    I think your overall assessment makes sense. For the money an S5II or IIx is hard to beat. My only question relates to the mention of internal ND for the upcoming S1H II. Has anyone in the stills-format hybrid camera space been able to include internal ND? I would certainly love to have the option, but to date it’s only small cine bodies like the FX6 and C70 (and up) which include that feature, so I’m not expecting Panasonic to shoehorn ND into a future S1 body which is a lot smaller.

    • @OBP_
      @OBP_  Год назад +1

      I guess my thinking is that the S1H feels not far of the size of, say, a blackmagic pocket or C70. So could it be possible? I remember the S1H being one of the first mirrorless cameras to add an internal fan to prevent overheating, and with the H being the one for video users 🤞thanks for commenting as always 🙌

    • @heroaomedia
      @heroaomedia Год назад +1

      main challenge is internal ND plus mirrorless plus IBIS. No one has figured that out yet...

    • @waveland
      @waveland Год назад +1

      @@OBP_ I’ve not worked with the C70, but from what I’ve seen it’s a lot more bulked up than a mirrorless stills body. And in the BMPCC 6K Pro they have loads of room between the flange and the sensor because EF was originally designed to accommodate a mirror and prism. I would guess that eventually a company will miniaturize the variable ND system from a camera like the FX6, though you have to keep in mind, and ND like that requires a constant electrical current which would definitely impact battery life.

    I own both. My S1H is my A cam. I’d pick it for cinema work 9/10 times. The screen, OLPF, the size are all winners for me. I love the s5iix, and it pretty much is b cam and gimbal.
    On set, the autofocus isn’t a game changer. I can get an AC and I can pull better than the AF does for my storytelling.
    If I can just get Panasonic to get me a global shutter box S1H2 I’d be good to go.

    • @burgeroraclefilmco
      @burgeroraclefilmco 10 месяцев назад

      @@creativegreatsvisuals The S1H has an OLPF and the S5II (x) does not. The image quality with the OLPF is preferable - its a little softer (less digital looking) and there's no moire issues like we've experienced with the S5II.

  • @heroaomedia
    @heroaomedia Год назад +18

    Major difference here is the OLPF - and this could have been tested with a moire test. Other than that though, the S5iix is winner in every other area.

    • @OBP_
      @OBP_  Год назад +2

      Yeah, I was aware of this. My thinking was that it would show on the lens chart toward the centre as the lines got closer and finer, but in the footage, I did not see a difference, as you can see. But maybe in another situation, it would show 🤔

    I’ve shot the S1H and S5iiX side by side on multiple events. The OLPF in the S1H accounts for the noticeable difference in sharpness, which also means I’ve never seen moiré on the S1H (haven’t seen it yet on the S5iiX yet either but others have). The thing I LOVE about the S5iiX is open gate in 25fps. The S1H doesn’t offer PAL frame rates in OG 🧐

    You review is so on point, I own Lumix S1H, S1, S5II, GH5s, GH5(Broken), I'll never Sell any of them to buy another, I bought Sony A7Siii (it still have time when it shines) before S5II came out, I hardly use it now with S5iii out.
    Panasonic color science is amazing, also the in body stabilization best in the industry, you can get B-Raw with Blackmagic Video assist monitor, and Prores-Raw with Atomos Ninja V/V+.
    Not even talk about the shutter angle Sony is so stingy about, Lumix have it and Vector Scope and more goodies.
    Panasonic really Spoiled us.
    With this new Phase detect Autofocus the camera is even more Amazing.

    Thanks for this, interesting video. I bought an S1 and the V-log upgrade used, which is actually a good deal if you just need a b-cam (as I did) or have manual lenses, less than half the price of an S5ii. With the upgrade it does basically everything the S1h does but without an OLPF. I will be very interested to see what the S1h mkii could bring if it ever comes out.

    Amazing video mate. As an S5 user, I will be upgrading to the S5iiX soon. There were 2 topics I wished you discussed though:
    1) The Autofocus (S1H Contrast Detect vs S5ii new Phase detect)
    2) The lowpass filter on the S1H that the S5ii doesn't have. I am plagued with moire during some scenarios when shooting with my S5.

    • @OBP_
      @OBP_  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the comment 🙏 I did try to do a moire test but could not get any of the cameras to show any, I guessed it was because I was shooting 6k/4k with the cameras not HD and just did not have the right type of clothes on hand. For AF, it's just not even comparable, really for me. It's as simple as the S5ii has useable AF for video, and the S1H is a manual focus video camera.

      @@kevinbillington9773 smart thinking - hoping they update it. I don't notice it since I use vintage glass but on the S1H there is definite sharpening in b-raw. I don't shoot internal just because of how it processes motion - can't stand it.

    I disagree with the battery runtime… i own both cameras and the battery live on the s1 and S1H is noticeable longer. Often I need just one battery change while a ten to twelve hour shooting. With the mark II on the other hand I need to swap the battery multiple times. Not a big deal but still something to consider in my opinion
