THE BATMAN HAD THE GREATEST PENGUIN

- There have been many great interpertations of The Penguin over the years.
Burgess Meredith did a fantastic job making a person feel like a cartoon.
Paul Williams did an incredible job making a cartoon feel like a person.
Danny DeVito portrayed a more physically monstrous version of the character...
and Robin Lord Taylor portrayed a more mentally monstrous variant of the character.
But Colin Farrell really brought the character from comic book panels to life in ways no one ever has before.
Which is why today we celebrate the greatest Penguin ever to make it to the big screen.

Colin Farrell Penguin was a highlight for sure. He took over every scene. Very interested to see what they do on his own show.
Colin Farrell gave a truly transformative performance in this film. He was thoroughly entertaining, menacing, and absolutely hilarious. The makeup looks great and he has the perfect persona for this specific version. As much as I would've loved to see Andy Serkis as The Penguin, I'm so glad that we got Colin Farrell's take.
Reeves' Alfred as Penguin? What would that have been like (Nolan North's Penguin from the Arkham games?)?
@@maddenboseroy4074 Maybe. I think it's a perfect fit.
He really shocked me, he only looked like Colin for 1 quick sec during the car chase when he checks his blind spot. Other than that, he killed it and was unrecognizable
Yes! And he harkened back to the prior Penguin performers within his own performance! Like how he says “retoined” instead of “returned” 😂 like the 1960s Penguin would have spoken
Well, i reckon a lot of the 1960s actors were New Yorkers. Only expected for them to pronounce it that way.
That is definitely intentional, Matt Reeves is unapologetically a 60’s Batman fanboy, he announced Farrell’s casting by taking a picture of BM’s Penguin costume, based Pattinson’s cowl off of West’s and you can even see the Shakespeare bust in Bruce’s penthouse I might even be misremembering things but I think back when he was thinking about making Pattinson’s costume blue and grey he took a picture of West’s suit to tell people he was considering it and trying to find a way to make it work
Burgess Meredith didn't speak like that at all
@@mrcritical6751 also the woman at Wayne Manor is meant to be an homage to Aunt Harriet, we have the sequence of him reverse grappling down the building similar to Adam West, the 4 Batman villains that appear in this movie (Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, Joker) all appear in the ‘66 film, the car is very much an homage to the Adam West vehicle, etc.
Oh that’s impressive. You picked up on the new one, I wouldn’t have gotten that.
The interrogation scene with the "what are you showing me ?!!!"is one of m'y favourites
Arkam games and the batman penguin are great. They really give you the feeling they can and will control Gotham if not for batman constantly stepping in to halt his progress.
Tv show wise he's either a cartoon parody of himself or over the top cliche that missed the feel of dangerous.
Rewatched this film today for the first time since I first watched in cinema a year ago and my god it’s so good, really can’t wait for the next one
Yep. It's an incredible movie.
Both The Batman and Batman Returns has my Favorite Versions of the Pinguin.
Same
I'd go with Robin Taylor Lord on "Gotham". (Also my favorite Riddler via Cory Michael Smith and an extremely honorable mention to Cameron Monaghan who was fantastic as proto-Joker Jerome, but crap as Joker.)
The show may have gone to such crap that I stopped watching after season 3 or 4, but the casting... *WOW!*
@@AustynSN I respect your Opinion but I going to be Brutally Honest I Do Like Gotham,in My Mind it Shouldn’t Exist.
@@featherguardian6023 I actually agree on that to a point. The performances were great, but the overall story was a HUGE disappointment.
The first problem was that they had actual supervillains in the first place. If Jim Gordon could handle these psychos, then why would they ever need Batman. If they were going to introduce villains and supervillains, then it should have been to make the point that the GCPD was COMPLETELY and UTTERLY outmatched. Have Gordon just barely surviving. Make it clear that he's in WAY over his head with Gotham. Also, introduce the fact that he's the only cop not on the take. Maybe even have a few cops shown that he finds out are donating their bribes to charity because they hate themselves and what they've become, but are too afraid not to play along for fear of what it could mean for their own families.
It should be a brutal harsh crime drama where the heroes never win.
As to Bruce Wayne, he should have been written out after the first season. Have him disappear at the end of season 1 with Alfred. None of this crap where he's just toiling around the manor for several years with Alfred training him. You certainly don't have him going on adventures and a childhood romance with Salina.
He.
Just.
Disappears.
Maybe an occasional reference where you see his face on a tabloid or something referencing an immature boy billionaire.
You keep him off the show until the final season. If all goes well, this would be season 8 to 10. You have him back in Gotham, making headlines, a different supermodel on each arm every night. Show him as a completely selfish waste of humanity. Then, show a couple scenes where he's alone and his demeanor completely changes. He takes off his shirt (for whatever reason the writers can think of) and he's completely buff, but his whole body is now covered in scars.
Then, on the last scene of the entire series, you start with a closeup of his face. He's outside at night. A lot of screaming, sirens, and and other noise can be heard in the background. You hear a gunshot and Bruce gets a look of absolute rage. He then pulls the cowl up and over his face. The camera pulls back to reveal he's on a rooftop, in full uniform. The light reflects of the white Bat-emblem on his chest as he spreads his cape into wings and dives off the roof. You hear somebody below scream "what the hell....?!?" and the sound of a thump. Then the same voice screaming and the sound of bones breaking as the screen fades to black.
@@AustynSN he was great in beginning but than they ruined him later seasons
Penguin: "Holy God, what are you showin' me?"
Jim Gordon: "This was around his head!"
Penguin: "C'mon!"
Gordon: "OPEN YOUR EYES!"
Batman the whole time: 🗿
100 percent agree and i think the fact his screen time was limited actually helped in a strange way and lays great groundwork for when he takes a bigger role in the sequel. Nice work Vee.
Arkham Penguin: “Your timing is perfect”
All 4 penguins are fantastic and all play their roles perfectly
I agree.i think Penguin got the best live action adaptations.
Colin Farrell's Penguin was the version I always wanted to see. Having said that I believe if Danny Devito was given the same makeup as Colin and Penguin character he would have done an equally as a good job. They even sound the same to me.
Robin lord taylor and collin are my favorite penguins
At the start, I wasn't buying what you were saying about him being the greatest Penguin, but you sold it
I agree this version of the penguin is better than the previous entries from other Batman films looking forward to the hbomax spinoff show
I still really like Danny Devito penguin best but I want to see more of Colin's take on the character
Couldn’t agree more. “Things Change.”
...He had actual penguin flippers for hands. it was stupidly cartoonish. colins version is better in every way. people need to accept that the old trilogy was based more on adam wests baman than the actual comic books. and they all aged like milk.
Thanks Vee for always having a video when I don't have anything else to watch 😉
I agree. He was the best penguin we ever got on live-action and with that being said i want more of him
I think my favourite is robin lord Taylor, the one from GOTHAM he just adds more layers to the character
Fax
Danny DeVito 🐧
The 70's batman penguin built a tank out of gold and tried to make a get a way.
My favorite lines from him : "Who's MuRdEr?" "The mayor, oh shit look at that it is", "AYE WHOA CMONNNNN WHAT ARE YOU SHOWIN ME"
Awesome breakdown of the character! I subscribed halfway through the video 😂
Colin Farrell the best PENGUIN since Burgess Meredith. Looking forward to the HBOMAX series.
Here's to hoping we see the kitty cat next. Also looking forward to the HBO Max penguin show as well.
HOLY GOD, WHAT ARE YA SHOWIN ME!? COMMOOON!
“Holy Cow! What are you showing me?!? Come onnnn”
that outro is legendary
My favorite Penguins are Robin Lord Taylor and Burgess Meredith.
I think the best part of Ferrell's performance is how it made other parts of the movie so much better than they would have been otherwise. For example, the Batmobile is basically just a tricked-out muscle car. That could have been really disappointing after some of the previous ones, but the look of absolute terror on Penguin's face when it showed up sold it so hard it instantly became my favorite.
"it's not about the power, it's about reaching out to people, GROPPING PEOPLE!!!"
- mayor oswald cabblepot
Cmoooon I love this over there over here
Despite having less screentime than Jared Leto in Suicide Squad, I'm in love with Colin Farrell's Penguin. Can't wait for his series next month!
It's about time we got an Irish Penguin.
He's got a Brooklyn accent, actually.
@@FrancisCastiglione I'm talking about the actor.
@@FrancisCastiglione Oswald is from Brooklyn which is about an hour from Gotham
He's the best comic penguin but Robin Lord Taylor is the best character who is penguin.
And Jerry Nadler is the worst penguin.
Danny DeVito was an interesting Penguin who may have had his flaws, but is still iconic.
For once, a video title from you I agree with. I've watched many of your videos and it's funny how you flip flop over the years. Keep making these. I enjoy them.
This Penguin more than any other reminds me of a Shakespearean villain--Richard III.
Robin Lord Taylor’s penguin was the best , had the most kills and screen time was funny and intimidating at the same time😂.
No
No
@@lilstupidahhboy5155Its my pov and in my point of view i liked him more than any other penguin.
The casting for this movie was just god tier in general. Matt Reeves already had Robert Pattinson in mind while writing the script and it really really shows, Zoe Kravitz as Selina feels like she jumped right out of a comics page and her chemistry with Pattinson is amazing, Jeffrey Wright exudes so much integrity it's easy to understand why he's the only cop Batman trusts, and Colin Farrell as Penguin... pure genius.
He was a more realistic and cool Penguin I guess but Devito will always be my favorite
Penguin: "Holy God, what are you showin' me?"
Jim Gordon: "This was around his head!"
Penguin: "C'mon!"
Gordon: "OPEN YOUR EYES!"
By the way, Farrell's performance occasionally reminds me of Danny Devito. That said, it works better for me if Penguin were like Jack Horner:
ethical bug: "YOU'RE AN IRREDEEMABLE MONSTER!"
Horner: "Wha, wha, what took you so long, IDIOT!?"
Holy cow.. I think
I liked Colin Farrell penguin
But I'm still Team Danny Devito penguin
I would have never known it was Clin Farrell if I hadn't known going in.
To me, Colin Farrell's Penguin had the same impact on me as Heath Ledger's Joker. They made me believe people like the Penguin and the Joker could really exist.
This is factual. This is not an opinion. Colin Farrell is The Penguin.
I have no idea how to transcribe that last scene, but I'd love to hear your take on the Batman's Cat Woman
Sometimes I wonder how much casting directors and fans fancasting miss by typecasting by appearance instead of seeing the full possibilities.
🐧 Come on! Vee you just gotta make what you want man lol we will watch it
Holy God what are you showing me Vee? Asking if we want a video? You know we do. Give us that shit.
Holy God what're ya showing me come ahhhhnnn
Holy god what’re you showin me! Come ooonnn!
HOLY GOD WHAT ARE YOU SHOWIN ME?!
Bro woke up and chose to drop facts. Let ‘em cook
Paul Williams and Nolan North are my favorite Penguins
Well your in luck for the HBO mat reeves batman show about the penguin
Gothams penguin is still my favorite but this penguin was good too
In a nutshell Penguin looked like penguin and Colin feral looked like Colin feral you could never know he was being acted by him
He looks like a cross between Richard Kind and Elias Koteas
I had a very knee jerk reaction to Farrell's casting as The Penguin myself. In fact, I strongly felt he would have been far better suited for Harvey Dent. But then I saw The Batman and kept forgetting it was Colin Farrell in the role. He did a stellar job, for sure.
Holy God! What are you showing me?! Come on.
I really wish they’d of gave Oz an English accent though cause what Italian have you met is named Oswald Cobblepot 😭
I love penguin from the Batman show
He was great in that show, and in *"the Batman vs Dracula"* movie... the Kabuki Twins, his henchwomen, were very unnerving to me.
I was happy when Tom Kenny got to reprise his role for *"Batman Ninja"*
(And *"Team Penguin"* is still one of my favorite episodes, but hey, I'm a massive Killer Moth fanboy sooo... that might play a role, since Drury Walker kicks ass in this ep)
And now he is getting a show on HBOmax.. Looks good, cant wait.
Holy God, what are you showing me? Come on!
Great video Vee! Also what you think of the Batam. Tell a tale games??
What I love about the penguin is he’s one of the few batman villains that isn’t really insane. He doesn’t belong in Arkham but rather blackgate. He’s just a guy with a lot of insecurities who has a lust for power.
Good video, but we all know the best version of the Penguin is hands down Burgess Meredith LOL
Facts
robin lord taylor is my favourite
Do save by the bell next
Danny Devitos penguin is the Goat he bit a guys nose
Yay the mad lad did it!!!
He was a fantastic Penguin. My only real complaint with him is that there isn't really anything about his appearance to justify him getting called "Penguin."
He's not that short, he's not that overweight, his nose is wonky, but not beak-like, he doesn't have flipper fingers, he doesn't dress in flamboyant tuxes often, & he isn't obsessed with birds.
The only two possible in-universe justifications I can see are his limp (which could be looked at as a waddle, but it's a stretch), & the fact that he runs the Iceberg Lounge.
I usually agree with you Vee but not on this one! Danny Devito Penguin is unmatched!
Are you kidding? His penguin was a mess of a character that didn’t know what it wanted to be and took the name of the character far too literally
@@mrbluesky4838 blame Tim Burton not me, I loved the creative additions to it. Catwoman revived from the dead by cats isnt comic accurate either but she is the best catwoman ever. Same thing for Danny devito
Why does it seem that producers and film makers are allergic to Penguin having umbrellas? Between The Batman and Gotham, penguin nearly NEVER has his trademark umbrellas with him, even if they aren't weaponized versions. It's like depicting Two-Face, except he isn't scarred and doesn't have a coin.
Danny D is mad at u V my Boy 😂
Do a video on terminator the Sarah Connor chronicles
Holy God - What're you showin' me?? C'monnn
I reckon Oz isn't Italian, Carmine's "You're a gimp in an empty suit" comment points to this for me, he's probably British/Irish overplaying the Italian accent and mannerisms to fit in, I hope to see more of this in the series
I really enjoyed the batman version. But gothams the best in my mind.
Gothams penguin has its fans that’s for sure. Definitely isn’t the first time I heard this comment. And really can’t argue with it. Forget his name but man he did heck of a job that’s for sure.
Robin lord Taylor
@@grandadmiralthrawn7251 - *Gotham* 's Penguin is also my favorite, even if *The Batman* 's was also great... one thing I'm a little bit concerned about, is that the new Penguin show will be a bit too close to *Gotham* , which was a bit like the story of Bruce, Jim Gordon, and Oswald Cobblepot's respective rises to power
(Batman, police commissionner, biggest crime lord in town).
Robin Lord Taylor was fantastic as Oswald, he and Cameron Monaghan ("proto-Joker") were definitely the show's breakout stars.
He wasn't perfect by any means, but it was nice to witness his rise to power.
Now let's see how this new show will deal with the same subject...
@Randall Flagg i am worried about that too, but hopefully, it will be different because this penguin already has a lot of power. Gothams went from umbrella boy all the way up to the ultimate crime lord.
@@grandadmiralthrawn7251 - Right, I wonder which fellow Bat-rogues he will face in this new show...
I've read that, much like in *Gotham* , he'll have to contend with Sofia "Gigante" Falcone for the throne.
I loved their little story in Gotham, Crystal Reed and RLT had a sweet chemistry.
In the new show, she'll be played by Cristin Milioti, so unless they go full fat-suit + crazy make-up again to make her look like her *The Long Halloween* self, seems like we're getting another "hot" Sofia for her second love action appearance.
Clancy Brown as Sal Maroni should also be interesting, in *Gotham* David Zayas' Sal Maronia was one of the reasons I loved season 1 so much.
Maroni and Penguin were such a fun duo, can't wait to see how it will turn out in the new show.
I liked Robin Lord Taylor’s Penguin
I beg to differ. It was Burgess Meredith in the first batman series in the Sixties.
Be like if Tony Soprano became the Penguin. So wonder if there was any inspiration for The Batman?
I would watch the Catwoman video
Penguin is my most favorite villian id so marry him in a heartbeat not becauss he is a mastermind that makes money but his origin story of his mother only showing him love and him constantly geting bullied kinda matches real life but also im just a sucker for mr. Cobblepot i always have been
Save by the bell please the day it died
Gotham had the best Penguin , played by the amazing actor Robin Lord Taylor , a lot better then The Batman
We still didnt seen that much penguin in the movie,so it's not the right way to judge, and I feel like hes on par with him, that's why we are getting a whole penguin show.
No never in life robin lord taylor is the worst penguin ever created he has no charisma not imposing he doesn't resemble the characters at all he is literally victimized by all the characters in the series who ask for mercy plus he has a relationship with riddler
I like this video and i hope to see a Catwoman video one day!
Gotham penguin was pretty good to
No
💯
He was definatly dope but I think Gotham had the best Penguin story !!!!
Danny Devito's Penguin meeting catwoman: "just the pussy I've been looking for"
Devito's Penguin is the greatest. His character was a dark twisted creep with a sense of humor that brutally bit the nose of a snarky dickwad, and he drove a duck and strapped rockets to penguins. Farrell's Penguin wasn't bad, but forgettable in comparison to Devito's.
💕
Honestly he would have made a great Penguin without the make up too.
Can we get a vid on sewer king from btas?
It's the super mario SUPER show
This is Lord-Taylor’s erasure
What you showing me c'mon!
This version needed a monocle
