I wish my neighbour had one of those and left for work in it five minutes before had to get up every day. Wouldn't this just be the best alarm clock ever.
I also meant to say that this is one of the most ridiculous useless fantastic things I've ever seen on Jay show.
Omg what
Symon I agree and not just on Jays show, but anywhere really. This truck is so wacky, wild, and just cool looking.
Jay kept making Pot references, forget Pot, you'd have to be on Acid to come up with something this insane.
They were huffing glue.
I love the interior in this truck, just perfect for the theme
I’m 76 Yrs old and that’s the darnest thing I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen Manny radials as farming we had a lot of crop dusters to dust and spray our crops here in South Texas, thanks again for another wonderful video.
I bet Jay is planning to build one with a B29 engine in it.
Tao I think this calls for a Curtis-Wright R3350 18cyl, like this one: ruclips.net/video/EsdwLtaENmM/видео.html
Aren't the b29 engines huge though XD
@Furio I just checked...the B-29 engine had 18 cylinders (two 9-cylinder engines fastened together) and produced 2,200 horsepower, although "it had an unfortunate tendency to catch fire."
@@ChrisMarrou that is indeed "rather large"
I believe that is potentially one avenue of the many possibilities, swirling around in Jay's forebrain~
( BTW- glad to see yet another industry brother, brother )
Love how the aircraft theme continues in that back with the aircraft-like frame for the trunk. Excellent work
Damn where are the wings !?
I loved how that made the frame like that as well
Awesome truck, I've been in his wrecking yard a few times when I lived in Colorado. Nice yard.
Am I the only one who knew what a v-drive was because of Stubby Bob?
Haha. Same here
That was the first thing that came to mind when I heard V-drive
I knew about v drive from a very old monster garage The Ambulance Wheelie episode.
Yup. They stole if from that poor dudes daily driver wheeley van.
Same to lol.
This thing is absolutely amazing. Truly impressive craftsmanship
Jacobs aircraft company was in Pottstown Pa. a stones throw from Bethlehem Steel in Pottstown many of the residents here may have built that engine.
and the brewery is?
And my Dad included. Right after the war he taught flying in a Stearman P-17 at Pottstown municipal Airport, ofcourse with a 225 HP Jacobs radial engine.
@@hulado Yeungling oldest brewery in America.
I was so excited to see this thing was going to be on the show! I saw it in person at the Rocky Mountain Street Rod Nationals. What a fantastic creation!
Just found this episode. Thank you for spending a little time on the Clark Tug. Many years ago I spent an evening trying to get a Clark to do donuts in soiled hay. It was tough. Never really got the rear to break loose but I did start a little fire. Good times. Oh the truck is pretty neat too. The V-Drive was a clever idea.
This is too cool! The interior and all the details are stunning!
Jay I love this channel I love everything from the cars and trucks that are stock to the customs like this. But this one gave me an idea I think you should start giving these guys the Jay Leno Award of Excellence. Not only for the customs, but also for the Restorations. A nice little trophy from you to them. Just an idea. Jim.
Fantastic project. Great execution. Friend of mine, Ed Moser, built circa 84 a street legal Indy Car. March body, handbuilt frame powered by 2 1000cc Kawasaki motorcycle motors. Chain drive with jackshaft. His follow up project was 32 Ford High Boy with carbon fiber frame with helicopter engine. Car now is in Lincoln Nebraska (or was in 2005) at Speedway Motors I believe it is. Huge mail order. Lost touch with Ed. Miss that guy.
In 30 years somebody will find this thing in the back of a barn.
I just love that little tug, how the heck was that thing as small as it was and weighing 3000 pounds, plus hauling stuff around on a 112CI flat-head four!?
I suppose if that beautiful radial has to be confined forever to the ground, she is in a nice place. The sound of a radial popping to life is really something you have to experience in person.
Needs to put a small prop back on it to solve cooling issues.
I thought of that also but the bracing they have in there plus the belt drive are in the way I think. But would would add a cool sound when it was running too!
Yea but there was enough space in there to reengineer the belt drive and make it work
Maybe a custom blower pulley with a club prop? A bit like alternator fans?
Watercool it 😂
They could probably fit a small steel bladed car fan on from say a 80's chevy and help cool it a "tiny" bit.
THERE STILL ARE GREAT PEOPLE WITH ENERGY AND INGENUITY DOING GREAT AND UNIQUE THINGS.
That truck is just insane, and I love it. Gary Corns is truly nuts, and we need more crazy people like that in the world!
Does anyone know what that blue Benz thing was in the background? I've never seen anything quite like that.
The blue Benz is a race car hauler. He did a show on it not that long ago if you dig thru the videos.
Mark Zeis Thanks!
You never know what you will see on Jay' s garage. But one thing you do know. It will be awesome.
Awesome!!! I've followed this build a long time. I love it! It was funny how jay was confused about the V-drive, I feel like an expert after watching stubby bob Hahah. Also I totally jumped when that thing fired! Can't imagine how that guy on the ground felt!!!
It took me a minute to understand that too. I like how they didn't edit it out. That's integrity.
I think the guy on the ground may want to check his pants!
WHAT???
I saw this truck at the Denver Mecum Auction in 2019. It is an amazing rig.
Jay asks: "is it 24 volt" no, it's two 12 batteries connected in series"................THAT'S 24 VOLTS!! LOL!
Wes Swanson : I suspect he merely misspoke and meant to say IN PARALLEL
I'm gonna fly to the store, need any thing?. Airplane engine in a truck.
When you turn on this truck, do you have to say " contact" ?.
no he should have said parallel
Not in a parallel universe. Sounds about right.
9:48 "it's 12v but it's just hooked in series" 😂
Super cool truck love the engine
Right, they are wired parallel for 12V.
Love the steam punk style!
Can't help but wonder why he put stunt smoke instead of an oil radiator with a fan in the front..
It's running bonneville, not groceries. Less is more in racin'!
I think you mean "Dieselpunk", or even "decopunk". those are both styles reminiscent of the 1920's-1950's. "steampunk" by contrast is from the 1800's
Or maybe "Airopunk"
Agreed, and a rad and fan is less weight than a bunch of extra oil.....
Jacobs was an American company that was renowned for its dependable aero engines in the 200 to 400 hp range and were used by many different countries. Canada alone used the 330hp L6 in over 4,400 Avro Anson training aircraft in WWII
I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation in this episode.
I now know how to strike that creative genius inside me.
The interior of that car should be in an art museum. So gorgeous.
Final Fantasy 7. Totally steampunk love it !!
Jay- "I see 2, batteries, is it 24v?"
Truck guy- "no, its 12v wired in series.."
Oops 🍺
Yeah I was like Wait, what did he sad? It make me confused, but he was nervous you can tell he is a Jay Leno fan so it's ok.
Glad I wasn't the only one that caught that
More of these type please! Just like your crazy jet bike.
My favorite episode ever! Ive always enjoyed that big channel Italian and having a Co. Boy with a recycle center on the east slope! We have one on the westernslope called recla metals. Is awesome
That was a brave guy that was spraying the starting fluid in that thing!
Brave but deaf at least from this point on. @earprotection
First you gotta remove the potato out of the tail pipe LoL 😮 had me laughing so hard
I don't mind ads, and I don't mind lag, but when the ad lags it's pretty irritating
www.GPcarAudio.com I got a (3 second) no -skip freaking advertisement!
install adblock already...
AND adblock plus.
You don´t mind ads or lags? Wtf is wrong with you?^^
www.GPcarAudio.com h r I don’t
I kept waiting for this question the whole video - "How fast does it go?"
Belt drive? (not too fast) It's a case of "All show, no go" . . . and "it ain't the chrome that gets you home."
He said it runs at Bonneville so I'm guessing it's pretty fast.
Terry H it goes all the speed! Lol
300hp motor prolly 275 after parasitic loss should've kept the old.straight 6 the blue flame would've been bout the same
I saw the Bonneville run it looked like maybe 40-45 mph full throttle. Obviously has a gearing flaw.
You got to have a great sense of humor as well as a great work ethic to pull something like that off
I know where a DC-7 has been sitting for around 30 years.Could make 4 cool car's.Double row , 18 cylinders! Between 2,200 to 3,700 hp depending on application.
Where? :)
+Plymouth Air Radial Truck goodyear az airport.
those engines are huge. they used those on b-29 bombers. they weight probably ~3500lb. not to mention the fuel consumption. ~150-200gal an hour. would need much much bigger vehicle to put it in. cooling would also be much more critical on those. double rows of cylinders plus the turbochargers.
probably more than 3500lb.
murpy eddie Build it on the oldest semi you can find...dreams!
Jay Leno sounds high or a little tipsy from drinking here 🥴
He definitely did something.
really awesome to see one of those Plymouth trucks I've only heard about 1 growing up my dad built it my dad talked and bragged about it for years my dad was a mechanic since World War II if he was still alive he be in the 90s he was one of the most engenius mechanics I ever seen I've seen him built things in the shop that should not be built or said they cannot build I wish you was around to see that old Plymouth was there a airplane motor in it
I think by the sound of Jay he’s been smoking some “J’s”
They just doubled the carbon footprint of Jay Leno's Garage.
And it takes them all weekend to clean the Salt out of all the nooks. Cool build
After the war infusing aircraft tech in hot rods was a big thing. lots of Merlin powered race cars and others in the late 40s and 50s. This guy took it to a whole new level. I love it! my second favorite hot rod. Randy Grubs Pissed off Pete is still number 1 but this is close. If it could run ore than 10 in without over heating I would choose it. To bad its not really something you can drive as I like my hot rods street worthy. but totally a cool build as no other engine in the world sound as good as a radial.
Hey Mr. Leno, next project idea: a drag strip or an old airport purchase; a place to showcase your guest's vehicles performance without the laws of the road 😁
I was standing by this vehicle during a show in Colorado when they started it. I took some pics but all you could see was smoke.
This guy got Leno lit.
Edit: that is some serious chop!
If a prop was somehow attached wouldn't that help with cooling.
Yes, in stationary engines for demonstration they use cut off props for cooling.
that would be beautiful having a big prop spinning around the engine bay!
Use a fan reminiscent of the BMW 801 radial. Maybe something electrically operated, too, to blow directly on the lower cylinders.
I like the prop idea. Nothing like having what was really meant to be on it.
Guess a prop could be installed somehow but it would have to clear the V-drive and the belt etc !
Freaking Awesome Piece of Art, thanks for Sharing Guys n God Bless All.
*LOL, did his sons just pour gas in the oil cooler?* *19:46*
I saw what you are talking about. It's the primer tank.
Do you need a pilots license to drive ??.
Can’t wait to see the next ride that shows up in your garage.
Hands on American know-how at it's finest! OK, it might have needed a little 'help' but then again, it IS Colorado so it's all legal and good... It's good to see the 'old skills' and ingenuity are still alive and well... These guys are the modern day equivalent of Smokey Yunick!
Look at all of that power!!
Damn, like that car design...
The priming part was cringe worthy for sure. What a cool truck. Someone can figure out a way to keep it cool I'm sure. I guess keep it moving 150mph is what it needs.
The priming part was no big deal,..that was starter fund he was shooting into the carb underneath to fire it up.
An old military and aviation staying Jay, "two is one and one is none"
It is a work of art!
I sure thought that was Jay's!😂 Mental with Metal!
I thought aircraft piston engines were run very rich on the ground to take the heat away from the engine and then leaned out once airborne. I could imagine an airplane being stuck on the taxiway / runway for up to and more than 15 minutes. Even though they were attached to a propeller approximately 80% of the air flow is at the ends of the propeller so the engine still has the same issue, can someone comment on this please I'd like to know if my thoughts are correct or not.
MrMaxeemum Hi, yes you are on the right track. The engines are run rich on the ground, and the pilot has to be careful not to foul the plugs, so idling is not ideal for any long period. There are also cowl flaps and oil cooler flaps that can be adjusted to help stabilise engine temps both on the ground and in flight.
A propeller blade moves air all along the shaft. The airfoil shape and angle of attack changes as does the speed of the blade through the air from hub to tip, but the whole thing develops thrust.
Buck n Willcox
PS - Thanks Jay, that was terrific. Waaay ahead of Steampunk...
New and rebuilt engines are ground tested on fixed stands and air-cooled by cut-down propellers known as "clubs".
When AWESOME is not overused :-)
Love the way the rear deck looks like an air foil off a plane
Thought that including a (shrouded) propeller of some type would keep with the spirit and aid in cooling. Unless the e-fan does the trick…Regardless, it is a true work or art. Encompassing everything I love!
5:35 - "That's very clever..... That's a lot of weed. You would need to smoke a lot of weed to come up with that." - Jay Leno
Prime 'er up, hit the switch, and the cylinders spin around the stationary crankshaft!
THIS IS AMAZING
At 23:58, Jay gets the idea for a new celebrity product. And just as Paul Newman sold salad dressing, along with other celebrity’s selling products, Jay thinks to himself, “Jay Leno’s Garage Starting Fluid. “Hahahaha, you heard it here first, Jay🤣
Bonus: Jay, seriously you could have photos of all your different vehicles on your product, not all at once, but at different times. Wow, I think that smoke really may have gotten to me🤣
The camera man has ice water in his veins because he did not jump too bad when the car lit off. Cool look and great design.
Airplane engine, excellent engineering
Ive seen that kind of engine in a motorcy le which is really cool looking.
Seen this at the KBPI car show few years ago. Absolutely amazing in person!
That thing is badass man
So you just sit in this thing and hear it run. That's it.
That was hardcore when it started with the exhaust by that guys head
Driving is a negotiation between both passengers.
Gorgeous
nice truck choice for project ...
What is the blue Mercedes in the background at 17.45? I would love to here about it. I love the tug.
Love it ..love it ..love it...💪♥️
23:36 how much hearing damage is that, he strolled off but I know his head was ringing
This is the car. I don't know why my comments do not stay here
Recycled cars are a godsend .when it absolutely has to run . How ever insurance companies are in kahoots with dealers . They won't pay you what it's actually worth .
I DID CATCH HIM SAY IT 2 12 VOLT BATTERIES IN SERIES, THAT 24 VOLTS, HE JUST MISSPOKE ITS PARALLEL THAT GIVES MORE AMPS, NOT MOVE VOLTS
Am I the only one that hated to see that can of either get sprayed into that engine? That stuff is to start worn out low compression engines on their last leg if you use it very much on a tight engine it will make them worn out with low compression. I love them old Radial engines they just got a sound of their own. He should of put a custom 18 or 20 inch prop on the front of the engine and then ran a shaft from it to his V drive. It would look cool and took care of his over heating.
Tell the truth Jay, when that fired you sh*t yourself ! 😁
I know the guy with the starting fluid did 😂
a blown allky Hemi would be sweeter and easier to start
Reminds me of one those old futuristic mashup weird movies lol haha 😂😂
Could u nitride the cylinders or the exhaust to dissipate the heat or maybe titanium alloys would solve your cooling issues?
Looks like it's going to fall apart into 6 giant pieces..
This has nothing to do with 420.
It's using your brain, and finding solutions.
Pot heads do not build trucks like this.
Why the slant?
Instead of just appreciating a hot rod?
This guy thought outside the box.
I respect that.
It matters.
In my opinion.
Jay didn't take his ritalin for this episode 😜
Cool looking! Maybe lacking a little something on driveability though. Haha
Next up: jay Leno at burning man.
This is why America is GREAT!😉😉🤪😃
A Pot Rod, Cool!!
I used to work on Jacob's aircraft engines for a living. Not sure why they are calling that 757 cubic inches. that is a Jacob's R755. 755 cid
there was a kind of a big fan assembly that I've seen on radial engines he could put one of those and they're probably be able to drive that thing a ways I've seen a couple of guys use those when they do the engine shows where they run them for a while on trailers
Still starts easier than an Alfa Romeo on a cold morning....

My Spica mechanical fuel injected two-liter all aluminum twin cam starts first try regardless of the weather.
haaa
But the Alfa heaters ALWAYS work.
I'm an aircraft and shady tree car mechanic. This mechanical fusion is like being with two girls at once. It's something I'll never pull off, but it's nice to know it happens.
Cocaine is a helluva drug.
Same. My first thought when I saw the fuel tank was "That's not the right placard!"
The girls at once is when the other girls guy goes off to work and you were sharing the bed with your girls roommate cause that was the only bed....even if nothing happened, you were sandwiched it until proven otherwise...
Yea you can,it's hard but there you go,only in free America

Blessed boys.
He means the people that work for him not his kids lol

RIP, the ear that was sacrificed to start this car
Lol he sure did jump outta there. Looked fuckin traumatizing.
He looked a bit rattled , now the tinnitus kicked in
Loud noise dosen't hurt the ears that fast...
I ran a ported chainsaw for years, it could actually rattle my eardrums around when I got in between root flair of a tree. It hurt, but I don't think I lost any hearing.
What has damaged my hearing is being hit physically on the side of the head.
What did you say? Can’t hear you
Yup he shot outta there like a missle!!!
