- Hi Everyone
Here is a short video that I cut from a live feed, showing the process of upgrading an Original Xbox to a Pentium III 1.4GHz CPU.
I hope you enjoy!
Very cool! Not many folks out there have the tools and know how to undergo this process. I'm glad to see it's still being done.
I have a 1.4ghz motherboard, but I didn't build it myself. My bga rework days are kind of behind me. But I do love to reminisce.
Keep up the good work!
i want to become a pro soldering master too
That CPU upgrade with the new 256MB of RAM upgrade combo would be a OG XBox gamer's dream.
Thing is most games arent designed to use all the ram or even cpu power. You need patched versions of the games if it exist. Great for emulators though and a massive boost in street cred.
Cool video all round, showing us how its done to a badass soundtrack
Awesome work, i had no idea how involved a process this is. Also, where is the excellent music from?
This is way too extreme for me. I wanted to do this but ended up just upgrading the ram. And i built a retro PC instead with that Pentium 3 CPU along with a Geforce 4.
With that mod? Do you have to patch every game? And does the original dash work? I wonder if you can still play games off of discs with this mod.
This is insane! I wanna learn this :)
...often imitated, never duplicated....
Any chance there’s a published BOM for the parts and swaps required? Also, if you were to do, say 25 of these wouldn’t it be pretty cost effective to contract the Interposer pop and ball for a drop in after removing the stock CPU?
Last, are you using SNPB for the balling and CGA soldering?

@@aceconsolerepairs Thank you very much! I really appreciate the link!
Excellent work, both on the unit and the video!
Love the music Ace
does C34 on everyboard mean the same thing?? i have a ffb racing wheel where my c34 lil orangy thingy blew up or got knocked off. i cant figure anything out about how to get another one so i can fix it
Dude that’s some dedication
honestly, an understatement....lol
@@buggerlugz6753 Yeah like I couldn't even imagine trying to solder a socket onto a board like that. idk how you'd even solder something like that with so many pins and most of them are in center with other pins in the way. Machines specifically made for that pinout can do it in a flash but doing it individually blows my mind. People always say it's almost impossible to replace a ruined mobo socket without sending it to somewhere with the machine but this dude proves them wrong, just damn I don't think I got the patience. It so easily could just become junk with even the tiniest mistake.
Awesome! I see that you didn't populate the points on the interposer above the CPU. Are they all part of the optional performance limiter circuit?
Yeah it’s not needed nowadays, you just patch the hdd/games to suit the CPU
Very good video, learned a lot of useful things
Nice work !
How did you add the custom logo at startup ? Fileextension and placement would be appreciated ! Thx from belgium
It’s done with the Cerbios.ini and files. It’s a custom xmv added to the xmv player folder and direct cerbios to use it as a default boot anim
@@aceconsolerepairs
Thx !
Love the videos 👌
what did you use to align your beads?
I swear the music in the background sounds like sonic music haha
I have a question but do you know anything about the power button for Xbox?
Where does the interposers could be got? 😮 Amazing job!
Amazing job
How much are you charging to do this mod because I'm very interested in having it done to My 1.4 with that I have 128 MB RAM installed.
I have premodded units available only at the moment. $999-$1800
Beautiful work bro
I think it was asked already but how much would it cost for you to install on my 1.6 board and do you install the ram upgrade as well

All the options are there
@@aceconsolerepairs can i ask why its nearly $650 to do CPU and do you think i could pay in Winnie Blues and VB?
Not sure mate!
@@aceconsolerepairs also if i wanted to get the ram and the cpu done at the same time could you do a discount?
So you need the adapted interposer board right? Is Aaron selling these already?
Yes the interposer is an essential component. I’ve no idea who Aaron is

Mad lad
Wow, great job
Ok being a newbie what is the main advantages of this mod? Do games actually perform better?
Bragging rights!
@@aceconsolerepairs seems like a lot of work for bragging rights 🤷♂️
@@chadstudd1616 you pay ppl like me to do the work though,so you have the bragging rights. There’s no “work” for the buyer
It's a socketable cpu so why isn't the interposer just a zif socket?
Because the BGA array underneath is an PGA2 and the PIII is socket 370. Other modders have installed a zif on top of the interposer. I dont see any advantage of doing so.
Does upgrading Cpu lower the Temprature and give higher fps?or something else?
It makes it run hotter, not cooler. But it can increase the performance of a lot of games like Half Life 2. But the problem is that it breaks some games completely as well. Some games were designed to run with the exact frequency of the CPU, and when it goes any faster it also speeds the game up to an unplayable degree, like watching a movie on 4x fast forward.
what size solder bead is this
Fuck1ng Amazing!!!
dont forget to use a sample interposer for aligment
will this upgrade work on a Pentium III-S or only on the Pentium III ?
The PIII-S Tualatin is what is used
Thank you. @@aceconsolerepairs
What's the performance boost? Better loading times?
Homebrew benefits the most
Why don't people make a socket for the cpu?
When do we get to see comparison videos of game performance?
Where do you buys these chips
eBay usually for the CPU
Imagine getting to the end of the video and he said “it didn’t work”
Do you sell this in some web page? Like amazon? Im from Mexico and I would like to buy one...

Hello. Please tell me how much you set the resistor R2E10?
330ohm
You can find all the vcore mods here
github.com/ACE-AU
@@aceconsolerepairs I followed n64freak's instructions and did everything correctly. I watched your video on v1.4, I don’t know why there’s so much to do when you can just replace R2E8 1kOhm with 1.5kOhm. Everything works as it should
@@Смайлик-ч7с yeah n64’s isn’t as in depth and adjustable for the v-core. Up to you how you want to go about it
@@aceconsolerepairs Hello. But when installing Stellar and a 1400 MHz processor, what should you do with the FB4N1 resistor on version 1.4?
But... Did any game work?
Yes games work fine when patched for the CPU upgrade
Like
Im 43 with bad eyesight dont think i could do these kinds of things anymore
what the fuck is the shopping list for all these diodes I have to get to populate this interposer board?
im only here for the music
Quien puede aser este trabajo y cuanto costaría
I can do it if you’re in Australia
Without that shitty music, I might have watched this.
fixed!...speedy roboAce!
🤪
Hey wacked
damn i want one
Cool stuff but 1000USD for such console ? That is a bit of an absurd price.
Where does it say USD?? I am in Australia 👍🏻
@@aceconsolerepairsI overlooked that, but the comment remains valid at 650USD ish. That remains a OG Xbox, compared to the prices of the modern xbox hmmm. But hey it is still a very cool tweak.
I challenge you to find the same cheaper :)
