Ed Olearczyk Well in that case, you are not fading and withering away dismally are you? If you still have passion for life and see the glory of the world, it doesn’t matter what age you pass on into the other world, does it?
First time I saw this commercial I bought me some of this whiskey and a hat and went out in the rain. It didn't seem as cool but this commercial still epic as fuck
I actually live in Tullamore, about 2 minutes from the Dew. Arden View I've lived for about 6 years. Great to see the Irish culture being represented on RUclips for once! And for anyone who's wondering the song's name, it's called The Parting Glass.

It's like bidding adieu to the bachelor days with a touch of nostalgia and a dash of excitement for what's to come. A scene set in the rain, a glass of fine whiskey, and camaraderie, really, what more could a man ask for? This is how you market your product. This is storytelling at its best!
I worked in advertising for over 30 years and can honestly say this is one of the best TV commercials I haveae ever seen. I immediately gets your involves you , tells a story with a twist in the end. It is a full story in 30 seconds. Plus you remember the name of the product. Best of all the product itself is outstanding....I know because the commercial made me try it! Until the appearance of the bride, you figure they are mourning a dead buddy. Then she shows up: Marriage as a metaphor for death. The thing is a celebration of the comradery of young men and the loss of that closeness as we age, marry and settle. They are simultaneously celebrating and mourning the marriage. I get that. Men never have friends and connections with other men like when they are young men. My fellow paratroopers and brothers-in-arms…sigh…we talk every couple years and see each other even less. The ad is an awesome, bittersweet commentary on the journey of manhood. The journey is what it is… and so it must be… raise a glass.
What's crazy is before I watched this commercial today, I was thinking of how as men, we never share that closeness we once did with another male friend like when we were youngsters running around, staying the night at one anothers place, etc. Great Comment brotha, and My Grandfather was 11th Airborne in Papau New Guinea WW II, and Uncles were both Airborne. HIS sons... 82nd, and 101st Vietnam era. Mind you my grandfather was from County Cork, Ireland first, but died a GOD FEARING, BLUE COLLAR AMERICAN in the end. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!! SLAINTE!
I had a very similar experience recently at my sister's wedding in which I was honored to be a groomsman. Before we all walked downstairs to wait on the bride we, being Kentuckians, passed around a bottle of Woodford and each took a swig in honor of our dear friend. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life
Historically accurate, as I recall the tales of my elders. This advertisement has taken me on a quest -- and located the church where my Great Gran "signed out" before coming to South Boston. Our entire tribe is sharing pictures and tales. Thank you so much.
As the 700th comment, I doubt there’s much more I can say that hasn’t been said already. I first watched this commercial as a kid, and even then I understood it was about the calm and stoic acceptance of change. Then comparing a wedding to a funeral wasn’t a complaint about marriage, it’s a statement that both are a change, for better or worse. The fact that a frickin whiskey commercial can bring up such introspective contemplation is admirable, and I’d love to see more ads with genuine heart like this. Glasses up lads and lasses 🥃
It isn't Ed Sheeran. It's the actor singing in the commercial. There is a recorded version of the whole song somewhere on the internet. It's just hard to find.
What a powerfully evocative effect this commercial has on me. For some reason this stirs up nostalgic emotions of times long since passed; of times that I've never experienced this lifetime. Must have lived before in Ireland once upon a time.
A bunch of Irish drinking whiskey in the cold rain,in beautifully green scenery.Who wouldn't want to be amongst them?Well done Tullamore for a superbly sentimental ad.
This commercial is the only one I have come to love. It brings back all my memories about Ireland; containing all emotions. And today 17/03/2017 it does its job very good.
this is such a random memory but i remember being younger and down with a horrible ear infection. my mother, being irish, gave me some hot tea and whiskey to help me go to sleep. i was up late and saw this commercial for the first time. we are a jameson family, but this will always be my favorite commercial and the only one i go back to search! somehow that week with that horrible ear infection is a very strong memory
Ha ha I’m back to watch this ad again and I’m having a Tullamore now. There is something about this ad.... the person who came up with this ad most definitely drinks it. The weather.....the beautiful stone....the sentimentality.......faithfulness......., bringing out emotions and truth.......acceptance.............not letting life stress us........and drinking a good whiskey with water. Subtle hints.......only a good whiskey drinker sees this 😉
I just love this ad & Tullamore is my favourite whiskey too. I loved the part where he tips the water in his hat into his glass. That is something I would have done lollll
By far my favorite version of Parting Glass. Per Tullamore Dew marketing manager, she said it is the actor in the commercial singing. No copies are available other than the commercial. Everyone in Ireland can sing
Saw this commercial last night and had to find it on RUclips to watch again. Love the song, love the feel of the whole ad. The rain, Ireland, the way they drink to their friend... I could watch this ad over and over.
I so love Ireland. Reminds me of my trips to Cashel, Blarney, Kinvarra and Liscannor. The friendliest people in the world. Dublin is incredible but do venture outside of Temple Bar to experience the true essence of Ireland.

To all those wondering its a traditional Scottish/Irish song sang at the end of gatherings with family and/or friends. Ed Sheeran does a beautiful version and it actually plays at the end of him first album.
This! I could watch over and over again.."Better pass boldly into that other world, in the full glory of some passion, than fade and wither dismally with age." I freaking love that quote. Great shit man.
Caught this commercial on RUclips several months ago. Thought it was great. Was standing in the store, and Tullamore Dew caught my eye. Thought; 'eh, why not?' Can definitely say it lives up to the quality of the advert! Very tasty.
I just watched the Rugby World Cup this past Saturday and the shortened version of this was a commercial. Definitely the best commercial I've seen in a looong time! Cheers, Tullamore! Well done!
It was on this St. Patrick's day that I lost my dearest friend, my beautiful dog, Munch. I listen to this song and think of what amazing friendship can be had between humans and their dogs. I remember this airing in the middle of the night and I had to look it up immediately. It is not often you see a commercial in America with a foreign influence.
This is the best advert I've seen for ANYTHING. I don't drink whiskey, but if I ever have to, I know what brand I will be getting. I was 100% prepared to cry, instead I got shivers. THAT HAT TIP. Good lord.
Last time I watched this was about a year ago, I don't know what brought me back here but I'm still searching for this version of the song. It's by far the best one.
I saw Tullamore Dew written on a side of a street and it instantly without me even connecting it to a whiskey, liquor or even a drink gave me flashback of men sitting on stone fence while it rains drinking something from glasses. From that mental image I concluded Tullamore Dew is probably a whiskey. That commercial is fire.
Christian Gonzales No, Tullamore Dew is by far not the finest Ireland has to offer. It's quiete cheap actually. Good, but have you tried Jameson? It's way better and not too expensive.
Lennart Gimm lol. Yes, I have. I'm an American. It's very difficult to find anything BUT Jameson when looking for Irish Whiskey. That must be why I love this stuff so much. Hehehe
Christian Gonzales Wow, I didn't know that. In Germany, we have quite a lot of choice, and I just love Jameson. Dew is good, but for me, it can't hold up. But since you've tried both too, I guess it comes down to perspnal choice ^^ Have a nice day and glasses up
Being Irish from moms side, though American Irish.... I understood this commercial after the first 1:20 seconds. A great one, and its a custom to joke in my family like this before a wedding.
The only commercial I've ever searched on RUclips to watch again
me too
+Justin Hawthorne the same for me!
I can say the same ahah ❤️

It’s James Joyce
Now that I'm pushing 70, I'll take my dismal life as it is. Everybody wants to go to heaven, ain't nobody want to go today.
And also nonsense. I disagree and plan on aging gracefully and with passion for living.

Having been born into a large extended Irish American family this brings back so many of the memories of raucous times and good humor.
All life's great passages are songs of joy and sorrow both.
Not only searched.. but saved !! Loooove it 🍀🥃
This give me the chills..
Oh all the money that e’er I had
I've spent in good company
And all the harm that e’er I’ve done
Alas, it was to none but me
But since it has so ordered been
By a time to rise and a time to fall
Come fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all
Oh all the comrades that e’er I’ve had
They are sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e’er I’ve had
They Would wish me one more day to stay
And all I’ve done for want of wit
To memory now I can’t recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all
Good night and joy be with you all
This should be like the exact lyric for this version ...if you want to sing with them! :D
how is it with 5th line ... i hear there something like "...ordered to be ..." but would it make sense then?
SooZoodimp its "so ought to be" lad...

Its a SCOTTISH song. But a lot of irish have sang it.
what is the name of the song
It’s a Scottish song like Auld Lang Syne but it’s a great song and add Sheeran and that other weirdo need to leave it be.

Antonio El GOD BroMo tony Romo my man
Beautiful song.
Jeasus ... The best advert i sow in my all life !!!!! 💘
This is almost a little short film. So well done. The fact that it's Irish whiskey forgives all my cynical thoughts about it being an ad :''D
If there was ever any debate as to whether marketing could be art, this advert settled it.
My God, what a fantastic, extremely creative and well executed advertisement!!! This is the type of thing that downright inspires my own creativity.
Legit one of the best ads of all time
I want to go to Ireland so bad it's looks peaceful there
Christian
You need to go to one of the rural Loch's then. You won't find peace around Dublin.
we need These guys to sing the full version
Good song, beautiful scenery.
The comercial that introduced me to my favorite song
Best commercial of the year.
love this song and this commercial GOD BLESS THE IRISH
Puts a shiver down my spine and stirs a fire in me heart
I just love the Irish
ne že bych měl rád reklamy ale tahle se mě líbí :-)
this makes me miss Ireland. beautiful place. nobody but a person of Irish decent will understand the beauty of that overcast sky & green landscape
Maybe i should go there sometime, i love rain and solitude.
This is my absolute favorite whiskey. The finest Ireland has to offer.
But since you've tried both too, I guess it comes down to perspnal choice ^^ Have a nice day and glasses up
Green spot is by far the nicest I've had. Well worth a try if you can find it in Germany.
I will try to find it, thanks for the hint :)
love it love my roots Ireland 😊😃☘☘☘
Being Irish from moms side, though American Irish.... I understood this commercial after the first 1:20 seconds. A great one, and its a custom to joke in my family like this before a wedding.
I remember when this commercial first came out, still easily one of my favorite ads ever. I mean I'm back now aren't I?
