It's not so much about what people do privately, but about how we handle the topic. That's why this was made, to create a discussion about the stigma we have about virginity, premarital sex, abstinence, safe sex, etc. No one is talking possitions here, they're talking the impact of their choices in their life and in the society around them
blue 2122 Lol, people have ALWAYS being having sex before marriage....humans are very sexual creatures, after all. The fact is, good sex-education lowers the prevalence of teen births and std's.....so why aren't you advocating for that? As if I didn't know.....😂😂😂 Hmm, I’m sure I read somewhere that teen pregnancies and std’s are higher in the ‘abstinence’ loving Bible Belt. Will have to do some research....
Annaliese Jameson lmaoo i study in an all girls private school and it's not that bad. i would love to see people discuss their experiences with each type of schools though
People put so much pressure on virginity, especially as a teenager and young adult. It's a not a competition to loose it faster, it's not a right of passage, and it doest make you more of a woman/man. Go at your own pace and do what is right to you.
Personally I'm muslim and that doesn't exist between us xD So when I heard of those sort of competitions I was surprised, but like really ... I thought 'why would that be cool ?', I always thought having sex after marriage was the thing to do (still thinking that) at least I'll have no or 'less big' regrets.
@@lara.lauter In my eye I'd see someone who didn't have sex until marriage worthier than one that did it, but still what you think/believe depends on culture.
I think this is one of the first times that I believe that someone is a virgin because "they're waiting for the one". Bruh if you wanted to you could have sex whenever you want lol.
• amber • I get shamed for having sex with someone I deeply trust at age 15. We’d been dating a year and are still dating 3 years after sex. I don’t know why people have to be so touchy about this stuff and why my parents can’t see that I am with someone that I love and should be able to have safe sex without them making me feel so shitty for it.
I HATE the term purity as it relates to abstinence. You're not pure even if you are a virgin. Innocent maybe. But no one is pure. We're all imperfect sinners.
All purity means is being genuine with your thoughts words and actions. Purity is not the same as being holy. So it does apply to abstinence. Abstinence is staying grounded for what you want.(you can even abstain from coffee). Abstinence is only a genuine desire want to wait for whoever you think is worth giving yourself self to. Religious or not.
Be confident. The right person is written in your story. I know you said you aren’t religious but you may have heard the saying “He May not come when you want Him but He’s right on time.” God sends blessings only when we’re ready and prepared for this and because of the way God views sex as well as the way He loves you, he wants you to be prepared for that. He wants you to be whole.
@@aycaiix people who complain about 'appearance discrimination' tend to look for people way out of their league. I thought it was a biological fact that humans were most likely to mate with someone similar to them on the 'rating' (not sure how to phrase that) - it's also not a real thing. The amount of 3/10 guys or girls I've seen complain about not getting with 9/10 guys or girls really irritate me. If they see past appearances and fall in love with your personality or vice versa then that's amazing, but it's not entitlement that brings them to you but being a great person. If they aren't attracted to you, then that just sucks. I think people also forget that '2/10s' are also '8/10s' to the right person.
Completely agree! As a Christian, one option to help Christians be less judgmental is to tell them they are being "arrogant." We believe it's ok to judge sin, but many get confused and start being arrogant about their beliefs.
@@Nathan987651 While it's true what you say, I don't think Christians are more judgemental. It just sticks out more because Christians are held to higher standards. Atheists fail their own standards too though
@@Nathan987651 Yeah and just to echo what you said about judging sin. People who deny that must have never read Matthew 23 haha. We can judge, with the condition that it's not hypocritical.

Luke Green I mean that’s a freshmen and a senior in hs. Not really a huge difference, and it’s not illegal everywhere either. Plus it clearly happened a long time ago given that girl was like 40.
@vintage 725 I definitely wouldn't equate them with pedophiles, but I do think they are often being predatory. That's primarily based on personal experience though, so to each his own.
Luke Green in some states it is, and in some it’s not. Like for example, Minnesota (my state) if they are the age from 13-15, they can have sexual relations with someone 4 years older than them. (So 14, she could legally be with someone 18) and 16 is a age of consent.
suggestion: African immigrants and African Americans meet eye to eye? There has always been this tension in the black community where it seems that African-Americans distance themselves from their African heritage or that African immigrants see themselves as better than African-Americans. I don't know if this makes sense but having this has a middle ground episode could be a cool opportunity to delve into that assumption/assumed stereotypes and somewhat unite the black community in America!
Look at the movie documentary "the lost boys of sudan." It takes understanding the richness of African culture to realize the answer to this statement. African Americans (not immigrant dual citizenship or beyond first generation) are americanized and not the same. Though you see resemblances of black culture and traditional African legacy in dances, music / rap, and drumming, the two are different cultural streams.
I don’t know if the cultural tension was always that obvious though? I feel like that point has been exaggerated much more in recent years, than it has previously.
I think theres also a tension from stronger paternal bonds in Africa and the decreasing paternal bonds in the states. Lord knows we need stronger black fathers
Abstinence is a personal choice, which isn't the place of schools to teach. But schools should teach consent and empower people to say no if they want to. And safer sex knowledge is just facts. That should definitely be taught.
Being 100% factual the only way to 100% not have a chance for a baby or std is abstinence. You can never be sure that a child wont pop up or get an std.
@@orangehiccup5726 Actually, you can be 100% certain that you won't have a baby by taking necessary precautions with contraceptives. Namely, birth control and condoms COMBINED. You're fooling yourself if you think kids are gonna listen to your ramble about abstinence and gonna stick with it all the way till marriage. Ridiculous.
I think abstinence should be taught in school because like you said it is a choice like having sex is! Both should be I introduced with the pros and cons, so people don't feel forced into needing to partake in sex before they are ready! The other side of the sex talk that is often neglected!
I understand people making the choice to wait for their timing and I'm here for it. Do it when you and your parther are ready. But I disagree with this concept of purity because a person is a vrigin. I think this brings judgement and shame that a non vrigin is "dirty" or "used".
@@thesismoon8125 Human contact make people used? Do you not hug or shake hands? Maybe some virgins have had more human contact than non virgins, thus they are more "used". There is no logical moral distinction
Interesting! I wanted to offer up my take on abstinence- I'm 26, a virgin by choice. No religious reasons whatsoever. I just sincerely want to save it for marriage; it feels like the best choice for my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. That being said, I respect EVERYONE'S decision to do what's best for them! Never give in to social norms and always, rather - do what feels right in your heart.
I totally agree! Self discovery is powerful imo :) And you're right - although it's "normal" to be having sex ect, we're just choosing to take MORE ownership as to when we want it to happen and with whom, rather than conform to social constructs. I wouldn't "pressure" anyone to do as I do because I think it takes a lot of honesty (within yourself) to get to such a decision (being it without religious reasons)...that being said, I can totally see how sex is a healthy part of life. Never be ashamed for being you and making the choices that are whole with your spirit :)
Oh haha, yes I understood you meant masturbation, hence why I said "self discovery". I don't know if you're younger than I because if you are than maybe it makes more sense to feel ashamed of masturbation...I think it's natural and essential in life; at least in order for you to figure out your own body and see what gives you pleasure (at the end of the day, we have ourselves alone). I personally would be honest in admitting I do it but then again it depends to whom haha! You don't have to share that intimate part of yourself with anyone you don't feel comfortable with or even mention it if you're uncomfortable, of course. Hope that helps?
Agree completely! Nice to know others have the same opinion. I don't feel like I'm repressing myself by not having sex, like some of my friends have told me. And my decision isn't based on my religion either. It's just what I feel in my heart.
Haha yes, I had a feeling you might be younger - I feel you! It is super embarrassing to talk about when you're younger, for sure. No doubt about it. So yes, I do "do it" lol ! It's natural though - don't feel bad about it if you yourself also do it or enjoy engaging it it, with yourself (as long as you're being safe and respectful of your body ect, I would say). So yeah, I'm too told to deny it or act like it's gross haha :) Thanks for admiring my courage! To answer your question, I think it's easier to admit it maybe so in my age because it's like...I'm a grown Lady and it would seem odd (as a virgin) to deny my natural instincts and sexual "needs" that already are not exactly fulfilled by someone else...so I think it's natural to assume I "fulfill" those needs, for myself. I think people would assume that to, about us. So maybe that makes it somewhat less awkward? hopefully so and hope I'm making sense. I think the MOST embarrassed I had been (admitting to "doing it") was while I was asked in Therapy by a MALE Therapist that I'm soo attracted to - he literally flat out asked if I masturbate because he couldn't understand why I've never had a bf or been in a relationship (at my age) and so he of course had to go back in time and ask if I was ever attracted to men (which I am) and then got into this awkward space asking if I even fantasize sexually about men or even engage in masturbation...you BEST BELIEVE I was red as hell lmao !!! I could barely admit to it but I did, yes. Awkward as hell! haha. So yeah, even people like me get embarrassed for sure ;P
Hey there, Nic! I'm glad you agree with my comment. It's lovely to hear others such as yourself who totally understand where I'm coming from. You said it best - "I don't feel like I'm repressing myself by not having sex" - totally!

Angelica Pasek me! I’m 20. To be honest its not about “purity” i dont believe in that. Idk i just wanna wait and im not really that intrigued about sex. Plus for me i dont really wanna have sex with someone i dont love and I’ve never really loved someone. Dating at such a young age for me is a waste of time because i have too much shits on my plate right now
Angelica Pasek I feel like a good non-religious argument is that I don’t wanna share the risk of potential STDs with someone by going in raw, even though that’s gonna be significantly more pleasurable than using a condom. Also, you don’t have to worry about catching feelings with someone whom you already love from having sex, like some people do with FWBs or even sometimes a ONS. Additionally, having sex with someone who has a clean slate entirely eliminates potential jealousy or confidence issues that stem from how well the person’s ex(es) had sex with them. Sex is about as natural as food and even more gratifying, which is why it should be handled with caution regarding who you have sex with.
Having sex before marriage is all good. Waiting for marriage to have sex is all good. As long as it’s two consenting adults, obviously not related, it’s all good to do whatever. You do you. However, I do think that safe sex should be taught in schools with abstinence as an option. It should be put in along with everything else. Also, public schools should include getting tested as part of the curriculum and hopefully include places where someone can, just in case.
jequestrian Of course, but that’s what some people want. No committed relationships, just sex. Which is all good in my book, as long as both parties consent and are safe.
I agree, in the high school I went to we weren't even allowed to ask questions about safe sex, it's absolutely ridiculous. I lived in a fairly religious state and religion totally influenced what I learned about sex.
Addie H Telling them that they can get STDs and should get tested after any form of sex to make sure they didn’t catch anything is bad in a high school curriculum? They need to know these things. They need to know that just using a condom isn’t going to protect them from everything and there’s multiple ways to catch it. They should be aware that it’s a good thing to ensure your health after every partner.

Rendaboyd for you to say that one is more right than the other is disgusting and wrong. Everyone has the choice to either wait or not, and neither is right or wrong.
Ellen Jensen Yes that is true, everyone does have to choice, but to say it is not wrong to have premarital sex is in fact... wrong. There’s a word for it too, it’s called fornication. The Lord said this is a sin against the body. He commands Christians to flee fornication as a sin against self and God, for the believer's body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (see I Corinthians 6:18-19). It is very important to understand that neither fornicators nor adulterers will enter the kingdom of heaven (see I Corinthians 6:9-10). In today's world, the term fornication is rarely used and immorality between unmarried people is commonly accepted as a lifestyle. But immorality, however commonplace, is a sin that will keep millions of people out of heaven, unless they repent.

Heng Hui Mei I agree about the “losing” virginity but I think the way I’ve always interpreted “falling in love” is less the scary side of falling and more... skydiving. A little scary, especially at first, but exhilarating. It’s risky but it’s a rush, and it’s beautiful when you stop to appreciate how marvelous it can be.
Heng Hui Mei Heng Hui Mei "falling" refers to the more or less involuntarily nature of developing attachment, as there's so much biology and chemistry beyond our control that's involved . Also to explain "losing" virginity: most cultures recognize intimacy of any kind is only worth something when it's the the context of some kind of life-long commitment(marriage).we all intuitively know this, it sucks to be vulnerable relationally with a human being only to have them pull out on us as soon as we become inconvenient. The consequences for this now are only social these days, but back then, especially for women who relied on men for their provision, this was often deadly.
Heng Hui Mei I agree with virginity, you don’t lose something, but you rather gain experience and knowledge. Thinking virginity is worthy (or shameful) is quite harmful.
Free Hugs - maybe to* you* but the romantics of the world, myself included, would strongly disagree. love is sort of a dreadful thing, in the sense that’s it’s terribly frightening. But it’s so warm, it’s just (from my perspective) undeniably beautiful.
That is interesting. My grandma never phrased it like that, it was always "giving away" your virginity. Virginity is supposed to be considered a gift to your partner, not a burden.
I want to save myself for the wedding night and my non-Christian friends think I'm crazy. They say it will be embarrassing for my future husband and that no one will want to be in a relationship with me if they need to wait to make love. But I am proud of my faith and my decision to wait. I'm a virgin and proud of it.
They should’ve brought in someone who was practising abstinence out of choice and not just coz god told you to do so, would’ve given a different perspective.
RIGHT?! Thank you!! I mean come on, it’s not all about religion and social norms now. Whether you choose to screw or you not to screw. There are more “definable” circumstances to it, so why not bring somebody who goes by some other rhyme/reason.
It's interesting that the only person who hadn't been shamed about having sex was a guy who isn't a virgin. Society still places these expectations on women that having too much sex is bad, and it tells men that they aren't masculine if they are still a virgin at an older age. I think it's good that we can talk about sex more openly in our society today, but we clearly still have a long way to go to break these stereotypes.
Megan Carrington Not gonna lie as much as I disagree with flat earthers, I wouldn’t call them mentally unstable. I have some respect for them challenging scientific theory, even when round earth has been proven over 2,000 years ago lol
Every scientist is paid off by the government though. Look up Warner Von Brauns (the head of NASA) tombstone, he even admits the world is flat on there.
When abstinence is forced, it leads to people getting married quicker and subsequently leads to more abusive relationships. I have witnessed it as I am from catholic Ireland. Everyone got married young, but from what I can tell, the husband would beat the woman a lot. (Great grandparents). When women are coerced into marrying, that leads to a loss in women’s rights as they usually have kids shortly after and then have to stay at home minding kids. However if a person chooses to abstain that’s much better and won’t lead to these problems.
i strongly disagree with the virgin guy on the education thing. forcing one religion into schools is not okay. what he was talking about is something that should be taught about at his church, not in schools. school is for educating youth with facts and real information, not for forcing your own opinions and ideals on them.
To be honest, I think the debate in America surrounding public vs. private has much more do to with how much funding private schools draw away from public schools and how many more opportunities students have as a result.

It’s weird because marriage is literally just a legally recognized committed relationship. So I agree with the girl who made the comment about why is it not a sin after your married but it is before...?
actually in the bible the act of sex was marriage, adam knew his wife meaning sex and that was the marriage. There was never a ceremony. So i think God wants us to have only one partner
Biologically speaking, there are going to be emotions and memories and thoughts that go with every sexual experience. No significant physical sensation is purely physical, unless there's something wrong with your brain. Also, even if you think the sex is purely physical, there's no guarantee that your partner feels the same way. That's why a FWB relationship is so dangerous is because it may start with an understanding that it's purely physical, but there are many cases where it doesn't stay that way. Emotions often get involved when that was not the intent.
While I also 100% agree with what you said I don’t think it’s so much that sex causes an emotional reaction or connection I think it’s more that sex causes a release of serotonin and dopamine which makes us think there is an emotional reaction or connection. If you don’t know the person and it was just a one night stand or even a quick fling once the serotonin or dopamine is gone it becomes just a physical thing where as in a relationship you get those same happy chemicals from just being around them sex or not.
Here's some things to consider, In abstinence-teaching districts: -Abortion rates go up -Rape rates go up -Teen pregnancy rates go up So... do with that what you will.
I feel like the most you try to force something onto someone (here abstinence), the more they will try to go against you and push the boundaries. If it’s not your choice, you will never commit to it 🤷🏾♀️ just my opinion
Would love to see the actual stats on these claims. Teaching a generation of students to pursue self-control is never a bad thing. Sadly, though, parents, esp fathers, should be teaching their children this, but too many are absent or unwilling.
That’s because they’re not properly educated on sex in those communities, which is a huge problem considering most will not want to be abstinent. Safe sex and most importantly consent need to be taught alongside the importance of abstinence to prevent these issues occurring as much.

But only with my long term relationships. So 3 people for me. I dated lots of people! But only 3 got to have me. After my first I had 1 more then finally my Husband. I believe it's completely up to you! You do it when you're ready and with love. And protection lol safe sex is very important!🙏🏽 I practiced safe sex for maybe %25 of my sexual life. I just got lucky/karma. I can't have children without medical medicine. But I didn't know that till after I got married (22). So I was risking it %75 of the time. 17yrs-22yrs is a big period of time to not use protection. I don't think I could handle being a teen mom. Like I said I got lucky but the same time karma. Please practice safe sex if you do have sex! Good luck hun❤❤❤
I felt the same way at 16. All my friends were active and I wasn’t. I waited till my freshman year of college. I dated a football player 🥰 Absolutely no regrets bc I was ready. I’ll just say...it’s not like opening Pandora’s box. The power to choose when and who is powerful. Never forget that! Btw I’m 34 now 🤓
@@heatsann4456 1. Not everyone thinks marriage is important 2. Not everyone sees virginity as an important thing, I don't even use the word "virgin" to describe myself. I'm just simply someone who hasn't had sex. 3. People have regretted the complete opposite. People have waited till marriage, had sex and realised they're not sexually compatible with their partner. Regret can go both ways so it's up to the individual to decide what's best for them.
I think sexual compatibility is an important thing to learn before going all in and getting married, which wasn't mentioned in the video. I've heard of many cases where people just couldn't work because one was kinky and the other wasn't. I personally would not want to wait till I'm already married to find that out.
@@SpinningSage True, but I believe there is a level of understanding that won't be reached from an outside perspective like that (meaning people talking about sex who aren't actually having sex) It can be easy to put those preferences on the back burner if they're not in the foreground. "Oh, you say you have this kink? Well okay..it can't be that bad" or "I'm sure we can make it work". Only to finally get there and realize, it really isn't that simple. I'm sure it isn't always like this, but no one wants to lose someone they love over a kink..but it happens. And it's not going to happen until they actually start having a sex life and realize they can't see eye to eye in the end.
Exactly. Sex is just another way of bonding but because it’s so stigmatized in this country, people overlook the fact that it can help you further your relationship with your partner
But if two people wait till they are married they WILL be compatible sexually. Your comment is only applicable to those who value sexual encounters before a committed relationship. If 2 people wait they have nothing to compare it to and it WILL be the best sex they have ever had 🙂. You mentioned "kinky". This is something that evolves from sexual activity and perversions which are adapted by those who practice them. Again, not likely an issue among those choosing to save themselves for marriage.
it depends on who you have it with too, it is really good, it might be exagerated but i feel it like, as something normal just as kissing if the 2 people are in a relationship or both agreed to do it safely, i don't really know why it still is a taboo, we just hit 2020 and have old ways to treat stuff that should've changed long ago with sex
@@edgaral As for me it can only be great if there's a communication between partners. Speaking as a man, the woman should be clean and beautiful likewise men should also be clean and handsome.
I used to feel so left out because I’m the only person in my friend group who hasn’t had sex. Some of them used to tell me to go out to a club and just do it. I found that so disgusting when she told me that. I’m a very sentimental person so I want to share that moment with someone who I know and feel safe with. Heck I even had my first kiss a few months ago and honestly, just that altogether felt special to me, it felt right for me and so memorable. When I told that friend of my first kiss, she was jealous because it was one of those movie/picture perfect first kiss. I don’t necessarily want to wait until I’m married, but mostly just when it feels right for me and the other person.
your 1st kiss or time with doing sex. Is when it become more than that action the connection so strong it form bond between the two. You could go down that club have sex five times but when met the one person trun the act of sex into something more beyond that point, that your will be your first time. Cause up to that point it was only an stepping stone to your real first.
Sex doesn’t get “better with marriage” it gets better when you have an open communication with your partner. You can wait till your married but that doesn’t mean what so ever that that is gonna be a magical experience. I don’t like when people say well it’ll be so much better when I’m married. Why or who told you that?
ArcticZombie well I believe in abortion. Also that’s why we have protection like birth control and condoms. It’s just the practice of safe sex. It’s not realistic for everyone to abstain from sex. So rather teach people to not even think about having sex or it’s “dangerous” we need to really incorporate safe sex talks and contraceptives in our future generations lives. And not by any means do I think being a virgin is wrong or staying a virgin until marriage is bad or impossible. It just isn’t realist to me or many people. There is nothing wrong to wanting to share yourself with someone before your married or waiting to marriage
@Artoria Pendragon That's funny because I believe anyone who forces people who don't want children into birthing them, then throwing those children into a situation where they will not experience the love of a parent who wants them and the stability of a healthy home or into a system where they are ignored, abused, and otherwise mistreated is part of a morally corrupt society.
I feel like we put too much pressure and attention on sex and virginity. If you lose it great if you don’t that’s great too. As far as the education system goes though we should teach safety and knowledge because even though abstinence is the only way to 100% guarantee not getting an std or pregnant, most people do not choose it. This is proven by the states that teach abstinence only education, but have the highest teen pregnancy rates. Also for the people that want abstinence only education, what do you think is going to happen when that person does decide to have sex but doesn’t have the knowledge about safety, contraceptives, consent, etc.??? Or are you expecting people to just pop out of abstinence knowing everything 😅
I still obviously use condoms to prevent stds but my birth control is 99.8% effective. That’s good enough for me😂 I definitely agree though the focus should always always be on safe sex because it’s sex ed. How are you educating people by saying “just don’t do it”
To me it isn’t such a big deal. I’m a virgin, but if you want to have sex with someone then that’s your choice and you shouldn’t feel bad if anyone disagrees. Same goes for if you don’t want it until marriage. My health teacher said: “What goes on in your bed stays in your head.” And to me that’s very true. Just remembered I am a Hamilton account, so here is another quote from said health teachers: “don’t cheat on your wives, guys”
would've liked to see LGBT people in this discussion, considering the cultural conflict with religion and the inherently different definitions of "sex" and "virginity"...I think it would be an interesting perspective to add to the conversation
Lgbt is a sex preference that's all, they are the same as the people in the video.Either you wait or you don't.Just cause someone's GAY doesn't change the circumstances.
Inherently ? Wait i'm gay and I'm pretty sure I've got the same definition of "sex" and "virginity" as straight people. I might not do it the exact same way, but the concept is the same. So I'm not sure what your point is actually.
I love the way Jessica approaches this topic and she makes it a lot easier to agree with her because of her background and how credible she is in this sort of situation.
Is sex a purpose in it self in Christian marriage? Christian marriage life is not based on relationship of two body but on relationship of two characters , two people who are free , special , have full respect , evaluating his human value , important In. Itself, loved in itself not for anything he has , and not for his body , cause person in itself is more percious , more valued - without measuring units - more then anything we have , cause the thing is used , consumed ,played with ، we may dispense with that thing , but person his freedom is respected ، reasoning with him , live with and he is special and unique and indispensable . In christian marriage every partner love each other for being him as whole entity , love his presence , mentality , ethically ، characteristics , bodily, behavioural and this is the christian marriage but love the other for what he have or for his body it is not original Christian marriage . Sexuality in bible by adel halim
@Elijah Gwayumba And yet, all that matters is you respect them. Doesn't matter if you like them or not, what matters is was we all want to be respected in the end.
I think anyone can do whatever they want with their body and sexuality BUT we should defenetly teach safe sex in sex ed. We should talk about how for some people sex is something really meaningfull and because of it, some decide to save it for marriage, and they should not be shame for it. But for other people sex can be something fun, something that is a part of your life that its natural, and we also should not shame that.
Regardless of whatever; married or not, religious or not, you should wait until YOU are ready to take that step. Not until someone tells you you’re ready
There is NOTHING wrong with abstinence as long as it's a 100% informed choice. People should be given adequate sex education and not be shamed if they choose to have sex.
@@adonaibaptiste4803 Depends if it's to remove dark spots and blemishes cool. But if it's cause you hate your natural skintone and been indoctrinated by the fair skin beauty standard belief not cool.
Adonai Baptiste I think that it will give an open discussion about it. If we do one on skin bleaching and people talk about their experience with skin bleaching people might not do it because of they watch this. Just because you don’t deem it as “good “doesn’t mean some people don’t view it as bad. People are going to do what they want to do. I’ve actually been researching skin bleaching because I read a book about a black girl talks about it, and it’s crazy how it messes up your melatonin. I want people to see how these people look. Most skin bleachers that strip away a lot of the melatonin don’t look black, and they don’t look like white. I think that it’s information that should be out there. If you choose to do it because people don’t know how damaging it is to the skin.
The idea of middle ground is understanding where other people are coming from, agreeing to disagree, and maybe compromising a little and becoming less harsh in your opinion. That’s not what people need in way of skin bleaching. Doing harm to your body with harsh chemicals because you want lighter skin isn’t something people should be meeting in the middle on.
I think a better way to frame your request is manipulating your skin tone through extremes like tanning beds, whitening injections, skin bleaching vs using darker/lighter foundations, tanning lotions etc which aren't that harmful, discussions could focus on diverse cultural beauty standards, pressures from respective communities, bullying, misinformed commercials, colourism. self-love, "blackfishing" (which is very trendy nowadays)and the horrific dangers of using these extreme interventions (harsh chemicals etc) because of low-self-esteem. The purpose of the discussion would not be to demean the people that use bleaching but to learn from their experiences and the psychological reasons that drive them to these extremes so we the public can get better educated.
I'm more concerned with the negative connotations of staying abstinent, especially with people who are religious. Like you are only ""good" or "worthy" if you wait until marriage to have sex. It seems like regardless if they want to have sex or not the feeling of shame is what fuels the decision to stay abstinent more than anything else.
Not really that's for those who don't know better. Waiting for Marriage is another way of saying wait for someone that worth your time. There's more things to do in life than just have sex.....and that's if you even have the energy to do it with how tiring and hard life can be as an adult. Don't waist your time with people who aren't worth your time and will cause unneeded heart ache & stress, when you still have other things to do.
waiting can be a beautiful thing. For a man to stand with his bride on their wedding day, and for her to know that this man before her, having waited 20 something years to share his entire self with her, commits himself to her, all for her and her alone. Waiting, or re-commiting to waiting, is realizing how very precious and special his or her body is, and that this is a gift not to be given out so easy because it's so special. Imagine how difficult it is to wait, especially in the world live in today, crazy difficult! I hope that "waiting for marriage" is not a shameful topic, however I know that can be put that way, and that makes me sad. To shame someone into doing anything is the worst and very unhealthy. Waiting can be a very beautiful thing.
@Matthew Garay Fair, personal experience is not universal by any means. I disagree that virginity *itself* is a shaming thing... but I definately know that it can be used as a way of shaming others. I don't understand what you say "virginity is confirmed as not real", because how then is something real? Of course not all practice virginity, but that does not overlook that it does exist for some who choose it. Of course, a person is free to go ahead and make decisions, abosolutly. I think that's a really important part, to think and choose what is best. I think however, that virginity, although a definately difficult road to take, does have major benefits and anyone can take that road, anytime!
@Matthew Garay in another way, someone who does not have values that align with virginity, that is their choice. Of course I'll be friends with that person and want the best for 'em, but I'll just disagree with that person in that regard.
@@rachelw3533 I’m not sure if they deleted their comment but I don’t see it. I’ll answer you though. Virginity isn’t real because it’s just a social construct. There’s no word that means “I haven’t broken a bone” or “I haven’t gotten a tattoo” you just simply state those things. Virginity was made up as a way to shame women for having sex with more than one man. I know that it’s weird to think about because it’s so ingrained in our society that it’s a real thing but it’s just a fancy term for “I haven’t had sex”. It shouldn’t matter to anyone whether or not someone else has had sex unless you speaking in the sense of “is it possible you have an std” because that’s the only time it’s necessary to ask that question. Every other time it’s just out of curiosity or the want to shame that person
I just discovered this channel like a week ago, and I'm absolutely in love with it. THIS is how you have conversations. It shouldn't be screaming and yelling matches; both sides should be able to present their opinions equally. Not really, I know many people who have remained abstinent for non-religious reasons - even as a college student. Statistically, young people on average are actually having less sexual partners and refraining entirely in higher numbers than previous generations. Many people I know feel like they just haven't connected with someone enough yet to sleep with them. Others cite the risks associated such as unplanned pregnancy and STDs. Some also claim that they're just too busy for relationships right now because of immense pressure in school/work to eventually pay off their debts; naturally that'll lead to less sex in general
My reasoning is quite straightforward. I wouldn’t want a slut to be raising my children. If I want to be worthy of an honourable woman, I can’t be screwing everything that moves.
I don’t know if that would work cause what are they arguing? Why you should or shouldn’t cause no matter what someone has to have kids and it’s usually the people who want them. How are we supposed to populate the earth if everyone doesn’t want kids?
@@CtrlAltPlant I think it's more about the pressure society is putting on women in that regard. The ted talk "I don't want children - stop telling me I'll change my mind" by Christen Reighter is about this topic and quite enlightening. You can find it here on youtube if you're interested.

Having sex before marriage actually made me feel shittier about myself because In the end everybody I did it with I was using and vice versa, there’s actually value in loving someone and caring for them, makes it actually mean something
Hey there! Your comment was made one year ago... in that time, IFS statistics have shown that people with more sexual partners before marriage are more likely to divorce, be bad parents, and the children of such people are also more likely to cheat. So it's now a scientifically proven fact that pre marital intercourse is bad....
It’s dependent upon a lot of factors and the way in which it is taught, to which many fail to do well. There’s no contradiction in teaching sex education and abstinence as serious, loving couples may rather not want children yet.
@@meganaxelia Don't you think that "loving couple who may not just yet want children" would be aware of how abstinence of sex can insure no offspring? Because...they generally will. Abstinence education isn't for that. It's for children, not for those type of couples. So it seems a bit disingenuous.
daddyleon I wasn’t talking about education of what abstinence is in a literal sense, I was talking about the cultural, societal and logical values and point in abstinence. I alluring to the fact the point in abstinence runs far deeper than, ‘not accidentally having children’.
Smart people learn from their experiences. Wise people learn from other people's experiences. I decided to keep away from the drama while I was in high school because I saw how friends lives were ruined.
Sex is such a strong urge for people, that to reject it they need a lot of strength. Abstinence is not something people would do just for the heck of it. That group is very very small.
Yeah, as others have said, it kind of makes sense. Abstinence is a discipline choice. Without a strong reason for discipline, like religion (the strongest source an average person is going to have), there's not much that's going to give them strong motivation AGAINST sex. There are some people like that, yes, but I would guess that a majority of people who choose abstience do so because of religion. It's the only common source of that much discipline in actions.
Abstinence is a personal choice p e r s o n a l SO no, abstinence has no place in sex education. (EDIT: whether you are chosing to “save yourself” for marriage or choosing to become a dominatrix, its ur choice to do it so but there is no place for it in sex ed. cause I dont think its the content that we should teach to kids/teens.) I believe that we should encourage the thought that it's more than okay to say no if you don't wanna have sex no matter the reason. If you dont want it, thats it. Safety, consent, preparation, protection, seeking for help, diseases, pleasure points for both gender, basic biology, not shaming others for their sexual choices or not shaming others for their sexual orientation or gender identification etc. that's what they should teach you in sex ed and NOT abstinence.
I think it’s definitely wrong to say it has no place. You always give them an alternative and let them know it’s okay to be celibate, not just “you can say no”.
This. Abstinence is not a thing in my country. It is never mentioned, not ever. Teaching consent picks up everything when it comes to choice. It's also called sex education and not religious education.
But if kids should have the ability to choose, shouldn't all options be presented? Not in a "you have to be abstinent" way but more of a "there's nothing wrong with being abstinent". I think it would be great to have a curriculum that teaches all about safe sex (and what sex is, because a lot of people seem to think there's things that are "technically not" sex), as well as talking about abstinence and how to handle pressure to have sex if that's not what you want.
@Matthew Garay what do you mean virginity isn't real? It's the state of not having had sex. If it's used to shame women why do some people make fun of men who are virgins? Kids really shouldn't be having sex at all. But they should be thought about what is and isn't safe, and how to protect themselves if they find themselves in an intimate situation.

People put so much pressure on virginity, especially as a teenager and young adult. It's a not a competition to loose it faster, it's not a right of passage, and it doest make you more of a woman/man. Go at your own pace and do what is right to you.

I agree with this, and also Afro-Caribbeans.
Yes ! This really needs to be addressed.

Addie H you don’t want to know if you have STDs? A potentially life altering situation?
Addie H Telling them that they can get STDs and should get tested after any form of sex to make sure they didn’t catch anything is bad in a high school curriculum? They need to know these things. They need to know that just using a condom isn’t going to protect them from everything and there’s multiple ways to catch it. They should be aware that it’s a good thing to ensure your health after every partner.

But immorality, however commonplace, is a sin that will keep millions of people out of heaven, unless they repent.

is it just me or do i feel people in general describe love and virginity very negatively, "falling in love", "losing virginity", why fall, why lose?

Being a virgin actually mattered when getting divorced was a big deal and was shameful
Sadly majority of people don’t take marriage seriously anymore
actually in the bible the act of sex was marriage, adam knew his wife meaning sex and that was the marriage. There was never a ceremony. So i think God wants us to have only one partner
So many people attach Christianity to marriage when 1) marriage existed before Christianity and 2) marriage exists outside Christianity.
Did it exist before Adam and Eve?
Biologically speaking, there are going to be emotions and memories and thoughts that go with every sexual experience. No significant physical sensation is purely physical, unless there's something wrong with your brain. Also, even if you think the sex is purely physical, there's no guarantee that your partner feels the same way. That's why a FWB relationship is so dangerous is because it may start with an understanding that it's purely physical, but there are many cases where it doesn't stay that way. Emotions often get involved when that was not the intent.
glad somebody has the rational to logically scrutinize this argument. I 100% agree.

Not because of that
I feel like the most you try to force something onto someone (here abstinence), the more they will try to go against you and push the boundaries.

Yes true, as even married and serious, long term, respecting couples want safe sex!

@@baileybabb2124 I grew up in a small southeast Texas town and they only "taught" abstinence only sex education. I was pregnant at 14 a month after losing my virginity and was married off to the father that was 22. They built a school for teen mothers to take their babies to school with them that I started going to when my son was 6 weeks old. Why they thought that was better than education beats the hell out of me. And that was 1997, the school still stands 3 blocks away from where I live now. I'm a grandma at 36 years old from the son I had at 14. He was almost 20 when he his so son. I also have a 17 year old son and 14 year old daughter. I've taken it upon myself to be open with them because still to this day, they only "teach" abstinence only. No changes at all in 22 years and it's damn shame. So I teach my own kids. The cycle ends with me. Condoms and birth control. And a lot open conversation. Something my folks didn't do. I'll be damned if my daughter will be a child bride like I was!!! Love this so much, as a 16 year old female that is constantly ask why/if/when/how virginity. At times I find it frustrating, I’m still a virgin that neither absence, or premarital. I’m neither waiting or trying to lose. I’m just going with the flow if it happens it happens if not it’s ok. I just love listening to both sides.
Daisy Love i was the same way. I was a virgin till December 2 weeks before Christmas (19 and still 19) best decision ever. I had a friend that lost hers at 15 and she regrets not waiting till she was actually ready.
I lost my virginity at the age of 15 (now 24) I lost it to someone I loved, no pressure both wanted to be "one". So for me I don't regret it all. I've had sex since the.

Wait til marriage you will feel very bad if you don't
@@heatsann4456 1. Not everyone thinks marriage is important
Yes, everyone is different! Especially virgins who don't know what feels good to them!
ChristineRewild I'm pretty sure people should talk about themselves and what their into before deciding to marry someone else.

This is proven by the states that teach abstinence only education, but have the highest teen pregnancy rates. Also for the people that want abstinence only education, what do you think is going to happen when that person does decide to have sex but doesn’t have the knowledge about safety, contraceptives, consent, etc.??? I think anyone can do whatever they want with their body and sexuality BUT we should defenetly teach safe sex in sex ed. We should talk about how for some people sex is something really meaningfull and because of it, some decide to save it for marriage, and they should not be shame for it. But for other people sex can be something fun, something that is a part of your life that its natural, and we also should not shame that.
Regardless of whatever; married or not, religious or not, you should wait until YOU are ready to take that step. Not until someone tells you you’re ready

Please do one on skin bleaching
If you choose to do it because people don’t know how damaging it is to the skin.
wiseguy240 Winston That isn’t normal or natural at all, goes against nature and is horrible for your skin.

(EDIT: whether you are chosing to “save yourself” for marriage or choosing to become a dominatrix, its ur choice to do it so but there is no place for it in sex ed. cause I dont think its the content that we should teach to kids/teens.)
I believe that we should encourage the thought that it's more than okay to say no if you don't wanna have sex no matter the reason.
I think it would be great to have a curriculum that teaches all about safe sex (and what sex is, because a lot of people seem to think there's things that are "technically not" sex), as well as talking about abstinence and how to handle pressure to have sex if that's not what you want.
yessss
@Matthew Garay what do you mean virginity isn't real? It's the state of not having had sex. If it's used to shame women why do some people make fun of men who are virgins? Kids really shouldn't be having sex at all. But they should be thought about what is and isn't safe, and how to protect themselves if they find themselves in an intimate situation.
