Honestly one of the things I love about this iteration of Riddler is that he is legitimately smart, rather than deluded or 'just book smart'
That and he is charming as well even as a Villain he is still charming and socially awkward but now he wants to put on a show
My favourite part is that it's not Jim Carey. I like Jim, but he was way too much.
He was smart. Then bad writing happened in the last few seasons. Now he's... Mentally incompetent, to be polite about it.

Goofy as he can be, I love this version of Riddler. Cory Michael Smith nailed both the theatricality, brilliance, awkwardness, and thorough meticulousness of the Riddler, as well as his look and mannerisms.
I like how, when he does the "I am a villain" type of voice, it feels like how an awkward guy would imagine a villain/monster would talk. It feels forced and sorta silly, but it makes sense. If someone talks like that to me I'm going to laugh. And die, probably.
To be fair, Riddler is an extremely goofy villain. Although he's also able to be menacing he's just objectively goofy. "Solve my puzzles or people die" menacing and goofy is the perfect way to describe Riddler

I'll never forget scenes like him menacenly talking with his jaw while spiting, smiling while dramatically putting his coconut hat or getting mad screaming "no... NO!".
Its an achievement since even the TAS team didnt know what to do with him.
I couldn’t disagree with you more on his wardrobe. To me, it’s the Riddler suit. Perfected.
The best Riddler, Penguin, Alfred, and Jim Gordon in my opinion. These guys deserve more credit for the performances they put on this show.

The Riddler is one of the greatest examples of “What differs a supervillain from a villain is presentation.” You know that he doesn't have actual super powers, most of the time doesn't even have resources or gangs to commit big crimes, but something about him tells you that he just can't be stopped by regular people. You know he'd always find a way to escape the asylum and start preparing for his next personal ego show.

Riddler and penguin were the highlight of this show so was jerome when he showed up especialy after oofing his mom and doing the televised event telling us that no matter how many times the joker dies there will always be another that looks up to his goals
Jerome was boring and stupid and overrated just like his comics counterpart.

The riddler was actually what got me into Gotham because i had no interest in a younger Bruce wayne story. The riddler was very charming, mysterious and socially awkward exactly who I imagined him to be. Besides the Riddler it was Jeremiah that kept me watching the show I loved seeing his slow decent into madness it was a nice change of pace from the usual Joker brand of madness
you know i felt that way too, but if you look at the series, its about gotham, not just bruce, but the villains too, its a story about the city and how it feels like it has a life of its own etc. but i dont blame you, any show that deals with the past one automatically assumes its a origin story, the funny thing is it is, but not just for bats.

All the Villains in Gotham were brilliant. Gotham was a criminally underrated show. Yes it was messy, with a rough first season, but still fun with solid acting, great world building and some of the best Gotham villain portrayals around.

Joker, Riddler, and Penguin were always the big three Batman villains to me. This show did all three incredibly well.
Too bad they wasted the other rogues.
@Zemo X2 mostly yeah, but at past Hatter, Strange, Pyg, Ra's, and the Court had something to do.
For me it's Joker, deathstroke, and Bane.

The Riddler is my all-time favourite Batman villain and honestly in my opinion the Arkham games have the best depiction of The Riddler outside the comics. Wally Wingert who voiced the character in all 4 games always delivered such an incredible performance that always managed to perfectly capture Riddler's obsessive personality, massive ego and superiority complex. Whenever I read comics with Riddler it's Wally's voice I hear in my head.
Riddler in the Arrkham games was dumb and barely in it. To say he was the “best” version of the character is absurd.

An extra 5 min boss fight you only get after collecting all 200 trophies that had ZERO impact on the game and I’d bet most players didn’t do, and the “actor” only said one of maybe 4 different lines every time you collected a trophy. The lines were basically variations of “Oh fudge, how do you keep solving these puzzles!” Yeah, that was some heavy duty “characterization” and “acting.”

Dude Hugo Strange character on Gotham was pretty good. The Riddler was one of my favorite characters from Gotham.
Hugo was creepier in my opinion because he was on Oz as a priest and therapist in law and order
he looked so creepily similar to the comics
B.D. Wong was brilliant. He's a seriously underrated actor. Dude deserves some bigger roles.

This is hands down THE Riddler of a lifetime. I loved him as the socially awkward guy at the GCPD, loved that his downward spiral into such a comical character was very believable, loved him as The Penguin's friend and love interest (that subplot was truly something else), and loved him after he chilled down a bit and just did his own thing. He was perfect to contrast The Penguin who's always evolving in the show; once his true colors showed, The Riddler never tries to change, didn't even have the capacity to imagine it despite his smarts, because some vain part of him insists that he's already better than everybody else. And in some aspects, he was. Whenever he had the chance to flex his intelligence, I always think the GCPD and Gordon in particular must really rue the day such a good pair of hands chose the darker path.
Cory Smith brought a new type of crazy to the character. Excellent casting.
i agree, the whole dual personality shtick was a bit weird, but then i realized it wasnt so much a dual personality but him going through a transition and the only way he could cope was by talking to himself seeing as he thinks hes the smartest person in the world. i mean there are a lot of undertones with that but yeah, in execution it was done well and in the end we didnt get it as much when the final episodes came about
That could've been a smoother way to implement the dual personality. Instead of just "his darker psyche" like Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, this other him forms as a result of him having no one else around him on his mental level and feeling so psychologically tortured by this, he essentially created the only person who could match him; Himself.
By far my favorite Riddler. The first Edward Nigma who could be taken seriously.
And I love the Jim Carrey Edward Nashton homage with his hair when he's been in Arkham Asylum for a year
To be honest I really liked his outfit in his show, it just feels like the riddler to me. Especially in the finale when he had the question mark trench coat.
I think everyone was cast perfectly in this show. Especialy bruce, that boy really grew up into this role and his acting got progressively better each season up until he freaked me out when going between Bruce and his clone in literally a change of a line, HOW DID HE DO THAT!?

Jim's interactions with all the villains satisfied many fans who missed Batman's dynamic with them, where everyone wants to kill him. Especially with the Penguin. These two were nemesis.
I was blown away with how perfectly cast the Riddler was when I first started watching the show
The relationship between Riddler and Penguin on Gotham was one of my favourite things related to Batman full stop. Cory Michael Smith's acting and the writers ability to balance the cheesiness we all associate with the Riddler with a more serious darker toned criminal was absolute perfection

Same here, I started to rewatch it again and I'm enjoying it. The writing is a little messy sometimes but not in a bad way. If I can say anything the actors definitely play their parts so well and Penguin carries the show for me, Riddler too.
gotham was honestly a great series, i loved it and it'll always have a special place in my heart

Cory Michael Smith, as the riddler, was my favourite cast member of Gotham. The show was always more fun whenever he was on screen!
my personal favorite Riddler is the version from Batman: Unburied. I think the Riddler is at his most interesting when he skirts the line between hero and villain, similar to Catwoman. It opens up a lot of storytelling possibilities when he can act as an ally to Bruce, and keeps him from playing second fiddle to The Joker.

Yeah I can't help but feel you just explained this whole show in a nutshell with just that sentence alone, I mean in the first few seasons it was quite possibly the best show on TV let alone the Batman mythos but as it got closer to the finish... Decay started to set in (Postmortem)

Riddler's outfit - especially around Season 4 & 5 - is one of my favourites.
The black shirt works better than the white one, I reckon. Makes the green pop more in an ominous sense.
I actually really like the two Nygma persona transition. I couldn’t see this version of Nygma go into crime so easily after having been against it for so long.
They did it kind of like how Star Wars did it, where the protagonist, Anakin, was slowly more and more tipping away from the good side; but he did not make a full switch until the very very last second.
I like also that the two personality thing is temporary, purely meant to be the transition between Nygma to The Riddler.

I would have to say the Scarecrow was good, too. Ik he didn't get as much screen time as Ed Nigma but this show was so well done all around.
Such a great show, best riddler to this date, best hatter, penguin, Gordon, just mostly everyone did a great job with their characters.

@kwayneboy1524 it's my favourite show mate. I don't knowhow you can say that when it is a show that us so close to my heart. And many other hearts. It had the best live action Joker, best live action Bruce Wayne, best live action Riddler, best live action Penguin, Jim Gordon, Bullock, etc.
Not to mention...the best dressed in Gotham. I love the bowler hat. SO MUCH.
To be honest, I loved the outfit. I felt it really fit a darker tone in live action. The green suit seemed to fit well imo

I would be interested in part 2 with Vee dissecting the interaction/story line that occurs in the later seasons of the series between Riddle and Penguin. Although their story was fleshed out, it felt like it was more a filler story (C plot if you will) so they had something to do versus being apart of the overall show arc or narrative at that point.

Gotham was so good dude I try to tell everyone to watch it but they never do.
I love this show. It might be my all time favourite Batman show. The actors were so well casted, the stories were gripping, the character development was phenomenal & I just wish there was more. I wished they continued with a full on Batman show, we saw the prequel, the events leading up to Batman but it would of been so good seeing it go further than that.
I honestly loved the two personalities. I felt this added to how one half of him is a great kind person while the other is this evil and feels the need to show off. This also was true to the comics because Edward Nygma did have a split psyche.
I think this type of Riddler could have worked in The Batman if they had the right actor. It's the type of Riddler I would have preferred.
Frank Gorshin will always be the best Riddler,he took a villain who was rarely used in the comics and considered second rate and made the Riddler popular,no actor afterward could say that.
I grew up with the cartoons and only started getting into cartoons a few years ago so there’s a lot I still don’t know/haven’t read but Gotham’s Penguin and Riddler feel like the most authentic versions of the characters I’ve seen. I know it’s unlikely but I hope we get to see them played by these actors on the big screen some day

1:16, I don’t think that’s entirely fair to Frank Gorshin given that the Riddler had a grand total of three comic book appearances at the time (with the last of them being over a decade after the first two) but Gorshin’s version of The Riddler (as I understand it) popularized the character even in the comics.

Hey I really wouls enjoy a video about gothams scarecrow or the mad hatter. Specially the mad hatter, because it is something with this character. My favourite interpretation of jarvis tetch came from the animated series. With the gotham one it is like, i loved him as a villain, but i didnt really like him as a mad hatter. Would love to hear, what you think about him
