My hair thrived on hair grease and water only when I first went natural but one look at RUclips videos about growing it long hair and I ditched it for high priced products and methods that take a month to complete 🙄 I am back to the basics and simplicity and my hair has never been better. i keep my hair in three styles only (twists, cornrows and mini braids) I shampoo and condition, deep condition and protein treatment when needed and trim when needed, my styles last 3-4 weeks. I also PRAY over my hair and keep God first, some people think it’s weird but God gave me my hair, so it makes sense to grow it for His Glory too and keep Him at the center of my desire to grow it long. Prayer, patience and a little hair grease. Lol I’m shoulder length moving towards armpit and my ultimate goal is waist length or longer so I can prove to people in my family that black hair CAN and DOES grow!

@Princess Kee I'm "old school" and I got caught up in trying alot of things I've seen on RUclips and nothing seem to work or change my hair. Luckily it didn't fall out but it didn't change in length either. But when I went back to just grease and water it started growing! So I've gone back to this because it always worked when I was younger and it still does now.

Braid that shit up, re-braid once every month/2 months or so, keep that up for about a year and boom, you'll see your hair grew like weeds.

For me, my hair is quite fine so I focus more on minimizing manipulation and maximizing moisture retention. I did a lot of trial and error but honestly I think I’ve found it. I've spent so much money buying every product I would see the 'hair gurus' using, hoping and praying it would grow my hair. But nope. But after watching you, curlyproverbs and sherea, I have finally been able to create a hair regimen where I am FINALLY retaining hair growth. My hair regimen is much more simpler now. It took me 12 years to finally figure out what works best for ME. Now I am more confident than ever that I will finally reach my hair goals ☺️

For washing and styling some people could use 3-5 products for the whole wash day, or some people could use 10 products in total. It all depends on your own her and what you think you need for your hair. For me I just shampoo and deep condition and then use the same TGIN cream she used to do twist and keep them in for weeks and do it all over again. The key thing to remember is that there is a lot of trial and error in the beginning to figure out what works best for you.

To be honest. You are the first natural hair influencer that I have encountered that spoke nothing but the truth. When I started my natural hair journey I was a product junkie. Some worked and some cause breakage. I had to start over a few times.😢. But what I can definitely say I have learnt is LESS IS MORE. Not just with your hair but life in general. It’s the same thing with weight loss and skin care. Keep it simple. Just find what works and stick to that. And most importantly just be patient and trust the process. There will be ups and downs and sets backs . But if you stick to your routine we will all see results. You’ve gain a new sub. Keep doing what you doing. ❤❤❤

I'm going to be honest, I'm from India and I think the vast majority of these treatments-oil, rice water, egg, mayonnaise, etc, etc-come from India and China because people here tend to have long hair.
the truth is we're just hairy. we're really fucking hairy. I'm hairy everywhere, my legs look like the amazon. my hair has been long and thick my whole life (it's brushing the top of my thighs now) and I haven't done ANYTHING TO IT. I learnt how to style my waves but that's it. every Indian girl I know with nice hair leaves it the fuck alone. the ones who are obsessed with these treatments have scalp issues. people need to realise these eggs/homemade stuff dates back to a time where we couldn't afford shampoo and conditioner, and a lot of Indian people still can't. this isn't some magic secret, it's just genetics, and cultural practices that aren't any more effective than regular shampoos and conditioner and people who say they are are just trying to sell shit.

My daughter is 14 and she’s been natural all her life but I struggled trying to take care of it but last year I asked my cousin what can I do to her hair so she can wear her natural curls she told me hair grease and a little gel. She told me to twist her hair and that’s what I’ve been doing and her hair has grown so much. I hardly put any heat in it but hair grease saved her hair cause it’s the only thing that will moisturize her hair.
As for my hair I’m transitioning and all I do is grease my scalp. I can’t wait for it to grow so I can twist it. I do comb my hair every day because I don’t want my hair to be matted because I sweat in it everyday day. I’ve enjoyed learning about what works and what doesn’t.

Hair porosity matters! It puts you on the right track once you learn about it. My wash day is once weekly and I may moisturize it in between. I gotta do it. I’m low porosity and my scalp will itch if I don’t AND I’m prone to dryness FAST. But hey that’s my hair and I do what works for it with no store bought products (I make my own products). Your leave ins have water in there, so you're good. You're just doing the sealing and the conditioning all in one step, you know your hair, that's great. 🙌 When I first transitioned, I did bantu knots every night to keep the ends curled, I could do that with just leave in. Then I think had to use butter (or something) to do a twist out, wear that for two days, moisturize with water and twisting butter and did a flat twist protective style for the next four days. I grew out of the awkward phase pretty quick and then started doing primarily wash and goes. Yes, I prepooed, washed, deep conditioned, and styled once a week. I now do once a fortnight cause I got tired. I do mini twists about three times a year. My hair went from about neck length to the longest point being midback length in about 3 1/2 years. I practically dropped all commercial products and started making my own. Recently I made a hair pomade/grease and that's been working great for my twist outs. 👍 So I can attest low manipulation is pretty key.

My scalp gets itchy really quickly so the longest I wait to wash my hair is 2-3 weeks but ideally I wash weekly

My hair used to be dry, crunchy, and falling out of my head no matter how much water, leave in conditioner, or oils and butters I put in my head.
I was so confused as to why nothing was working for a long time until I found your channel. I bought the TGIN and gro therapy grease, twisted my hair, put it in a bonnet, and LEFT IT ALONE.
Now, my curls are moisturized and have shape, and overall my hair feels healthier by just letting it do its thing. I probably had some hair growth but tbh I don't even pay attention anymore.
If there was one thing to take from this video and this channel overall is to stop trying these quick shortcuts and trust the process, trust your hair.
Thank you Natural Academia for keeping it real ❤

Water is alkaline, it opens the cuticle, only water is a no no for everyone!

U just said a mouth full. I've been natural 9 years, and MY hair does better when I just leave it the hell ALONE! I make my own oils, in my kitchen and just take care of it based on how I'm feeling & how busy my life is!!

I wash my hair once a week 🥺 my scalp gets very itchy though if I don't + I go to the gym so my scalp sweats and it's needed. I enjoy the feeling of my hair being clean though

You can definitely use water to moisturize your hair, BUT it is not going to work without a sealer. You need a type of sealer whether your choice is grease, oil, gel, etc. Anything that will seal the water inside your hair. Also, it is better to use filtered water. Water from faucets, depending on your region, can be harsh because of hard water. Hard water will definitely give you crunchy hair over time due to the build up it will create on your the surface of your hair.

You're right! Low manipulation IS the key for hair growth for me too. I color, wash, and deep condition my hair once a month. I twist it in sections and then wear my wig and wig pieces as protective styles and its grown like wild fire. I think by the spring or summer of 2022, I'll be able to rock my actual, natural hair with confidence.
