    This video is awesome, and hilarious, and it has a great message. That being said: Troom Troom self defense videos are so bad, I wouldn’t even test them out in my bad self defense series because I assumed they were a joke. When my kids found some of them on RUclips, they wouldn’t stop laughing about how bad they are. I mean, when a six and nine year old instantly know it’s garbage, what are the chances that any adult human being with a modicum of intelligence would take Troom Troom seriously as self defense advice? Maybe the real problem is that Troom Troom is marketed on RUclips as “made for kids” so it ends up being recommended to children on RUclips’s kids platform. Not every child has a dad who has coached them in combat sports since they could walk.

    • @TheQue5tion
      @TheQue5tion 3 года назад +33

      To be fair, your kids already have a wealth of knowledge that a lot of adults are lacking.
      You also have to account for how naturally lazy we are as a species, so anything that looks like it can protect you while using the least amount of energy (in both the technique and in terms of energy spent training) will always be appealing to those who live a more sedentary lifestyle.
      And then, there is the Dunning-Kruger effect. People gain a little bit of knowledge on things like pressure points and think they know a lot, then see those terrible videos that enforce this belief through "practical demonstrations".
      I've actually had friends sharing such videos on Facebook. As soon as I get them to tag someone they know who has boxing experience in those posts, they quickly learn how terrible those videos really are. Because they will always believe a boxer over a martial artist on account that they can actually understand how boxing works.

    • @theBrightman
      @theBrightman 3 года назад +24

      Lots of adults don't have a modicum of intelligence unfortunately. But as you said the real problem is this is targeted to a demographic that is still developing reasoning skills and expects all knowledge to be in short form clips instead of long form training. It's bad stuff. Although I would love to see you do these videos in your series.

      @msihcs8171 3 года назад +1

      @@jamjambo351 That's just one of the many problems with these videos, in order for a technique like that to work the women they're marketing need to have Brian Shaw levels of grip strength (I doubt the average woman has grip strength on the level of the 4x World's Strongest Man Brian Shaw.) Master acrobats might be able to pull off some of these things, but the average person (male or female) would not be able to do that, for the OP it's more of a point where if you're large enough most attackers wouldn't be able to do much if you decided to take them to the ground. But once again grip strength and control of your body comes into play.

      I agree. Often these techniques are not taking into account the difference in strength and stature between the attacker and victim. Sure you can learn how to use someone's weight to your advantage but not by watching a RUclips video. You need to train against many different opponents in order to understand the mechanics for yourself. And if I hear one more man say the best thing to do is just give them what they ask for I will scream. Generally men's primary concern in these situations is being mugged. But that is not the case for women. Generally when women think about being attacked their main concern is rape. You can easily replace your possessions but the trauma a woman could experience is going to last a lifetime. This sort of content suggests that these techniques will work for anyone without any training required and that's not the case. It's dangerous.

      These videos were geared to stereotypes of how men on the street attack women, which is not haymakers and hooks. It's more grappling and body control than anything which is why they were confused when the bad guy kicked her.

    • @Olav_Hansen
      @Olav_Hansen 3 года назад +2

      Most portrayed moves are kick and rear chokes (I have seen another troom response vid with like 4 rear chokes) while the kick is rare even in such a situation, and you shouldn't let people come at you from behind so the choke isn't very useful either.
      And then there is the truly stupid stuff like the extending umbrella.

    That catch the knife and twist the arm thing has actually worked for me once. However it was on a much smaller and weaker opponent with no martial arts experience vs a bunch of grappling experience. But I’d say 99% of the time, you’re not going to be attacked by someone smaller and weaker than you

    These are great. I often wonder if these techniques really work. I also really love the humour, 'Look at all the drugs I have' lol I also appreciate you point out that we're not generally so oblivious to our surroundings and portraying us as so is not right. I have backpacked 6 countries, alone, and found that being aware of my surroundings, and watching out for sketchy situations (the bad dude leaning against the wall looking at his drugs for instance lol) has kept me safe while travelling. Thanks for these videos and for the good natured humour! Luv it! PS, I never know what to do with my hair either...
