    It's refreshing to see some love for good 'old' gear. Quality is remembered long after the gimmicks of new cameras are forgotten.

    I have an S1H that I bought used a couple years back… same reasoning honestly. I explored flipping it to fund an S5IIX, but the S1H I think produces an objectively better image thanks to a couple factors including the OLPF. There’s no denying the X is a bit better all-rounder, but honestly if you don’t have/need AF, the S1H makes more sense. I’m REALLY hoping they do a BSIIH with an OLPF and the new AF tech, that would be an ideal camera for how I use my S1H currently. Internal ND in lieu of IBIS would be a cherry on top.

    With both an S1H and an S5IIX, I find myself reaching for the s5iix when I just need to capture, but the S1H is my a can on my projects. Outside of autofocus and the ProRes internal, it’s still a better camera.

    S1h is so underrated. I own both S1h and S5 II and for run and gun situations is better, lighter no doubt, but image coming from S1H is something different. Thanks to OLPF the quality of 1080p is so good, especialy on tighter lenses, so i dont need to deal with the crop.

    Do you think that filters can replicate the look of an OLPF? I've seen a lot of people say vintage glass and using filters ( or a bit of blur in post ) can replicate the s1h's image. I am currently trying to decide between the s5iix and the s1h but like you, I can clearly see a difference in the "cinematic-ness" of the s1h vs the s5iix footage. I also shoot a lot of photo so sadly, my decision may be made for me simply because of AF but I'm mainly a video shooter so naturally I want the best image lol

    • @MrRipley
      @MrRipley  9 месяцев назад +1

      I'm not too sure about that workaround. Personally, I prefer the image to closely resemble the finished product right out of the box. Occasionally, I do shoot at 1/8 BPM, and I absolutely adore the cinematic quality of this sensor. That's the primary factor I considered when making my decision, which, I must admit, was a bit confusing.
      In the time I've had this camera, I've used it for still photography only a handful of times, mostly in timelapse mode, which I thoroughly enjoy. I typically use manual lenses. So, I hope you can evaluate which system is the best fit for your needs. I personally believe that the S5iix would be the most suitable choice for you. PS would you subscribe for more videos like this?

    Hi I own 2 BMPCC4K,6K and 3 S5 org. I think the 6K produce the best image but recently I shoot prorresraw which I converted to CDNG to work in Resolve and I think that the S5 org has an image quality in pair with the BMPCC6K...I think the problem for S5 org is NR in camera and the codec long gop even alli is not as good as raw and not the low pass filter imho at lewst for thr image quality.
    I shoot on both camera with canon 24-105 F4 wich is a great lens for both camera.
    With raw footage from S5 is more organic less digital and with kind of raw grain...some people are saying that S5 org has better image that S5ii or iiX.
    LOPF are usually there to reduce moire and aliasing and thr result is a less digitally sharp image, correct me if I am wrong?
    Grat Vid

    I don't have the S1H, but I know of the S1H's low pass filter and the incredible EVF. The S5ii and S5iiX's EVF is low res compared to the S1H.

    Subscribed! I'm still saving for an S5iix. My S1R is already big and rugged, so I'm going for the smaller S5iix, but I'm a bargain-hunter so the S1H would definitely sway me if it became cheaper.

    0:54 The bit about the iphone is questionable to say the least. If you look at that footage, there is unmistakably so much of NR and sharpening halo and an utter lack of detail in general, just look at the stones on the hut or the shrubs or even the water. Video from even a second hand m50 for 200 euros creates a world of difference compared to an 1300 euro iphone pro in terms of quality. The sensor on the iphone simply doesn't cut it and no amount of AI, skill or post can make it look as good as even the cheapest micro 4/3 that does 4k video.
    That S1H footage however: ♥

      Heya, thanks so much for this comment! I do agree with most of what you're saying-yes, a very sharpened image, lots of NR, etc. However, the point I was trying to get across is the fact that most people will have a smartphone that is capable of capturing a 10-bit image. 'A powerful tool' making filmmaking a lot more accessible. The image of an iPhone will have its flaws, but there's no doubt it's a workable image that I lean on. Think about it. They've even shot Hollywood features. Talking all things S1H, thanks! Just you wait for the full films, would love for you to stay around :)

      @@livestreamsuk6004 Yeah seems every brand shifts either green or magenta like you said. Obviously it's not an easy fix for manufactures. I'll take the magenta over green any time. as @Nemastic has mentioned perfectly, Yes most brands will have a shift of some sort. 'Cough, SONY' Most LED lamps or HMI bulbs in big lighting fixtures. Hence - or + Gels. For my RUclips videos, I don't worry too much about it, otherwise id be pulling my hair out. I actually kinda lean into it, if anything.
