the two tufts of hair that stick out of the "mask" when nick is not wearing it, is hilarious, I also love the fact he just put the glasses on over the mask instead of just taking them off
The “I’m being kidnapped!” **gets dragged into a menacing dark room** immediately followed by the happy little music in the Troom Troom intro is genuinely one of the best clips ever
Regarding melting a zip tie with a match: I'm pretty sure Troom Troom took this from the real life case in which one of serial killer Bob Berdella's victims escaped using this method. However, the reason he was able to do this was because Bob Berdella had been sexually assaulting him for a long period of time and was deluded into believing that his victim was actually in love with him, so he became more lax in his restraints when he left for work. The reason the victim couldn't simply bend at the waist to pick up the match was because he was tied to a bed post. Naturally, Troom Troom wasn't going to include any of these disturbing details and wanted to present a sanitised version of kidnapping in which the victim is never in too much danger, so the context is lost and this tip seems really bizarre as a result. I imagine the rest of these tips are similar: Things that have been/could be legit avenues of escape in specific circumstances, but without those circumstances it just seems weird and useless.
@@ratman9778 Exactly. That's really the main problem with this whole premise is that real kidnapping scenarios are usually much darker than just "cartoonish bad guys wanted money so they take someone for ransom."
And they use this messed-up case for a clickbaity and almost completely illegitimate life hack video? Troom Troom seems so much more controversial than they ever were before
@@LadyUndeath it doesnt always work with zip ties though i tried it once and it tightened around my wrists and i had to yell for my dad to get heavy duty scissors 💀

@@sr.papagaio This is actually important to know, because if you're certain your kidnapper is intending to kill you, then it means you have good reason to kill in self defense since it's a literal life and death situation. Which means no wasting time trying to reason with them, or hoping the cops will find you in time to take care of the situation for you. This "fun fact" means you're in extreme danger, so you're allowed to go to extreme lengths to save your own life.
The car “hack” could work too. We used to have a car that opened to the trunk like that, but the mechanism to open it was on the outside, so you’d have to break it open and make a ton of noise in the process. However, a dependable fact to know is that all cars made in America after 2002 have a glow-in-the-dark handle in an easy to find location that releases the trunk from the inside. People sometimes get shoved into their own trunks, so locating where yours is at is a good idea. Also, if you have a car from 2001 back, s as mechanic can install one for around $50. It’s worth it; it could literally save your life!
Yeah most cars have a metal jack and some tools like a socket wrench for changing tyres so you can use those for prying or smashing And if there's none of that, try to kick through the brake lights - most cars have them built into the trunk and they're much weaker than the rest of the car around you and will hopefully help you to open the lid Or if your hands are completely free for some reason, some older cars you can find, reach and manipulate the actual lock clasp from inside the trunk And if all that fails? Just wait until they open the trunk again and go all Jackie Chan on those suckers, then walk out as the car explodes behind you
why is no one talking about the square knot jokes and nick just saying "jesus" to both times that was the absolute height of comedy for me. perfect setup, perfect execution, perfect reaction
@@jiabarrett Of course! Everyone knows that not buying your kidnappers tvs is the most utterly disrespectful, horrendous, horrific, dastardly, wicked thing one could ever do in one's lifetime.
the “tense up while being tied up” is actually a real thing, in case anyone was wondering. it doesn’t work quite as well as in the troom troom video but it gives you a little more space to work with. edit: since people actually saw this i want to mention the duct tape thing is real, too. obviously it won’t work that easy though. you’re supposed to raise your arms over your head and bring them down sharply and quickly, while also pulling your elbows apart. it’ll probably take a couple tries but it is genuinely good advice.
8:13 actually references some good advice (although they don’t explain it at all) It’s actual police advice in kidnapping situations to always take an opportunity to escape if it presents itself. People sometimes choose not to risk an escape attempt in kidnapping situations because they’re afraid that they might get hurt for doing so. The advice makes sense though because any opportunity you pass up is going to guarantee you’ll stay trapped but any opportunity taken gives you a chance
just gonna put this out there, if you actually get kidnapped, focus on staying alive and calm, not breaking out of whatever restraints you might have on. you won’t be able to magically get away just because you aren’t restrained anymore, and, unless you have a very clear opportunity (like being left alone in a room full of weapons) escape should be lower on your list of priorities than finding a way to contact the police.

With an older car, it is possible to slam the seat back, but is it the smart thing to do? A car seat isn't made of armor, and its not designed to let you slam it down on someone like that. Maybe pushing the whole seat back rather than reclining would be more effective. You can get more force behind it (assuming its manual). Problem is that you can push it only so far before it hits the end of its rail and stops. Is it wise to waste time gambling that'll slow the attacker down?

Plot twist: the camera person is actually a kidnappee, and danny is taunting them by showing them all the ways they could escape, but can't because danny knows about them
I actually knew about the duct tape thing already. Duct tape has three layers: polyester, cotton, and an extremely strong adhesive which is why it works so well. It does however have a weakness which is stress so when you tense your muscles and lit your hands above your head, and pull your hands apart quickly, it rips the tape. That’s why that hack works.
Yeah, while it is nice troom troom has shared something that actually works, it's not exactly new knowledge. They probably made the kidnapping video just because they found out about this
@@Kellyericah0pe exactly like that was the only one id heard of & i already knew it worked so it was weird when they didnt think it would work & hadnt even heard of it
Legit had no idea this worked despite having duct tape around everywhere. It’s so stretchy though but really not that sticky against human skin so I’m always confused why it “sticks” in movies on faces. I’ve put it on my face and it comes off so fast, it only really sticks to itself. Now electrical tape on the other hand, that stuff never comes off skin without a fight lol.
Just in case anyone's wondering: Snapping someone's neck (at least the way it's shown in movies and in this video) is total fiction. The human neck isn't a twig, it requires a great deal of force to break, the kind of force most people won't be able to generate, especially in one swift, smooth motion. If it really was that easy, we'd be seeing a lot more broken necks from people getting punched in boxing. What makes this even funnier for me though, is that the actress in the video is shown as doing it while the kidnapper is attacking her from behind and she's clearly struggling to so much as get a solid grip on him. So what, is she breaking his neck using only the power of her wrists? That's one crazy strong kidnappee right there!
I've seen cctv footage of teenagers fooling around, an elder kid accidentally snapped the neck of the younger ones 😥 I'm always terrified of touching someone's head with both my hands now
@@dizzy_ddigital That's honest to God surprising to me, but I'd probably credit that more to the fact that they're children than anything? You should definitely be careful with how you handle children, but an adult is going to have much more solid muscles supporting their neck.
Most matches you'll find in everyday life are "safety matches". They can only be lit when struck against a specially prepared friction surface. The material on the match head has to be combined with chemicals in the striking surface to cause the chemical reaction leading to the fire. There are "non-safety" matches (aka "strike anywhere matches") that can be lit on any kind of dry surface with enough friction, but they tend to be just a bit more dangerous because they can in principle inadvertently be lit when they rub against things like the side of their box or other matches.
Wow, never knew that. This explains a lot, like why trying to light matches from an old matchbook is so maddening. The chemical on the friction surface had probably started to degrade by then.
If you're in the case where they snapped his neck, what you could actually do is stomp on their toe. Toes are extremely fragile and if you angle your heel you'll shatter their toes pretty easily.
That awful advice, it'll hurt but there's no way you can generate enough force through a stamp to cripple somebody enough to let you go. That's only going to annoy the guy. There's a reason you rarely see anybody going for the foot stamp in the UFC, it's a waste of energy
I think you're better off sticking your fingers in their eyes. If someone was strangling me (god forbid) I hope I could gouge their eyeball out. Surely they would let go of you if that happened! And it would be hard for them to see you after that and you could run away
@@em84c that's a better idea (although, it's really difficult to gouge out an eye with your bare hands, there's a lot of tendons keeping it in place). Really, when somebody has your back and in a choke, your first priority is sliding your hand between their arm and your neck to create space. In Brazilian jiu-jitsu you'd call it "answering the phone"
@@killslay it's not awful advice just half-baked. In self defense classes they teach you that stepping on toes is perfect BUT it has to be followed up so you're not stomping to cripple, you're stomping to surprise (my favorite is stomp and throw elbow or stomp, drop and run). Besides, you may not see it in UFC but your attacker won't be at that level so it's perfectly reasonable. Also isn't answering the phone in Brazilian a completely different move?

Danny not understanding how stretchy fabrics work during the crafting segment is one of my favorite parts of the video

$50? I think I'll just die.
ooo I didn’t know you could get them installed, that’s really cool to hear!
Or if there is a jack in the trunk you can use that.
Yeah most cars have a metal jack and some tools like a socket wrench for changing tyres so you can use those for prying or smashing
And if there's none of that, try to kick through the brake lights - most cars have them built into the trunk and they're much weaker than the rest of the car around you and will hopefully help you to open the lid
Or if your hands are completely free for some reason, some older cars you can find, reach and manipulate the actual lock clasp from inside the trunk
And if all that fails? Just wait until they open the trunk again and go all Jackie Chan on those suckers, then walk out as the car explodes behind you

8:13 actually references some good advice (although they don’t explain it at all)
It’s actual police advice in kidnapping situations to always take an opportunity to escape if it presents itself.

I actually knew about the duct tape thing already. Duct tape has three layers: polyester, cotton, and an extremely strong adhesive which is why it works so well. It does however have a weakness which is stress so when you tense your muscles and lit your hands above your head, and pull your hands apart quickly, it rips the tape. That’s why that hack works.
Yeah, while it is nice troom troom has shared something that actually works, it's not exactly new knowledge.
They probably made the kidnapping video just because they found out about this
it made me laugh that the one i’ve literally been taught by self defence amazed them so much, like i guarantee most women know that one already
My brain is so small to process this-....
TroomTroom- ARE YOU GETTING STRANGLED????
Danny - ...yeah:(
Just in case anyone's wondering: Snapping someone's neck (at least the way it's shown in movies and in this video) is total fiction.
Yeah, and like... her mouth was literally *on* his arm. If she wanted him to be in so much pain that he let go, she could've just bit him.
Its possible the kidnapper was overwhelmed with guilt and snapped his own neck by sheer force of will.
I've seen cctv footage of teenagers fooling around, an elder kid accidentally snapped the neck of the younger ones 😥 I'm always terrified of touching someone's head with both my hands now
Even if it doesn't kill them it will still hurt a lot. Sometimes i hurt my neck just by turning my head too fast
Very interesting
I am a certified criminal and I carry strike anywhere matches to let my kidnapped people excape (yes I have a barrel and is in a L shape)
@@frostkiller7451 at least you play fair
Neat! I didn’t know that.
@@em84c good advice for sure
