  • Dear Brother tells the journey of two brothers hiking the wide valleys and rugged mountains of the Scottish Highlands. A journey to the place of their youth, their home. Packed with a small bundle of cords and jute they keep on walking, until they arrive at the sea.

    I was ten years older than my younger brother, who has passed on now 20 years ago. Although he had 4 other older siblings, I spent most my time with him raising him and playing with him. It was extremely hard for him when I left to live on the other side of the country when he was only 9. He would often call on the phone crying, asking when I was coming home. I eventually did, and surprised him as I pulled up in my truck after a long journey cross country. I will never forget that hug he gave me and the look of love on his face, because his big brother was home again to take care of him. We made up for that time lost and more. The day he died I was with him having lunch, giving him the talk of how he should behave out in the real world and our mother backing me up with what I said. I drove him back to his apartment afterwards and all though we never said to eachother I love you, we just knew it. But that day, before he got out of that car by God's good graces, I said Chris buddy, I love you man, you know that right? He said love you to bro. That was the last I would see of him. He died that day on good friday in April, now being 20 years ago. I think of him often and my bothers and I always go to the pub on his birthday and pour him a glass of whiskey and ourselves and toast to him, a great young man that he was. One of the biggest funerals our town ever had , that goes to show what people thought of him. So Thank you for giving me a chance to dwell on the music and the bard that was reciting, , and the chance to remember a brothers love. Well done gentlemen well done.

    Walking the roads of our youth
    Through the land of our childhood, our home, and our truth
    Be near me, guide me, always stay beside me
    So I can be free
    Free
    Let’s roam this place, familiar and vast
    Our playground of green frames our past
    We were wanderers
    Never lost
    Always home
    When every place was fenceless
    And time was endless
    Our ways were always the same
    Calm my demons and walk with me, my brother
    Until our roads lead us away from each other
    And if your heart’s full of sorrow, keep walking
    Don’t rest
    And promise me from heart to chest to never let your memories die
    Never
    I will always be alive and by your side
    In your mind
    I’m free

    Monday makes six months since my big brother died. Every day still sucks without him. To anyone else in this comments section struggling with loss, just know that even though it doesn't feel right to say or hope it gets better, it begins to suck less and less as we carry them with us and move forward with them.

      +The Methodus I think it is "cull my demons"

    • @TheMethodus
      @TheMethodus 8 лет назад

      Makes sense kinda. Cull meaning to collect. I thought it was "calm" being to put them away so they could be together with no more negativity or something to that effect. But cull would fit better.

    • @postiepat1541
      @postiepat1541 7 лет назад

      Also works with the other definition of the word, cull the demons that are sort of also like a wild animal.
      Cull
      verb
      1. reduce the population of (a wild animal) by selective slaughter.

    I never, and I mean never, comment on RUclips videos, blog or post anything to social media. About 3 years ago I unexpectedly lost my older brother. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him and the time we had together as well as the time we lost. This may only just be an add to sell liquor but the message I get from this video is to love and celebrate your life. As things inevitably get taken from you it's important to keep moving forward. I love you, Bro.

      +Louis Louis He says "demons", but not in the literal sense - it's not about calling his actual evil spirits, but more metaphorically, like calling on all his short comings, his regrets, his mistakes, and his guilts. One brother would know the other brother's faults, but would support him no matter what. He's basically saying, " Even though you know my faults (demons), you and I will walk (support) each other while needed, because this is what brothers do." This is my interpretation anyways.
