedrivr 4 года назад

      @@tammyforbes2101 Well.. I first went with XS Power but after 2 died after 1 year each time in my daily driver I switched to Odessey.
      I think Odessey are more reliable than XS Power based on my experience.
      But obviously as this video proves, AGM is the way to go. Period!! Glad you use AGM for your ride.

    i might go with a lithium battery on my new golf r.

    • @averyalexander2303
      @averyalexander2303 2 года назад

      The battery itself will not produce 15 volts, it may charge up to around 13.2 volts at the most. Of course when the engine is running you could see 14+ volts from the alternator, but that has nothing to do with the battery.

    • @davidpowell3347

      Gary Olafson battery disconnect is what he said. And yea of course he cut him off. But it's better to periodically charge a battery. It's like a smartphone or whatever. If you leave it on the charger for a full month (exagerated) never unplugging it, you're going to kill your battery. But if you charge it here and there it will last longer and give you the same performance or as close as possible throughout the years

    AGM batteries are great. I bought a Sprinter deep cycle AGM for my truck with 1130 CCA way more than anything you can buy at an auto supply store. If the lights get left on, no harm to the deep cycle battery (above a 50% discharge, I think), just charge it back up, good as new. Harley sells nothing but AGM batteries because vibration doesn't decrease battery life.

    Very interesting. What i need to know is if i bought one of these batteries what is the chance of getting a dead cell between switching off the car, walking into the shop and then coming out 20 mins later to a dead car? As jay mentioned the example in the chat above.

      Something like that could happen with a perfect battery and a bad starter, or wires between the 2, or loose battery terminals, or corrosion. Check your gauges, check things under the hood, try not to leave anything on when you park the car, listen for slow cranking or other signs that something could be wrong.
      You could spend hundreds extra bullet proofing against one problem like this and have numerous random other things go wrong leaving you stuck. If you're truly worried about getting stuck, spend the money on AAA, a cell phone and save the rest for the inevitable replacement parts and labor.
      Join an online forum where people own the same car you have. You'll learn a lot about your car and get a heads up on things that probably will go wrong in the future. In addition to that, google search any problem or symptoms and you'll usually find someone that has been through it and solved it. Even if you don't end up fixing it yourself, you might save money on diagnosis, not buying the wrong parts, or not getting ripped off by a bad/unethical mechanic.

    I am confused? If I was to mount this battery in my 1997 Dodge Caravan, and I drive maybe 15 days in a month and only short trips. Would I mess up the battery? A car's charging system can not do all this conditioning like those chargers you show.

      +tomiadorjan it can if the voltage regulator fails. Seen that happen before, particularly with stock alternators and heavy current draws (like sound systems). Seen batteries explode in cars before because people don't pay attention to the voltmeter in their cars.

      Not worth the cost? You replace them a third as often they're twice as expensive, WAY more power density, safer, etc. How can you say they aren't worth the cost?

    I have batteries from the nineties that still work as good as new. This is because of a technology that I discovered along time ago.
    The batteries that use this technology become more efficient and hold a greater capacity. Around A 10 percent gain of capacity is the norm for the average battery.

    This would be really useful in old VW Type I thru 4. I have owned five or six, all used, all had corrosion issues under the battery. Many were rusted through, and these were California cars.

    Does the company make a motorcycle battery that will work with my 99 Yamaha 1100cc Virago? I'd love to get rid of that drip tube on the wet cell Yuasa I'm using now.

    I suspect that the current draw of some modern cars while parked with the ignition switch turned off and the key removed is surprisingly high and contributing to battery chronic low state of charge if the car is only driven,say,once per week for less than an hour.

    Would these types of batteries hold up in an Alaskan winter? Not that I live in Alaska, but here in MI it can get down to -15F sometimes.

    8:30 75 watt/hr at 14.7 volts is still 75 watt/hr at 110 volts. 75 watt hours is the amount of power the charger uses assuming no loss in the charger its self. AC side would show / be using more than 75 watt hours practically.

      75W at 14.7V is 5.1 Amps. 75W at 110V is .68 Amps. I think that's the point he was trying to make.

    I have a question that others have voiced. What about the charging system in my 1963 Dodge Dart? Or for that matter my '96 daily Harley rider? 15 volts was mentioned as a bad thing. My Harley voltmeter occasionally will go there.

    Lets look at cost. I agree that they are better batteries but there is the bottom line of cost. My four 105 a/h batteries were $120 each(on sale, reg $150), charger was $160, (total cost $640 +tax), five years ago and still working well. Today they are about $140 each. The only thing done is occasional distilled water top up's. When I go to replace them (maybe in two or three years) , I would expect to pay no more than $250 ea..
    Assuming the batteries last 6 to 7 years (again, mine are already 5 years old) I have only spent less than $800, including charger.
    Since these Odyssey batteries are better What is the average price for four 105 amp,hour deep cycle batteries and charger?
    BTW, The batteries and charger were bought in Toronto, Canada.

    If you need a special charger for those batteries, why does the car's charging circuit not damage the battery?

    • @davidpowell3347
      @davidpowell3347 8 месяцев назад

      It has been claimed that the car will allow the battery to gradually over a period of months become less than fully charged even if the car is driven frequently.
