    I love that I'm seeing a South African talking about growing their hair. When i talk about hair growth a lot of my South African friends think that achieving long hair is more possible if you are of sub saharan, west african descent. When it really mostly has to do with how you take care of your hair

      I wonder why people don’t think they’re related. Whatever happened to a thing called the Bantu Migration. I’m East African and bantu. We’re literally related. I’ve even heard a South African song (I’m not sure of the specific language) but it sounded like some Swahili words

    This was such an easy to understand,simplified and insightful video which I think was very necessary. I’ve struggled with my hair being at the same length for over 5+years now and I think most of it has been attributed to breakage. I now want to reinvest time and care into my hair and see if I can retain length. My Hair goal is to reach Waist length and I’ll be a Happy girl 🤞🏾🤞🏾.

      I love your hair, your teaching are explicit, your approach is assuring and feedbacks to your followers are encouraging. I'd always loved my natural hair though it's not growing the way I wanted. Anytime I complain about it, the response I usually get is what do you want to do with long hair at 48. It will be a thing of joy for me, if you can help me through this challenge. I'm ready to follow and obey your instructions. Thank God I found you and your channel. God bless you.

    Ever since I’ve become natural 5 years ago I love putting my hair on protective styles especially on the winter seasons . I wash my hair and put it up for 1 week until I wash it again and do the same thing .. in the summer time I love to wash my hair and put oils and put my hair up in a bun that’s my other protective style looks chic and clean . @sae_chim110 3 месяца назад +1

      @@martasalvi8152 Over manipulating your hair is when you're constantly touching your hair without giving it an opportunity to breathe. An example of this is constantly combing and styling your hair. As Zinhle said, it stresses your hair which eventually leads to breakage so the less you manipulate your hair, the better.

I play my hair and leave it alone I put oils like coconut oil castor rosemary oil .. and recently I started to put wild growth oils . I must say it’s very good and my hair seems to love it 😃 normally am a curly hair girl so I love wash and goes .. I never straighten my hair every since natural it’s coming to 5 years now PRAISE GOD 🙏😃 so thank you for that explanation 😃 much appreciated 🙏

    I chopped all my hair off to about 1/4 of an inch, back in 2015, and over these 9 years, I haven't had as much growth as I thought I should have. I wore wigs constantly in the first 3 years. Year 4, I finally got about 4 inches of hair, so I started with constant hair extensions. Here we are in 2024, and I have 7 inches of hair. What happened???? Now I'm loc'd I'll see what happens. Maybe my growth will accelerate.

      All this time, your hair wanted to fully embraced as it was, as much as you had and have the capacity to do so. Finally your intuition led you to make a shift and loc it because the hair would have a greater chance to be embraced in its natural state without being covered or intertwined with anything else.
      Natural hair is spiritual and it loves to interact with nature. This is yet another example of that and it’s something I’ll always be explaining and dissecting in future videos. I hope you understand the gist of my response 🤍🙏🏾

      Hair does not grow faster with locs.
      With locs, your hair will grow at its usual natural rate of growth. However, you should expect to RETAIN the length that grows by the locking of your usual natural hair growth.

      Hey Sbahle ❤️ The good news is that you are on the right track - there’s nothing wrong with keeping a protective style in for 5 months (as long as it isn’t tight or heavy). Hair shedding is normal but if you feel like it was too much hair coming out then there were errors in your product or routine.
      I suspect that your main issue is moisture (moisturise more often, with the right products). Please watch my protective style challenge video for more info:

    • @zinhle.africa
      @zinhle.africa  2 месяца назад +3

      Hey hun, we can reduce the amount of fairy knots but we can’t get rid of them completely. You can do a fresh trim and the next day there will be new ones coming in, it’s the nature of our hair because it curls and shrinks back into itself in all directions.
      You can do a light dusting and then keep your hair stretched most of the time and protect your ends. The less you let shrinkage take over, the less fairy knots you’ll get.
      I hope this makes sense 🫶🏽

    In the past I only wore mini twists and saw lots of retention from leaving it alone. now I want to try also wearing low manipulation styles (high puff, twist out etc)
    If I wear these styles, I'm confused how to style them at night. I feel like twisting my hair every night and undoing them/combing it each morning is over manipulation and will cause breakage

    Firstly,
    6:10, 9:01 thank you for your explanations so far.
    i discovered in May this year that my hair loves alovera...so i began using it every week until July...i wasn't consistent in August. But i decided to be serious again this September.
    ❓Do you recommend that i increase it to twice weekly?
    I Eat very healthy, exercise weekly, but i need to work on moisturizing my ends with thick butters, and moisturizing weekly...
    I always put my hair in protective styles of medium sized twists, but i really need to work on ALWAYS Tucking my hair in while it's twisted.
    And ALWAYS wearing bonnets.
    Thank you so much

    How can I actually know my hair porosity? I don’t think the water float test is accurate. One time my hair sank to the bottom, another time it didn’t. My hair gets dry very easily, i moisturise with warm water, leave in and oil in the morning but at night it looks frizzy, “rough” and feels dry like I didn’t moisturise in the morning. I have noticed that my hair averagely feels “rough” and looses moisture quite easily. What would you recommend

    • @lola8558
      @lola8558 3 месяца назад +6

      Hi, this isn’t a very common answer but personally I wouldn’t stress so much about figuring out the porosity of your hair. I’d convinced myself my hair was low porosity as it took time to fully saturate in water, but realised that could just be because of product build up. Besides that, I keep seeing different characteristics of high, low and mid porosity (the last one is very often forgotten about). Not to mention, your hair porosity can actually change e.g. can display high porosity characteristics due to damage from heat etc, and different portions of your head can have different porosities. I also saw a trichologist (hair specialist) recently who said that it’s actually very uncommon for one individual hair strand to be just one type of porosity itself, because the roots will be much healthier and retain moisture better as it is fresh, but damage and wear and tear on the length and roots of the hair over time tend to be higher in porosity, because even if you’ve cared well for your hair, over time the hair is susceptible to having more cracks in the hair cuticle. Learning this kinda solidified what I’ve learnt over time as I’ve driven myself crazy trying to work out my porosity, which is not to stress/ focus so much on that, but to try different things and listen to your hair; see how it responds to how you care for it and try to decipher what it needs. For me, I used to use leave in conditioner and seal with a light moisture butter and/ or oil, but unless its a lightweight, formulated oil like Olaplex, my hair absolutely hates raw oils as it makes it extremely dry (despite oil supposedly helping to seal in moisture, it just wouldn’t allow any water into my hair afterwards and made it so rough). So now I just use a leave in and moisture butter and, for weekly washes, my hair holds moisture just fine and if anything I would top up with a lightweight leave in spray. My hair could be high in porosity, or it could be that my strands are fine so it doesn’t like raw oils because even the most lightweight of them is still heavy. It’s much easier to feel better about knowing your porosity so you know the ‘right steps’ to follow, but honestly just listening to my hair is the best thing that’s helped me although i am still on a journey. I know this is long but I hope it helps in any way

    • @zinhle.africa

      Hey hun, first let’s with the dryness. A lot of problems come from DRYNESS. Research on moisture training (you’re going to be dramatic at first to get your hair right and then find a less intense routine after).
      Focus on LCO. Liquid is water. Cream is a moisturiser, then even a butter. Then follow with castor oil (black or golden castor oil)
      When it comes to protective hairstyling, you’re not doing it enough, keep the hair in a style at least for 1 month, even 2 if you can. As long as the hair isn’t in a tight and heavy hairstyle it’s breathing don’t worry about that.

      I’m getting a lot of comments similar to yours so I’ll be doing a full video on this but for now what I can advise is that you prioritise moisture - are you happy with your products? and how often are moisturising?

    So is it that we shouldn't use combs on your hair anymore? and also, how often in a week should one moisturize? I ask this because i use avocado butter and clove water as my hair products and i think i overmanipulate.

    • @zinhle.africa
      @zinhle.africa  4 месяца назад +6

      Whether you use combs or not is up to how your hair responds to them, what technique is used and what you prefer. I would advise you to experiment with both and see what works for you. Mostly finger detangling and then combining towards the end of the detangled section is a good place to start. 🤍🙏🏾 I’ll do my best to post a more detailed video on this very soon

    Please how can one eradicate lice and nits from hair totally..

    • @zinhle.africa
      @zinhle.africa  4 месяца назад +1

      Prioritise the use of oils in your hair, the lice and nits have a hard time holding onto the hair strand when it’s well lubricated. Do hot oil treatments and seal with oils when you moisturise, but wash the hair more regularly (with a lice comb) to get them completely out)
      This is what I have always known to be the solution but I’ve never put it to the test, please let me know how it goes.

      Hey hun, the trick is to not let it get too dry, if it gets really dry after 3 days, then moisturise every 2nd or 3rd day.
      Every one’s hair is different and we’re all using different products so there isn’t one answer to this, you just have to pay attention to your hair and then a routine from there 🫶🏽

    Hi. I have relaxed hair but i wanna stop relaxing and go natural at the same time i dont wanna cut my hair😩🤧 whats hard for me is that i feel like my hair has been stuck for more than 12/15 years, ive always had long hair but there hasn't really been much improvement and its heartbreaking. Any advise on where to start and which products to use?

    • @zinhle.africa
      @zinhle.africa  2 месяца назад +2

      Hey hun, the 2 textures will get on your nerves so the best option is to do protective hairstyles (and leave them in at least for a month) in that time just focus on moisturising your hair and scalp. Until you’re ready to cut off the relaxed hair.
      If you’re subscribed you’ll see a lot of product recommendations coming and posted already but I don’t want to overwhelm you. Just buy what you like, the most important thing is be consistent in moisture in protective hairstyle. ☺️

      The problem with relaxing is not only that is weakens and kinda eats at your strands but messes up your scalp health. So it’s good to stop asap.
