@@rockysutton2066 don’t get me wrong some of the coolest cars are from the 60’s but the cars from the 60’s are very slow compared to the cars of today. My grandfather bought one of these new in 1971, silver with black leather. He lived in the Italian Alps, and this car was amazing on mountain roads and the autostrada. Luckily, my grandfather and some of his friends were expert mechanics used to Italian cars, so maintaining it was easy. Seeing these cars in pictures or on tv doesn't do them justice. They are really gorgeous, not as gorgeous as the Miura perhaps, but truly unique. Unlike so many cars today, every ride was an adventure. The overpowering smell of leather when you opened the door, the artistic details, the incredible speed. But what stands out in my mind the most was the engine. It wasn't just loud (and it was LOUD) it was multi-layered mechanical music. It somehow sound beautiful and brutal at the same time.
I do agree the Miura has a better look than the espada, but both are different from one another. The espada was a grand tourer while the Miura became the premise for all modern supercars & hypercars.

It was nice to see what they can look like with the one here.

Many years ago i was behind one of these in Paris, the guy looked like a local and this was his daily driver obviously….what a thing to see on the road, great clouds of blue smoke when ever the traffic flow stopped.. … beautiful….
I'm leaving a comment, yet I have no words for how much I love the Espada. But Jay, it completely defeats the purpose of having a cut-off switch when you have to open the door, pull a lever, open the rear hatch, pull up the carpet, lift a mat and take off a panel JUST to turn it off or on! Not only that, but it's TWO INCHES FROM THE BATTERY!! At THAT point, you don't NEED a cut-off switch, YOU'RE THERE! You can just take the ground off! The switch should be mounted under the rear bumper or somewhere you can get to it from the outside. Jay, c'mon!
Jay is right, every car enthusiast should drive a V12 at least once. When I was a kid, my dad used to service an XJ-S that belonged to an elderly Englishman who had emigrated to South Africa. One day, after he spent about 300 hours replacing the spark plugs - not an easy job on the Jag V12 - we took it out for a drive and I remember being amazed at how a car could go so fast, so quietly. Another interesting thing with V12 engines is that they all seem to have very low geared starter motors so many of them emit this high pitched whirring sounds before they fire up. It truly is something exquisite and if you've never experienced it, make sure you do while you still have all your faculties in place.
It's so common to see people buying dream cars and destroying them in one way or another so for Jay Leno to put so much effort into all these cars is worthy of praise
Love the car and the video. But the whole time on the road, I kept on wishing Jay would turn off his right signal. I'm like, "Jay, either change lanes or turn off your signal!!!" LOL
Amazing video about an impeccable specimen of the best looking car from the late 60s/early 70s. I just discovered the Espada and have totally fallen in love with the design.
+Mike Servis That was a bit of Jay bullshit. He bought his 1955 Buick when he came to California in the 1970s and he never sold it. He said he bought the Espada in 1986.
My dream car since childhood, nearly bought a used one in the early 90's but somehow I think I made the right choice in passing at it....I'd probably be sleeping on a park bench now with the running costs. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and to my eyes this is the most beautiful car ever made.
I know that, but the front of the Espada reminds me of the AMC it has like a hint of it, I wonder if the Javelin was inspired by the Espada but I might be wrong though!.
Before safety regulations and mandates designers were free to design as they wished. Cars from this period are stunning the miura is perhaps the most beautiful of all time. I had this car in matchbox form as a young child .
As a boy, I used to stare at one of these for at least an hour a week. The car was a champagne color and owned by a local Italian restaurantaur. I would head over to the restaurant and just look at the Espada. I'll always love these cars.
I had one, among the fastest and best looking of all my collection. I was 10 years old & kept them all in a box under my bed.
lol
was your name the octopus boy?
Nice! Matchbox were the best.

The switch should be mounted under the rear bumper or somewhere you can get to it from the outside. Jay, c'mon!
Great video. I would love to see a follow up to the Owens Magnetic.
I really enjoyed this! How about a few more videos on your own cars Jay?
The 1971 Mustang must have gotten some design clues from this car
Yes! I thought it looked familiar.
“This was my only car for several years” he says matter of factly lol.
poverty sucks. Just one car?
@@chrisc64 Yes should have offered him your chevy, The poor man.
13:07 - 14:37 Some say his turn signal is still on to this day
Jay . . . you made a remark about 10-11 minutes into this video: "This was my only car for a while" How long has it been since you've had one car?
Obviously then lol
+Mike Servis his only car to drive regularly, without hustle and problems in that period
+Mike Servis That was a bit of Jay bullshit. He bought his 1955 Buick when he came to California in the 1970s and he never sold it. He said he bought the Espada in 1986.
+Mike Servis i think he probably meant it was his only running, driving car for a while
Just because he had other cars doesn't mean they ran.
Absolutely Love it...
After seeing this it could be my favorite Lamborghini..??
it oozes Something really special ...
As always Thanks Jay...(:
My dream car since childhood, nearly bought a used one in the early 90's but somehow I think I made the right choice in passing at it....I'd probably be sleeping on a park bench now with the running costs. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and to my eyes this is the most beautiful car ever made.
My favorite car guy in my favorite Lamborghini and he's also a Taurus like me. 😁
It kinda reminds me of the AMX Javelin!.
+Victor Montano *AMC, AMX was a different model in the AMC lineup
I know that, but the front of the Espada reminds me of the AMC it has like a hint of it, I wonder if the Javelin was inspired by the Espada but I might be wrong though!.
+AChoired Beatbox your corrrct to a point, the last amx's were just a trim package on the javelin
+Victor Montano thats exactly what i thought!!
I know right?, gives away a hint of the Javelin!.
Oh no! Jay has gone senile old man driving down the road with his turn signal flashing !
lol
Yes! GBS! (Geriatric Blinker Syndrome) I think someone at Automobile Magazine coined this term.
He probably couldn't hear the indicator over the sound.
+David Palacios must of left his tin ear horn at home lol
+SickOfTheStupid Not the first time he crossing lines with blinker running hot
This video convinced me about the Espada -- plus, I love that color.
What an excellent way to spend 23:01 minutes of my time. Thank you Jay.
Before safety regulations and mandates designers were free to design as they wished. Cars from this period are stunning the miura is perhaps the most beautiful of all time. I had this car in matchbox form as a young child .
Same age as me...same kind of wiring too :)
check your blinker fluid jay :P
+Chakra Zoo ChrisFix?
haha
Real Italians are not bothered by the blinker, they doesnt even know if its exits. :)
who needs blinkers when he got power? the only time i use that part is to flash guys on the fast lane out of my way
nah he can't take credit for that joke it already was a thing haha
This was his "only car for a number of years!" That must have been a fabulous experience, driving an Espada every day.
As a boy, I used to stare at one of these for at least an hour a week. The car was a champagne color and owned by a local Italian restaurantaur. I would head over to the restaurant and just look at the Espada. I'll always love these cars.
And Doug just made a video on this.
Jay > Doug anyday tho.
