Sligo, on the northwest coast of Ireland, is renowned for its thriving music and cultural scene and so four of Sligo's leading music pubs, renowned in their own right for sessions and live music, came together along with Sligo's leading young film makers and creatives, patrons and supporters, to produce this short film over the last two weeks.
Sligo is set to play host to the All-Ireland Fleadh in 2014, and so we hope this film showcases Sligo's eclectic music scene alongside landscapes that surround and inspire those of us that live and work as well as showing off what visitors to the area next year can expect to see.
The pubs which feature in the film include:
Barry's Public House, Grange, Sligo
Furey's Pub, Bridge Street, Sligo
The Swagman, Wine Street, Sligo
Tricky's McGarrigle's, O'Connell Street, Sligo

thank you to our customers, barstaff friends and families for support and fun in making this film.
I’m black. I don’t have an Irish bone in my body. This will forever be one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard
We except you as Irish it’s all about family
As an Irishman might say, "Aye lad, we accept you as one of ours but also, for fook sake don't ever trust an Englishman" haha
Word is no black and white.
Beautiful and haunting.
I don't know if this is a spoof of the original commercial but you should look up the original one. I'm 52 years old and found out last year after a DNA and genealogy test that I'm 23% Scottish. For people living in the US if we are over 5% of something it's considered a lot so I have a lot of Scottish in me apparently and a lot of the rest of my heritage shows it was right there on the border of Scotland and England. Was actually kind of astonished to find out that information I thought my heritage was completely different
My cousin just passed today... I sent him away with a proper toast to this song, the Irish way. This song shall forever hold a special place in my heart.
But since it fell into my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
Fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
RIP
Everyone now and then, I always come back to this. It is one of the best things ever put to film and song. This wasn't a commercial to me, but something of beauty. I admit, I always wanna go to Ireland. Hopefully one day. I might not wanna leave. But something about this is just so haunting and beautiful.
This will be the song they sing at my funeral. Purely enchanting...as is all of Irish culture. Níl ach braon beag fola ort.
never gets old. I hope I'm not the only one who still tears up every now and then
Nope...You're not the only one. This song just resonates with me for some reason.
For those who have been accepted into any pub as if him had always been one of them, for those who have crossed the Ha'penny Bridge, for anyone who is looking out from the cliffs of Moher, for those who are lost in the mists, for those who have danced until 'dawn, for those traveling from Dingle Peninsula saw the sun plunge into the Atlantic, for those who consider the Donegal a place of the soul, for those who behind a pint there is always a story to tell ... for those who have been Ireland.
Thanks for this wonderful video, and sorry for my bad English.
Irish True! thank you.
.
Your English is perfect, Norman. You put it beautifully. I once spent three straight days drinking, laughing, attending weddings -- all with friends. We played soccer on the shores of the Atlantic in West Kerry. Danced our way through pubs and Cork Co. Can one ever become tired of the "craic?" I think not. :)
Ellen Hilts-Gossett Thanks Ellen, you were very kind. And it was nice to read your story. The ireland for me it is important also because it was the first place I saw a cycle tourist. Or better say, a cycle traveler. Several years ago. I did not know that after a few years, the travel with the bike would have been my life. Le gach dea-mhéin :-)
Norman Polselli :)
Oh boy, does this video bring back memories. One day, lads, one day...
I love Ireland!Greetings from Bulgaria!
Заслужават си поздравите момчетата.

You guys need to remaster all theses amazing commercials into a story. You would crush us market!
I admire Ireland and their songs and heritage. Been to Erin for so many times now and can’t wait to get back there. Slainte and best wishes from Germany. Stay strong and healthy through this aweful times. Cheers
The commerical this was based on is absolutely the most awesome piece of advertising ever.
A song straight from the Soul, a memory of times past but lifts the souls in these strange times we find ourselves in now. Thank you lads just what is need .
Such a beautiful song ! It brings tears to my eyes. I learned so much today about Mexican , Irish history ! And how we fought together during the war. I’ve always had such a deep love for the Irish ! All 4 loves of my life that came and went. Were all Irish ☘️! And I see now why I’ve always had such a deep connection with my pretties
This is a great example of the Irish mind and heart. It is both sad and happy! That is what makes the Irish so wonderful!Erin go bragh!
Truly what life is all about...enjoying the drink as well as laughs and good times with friends enjoying music....how can one say they have not lived life if they did that?
Well done from the US boys...thank you.
Celebrate them all. Here & now and those we lost. Cheers!
Under this video , i think there is no space for Anger and bad things, but for happiness, and strong relationships between nations , love you all !! ❤️
I absolutely love both versions. They are each wonderful in their own way.
Wonderful Irish wake song. I love this song. And perhaps the best whiskey in the world. Perfect combination.
I've always said this be one of my favorite ads (if there be such a thing). Someday I hope to visit this distillery. Their whiskey is fine, and their add's are classy. The two go hand in hand. Tullamore is on my bucket list. Hope I make it.
My wife and I stayed in Sligo for our honeymoon nearly 20 years ago.
Excellent work from all involved. Makes you proud to be from Sligo.
This song makes me think of my grandparents idk why but it does i miss them dearly .
There can never be too many renditions of this song. Sligo - who knew?
I am getting some churching up right after this Guinness in honour of my father - Col. Edwin E. Kelly - the greatest man I have known or will ever encounter . Di'a mo athair . Godti' go le che'ile sinn ari's ....
Maith thu! Is brea liom uisce beaha! Brilliant production.
Loved being part of this!
This kind of sound always reminds me where I'm from :) not that I ever forget, just lose touch some times, beautiful
This is one of the best videos we have seen in a long time! And it is in our beloved home away from home of Sligo!! We bring our groups to all the pubs mentioned, by the way, and they are fantastic, each in their own way. Well done on this production - you hit a Homerun!
Great work lads. Couldn't capture the phenomena that is Sligo any better than this.
This commercial has the best rendition of this song hands down.
Excellent...doing Sligo proud!
It’s on the tube. Drunk enough to not feel the rain. Aye the glory of whisky.
Memories had and mostly forgotten. It’ll all be revealed in the end.
Nothing like having a small group of the closest friends that are closer than blood to share a moment of understanding of brotherhood beyond anyone you've ever met.
Hey ya! Go on now, ya boiz down der in Sligo! Slainte to yiz, happy holidays!
Soy argentino , está canción te acaricia el alma , te da un abrazo y te dice que siempre es un buen momento para un whiskey
absoutely DEADLY ..love it ,, well done lads !!! proud to be from sligo :)
The last part, " is it done Mate ? " What a hoot ! Well done.
nice visuals, but too much echo; sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom
It was from the movie, " Waking Ned Devine :.
As you were, It appears to be a local group of Harps. The best part is when one of the singers's glass fills with rain water.
Beautiful camera work. Great video good sentiments--
This is great, I love the music and I listen to it every week, well played gentlemen
"May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
And the rain fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand..."
For all those once here, and are now gone... Will

ABOUT
"The Parting Glass" is a Scottish and Irish traditional song, often sung at the end of a gathering of friends. It was allegedly the most popular parting song sung in Scotland before Robert Burns wrote "Auld Lang Syne". The poem was printed as a broadside in the 1770s. The earliest known appearance of the tune today associated with this text is as a fiddle tune called "The Peacock" (1782).
"There for the grace of God go I"
Great commercial video! Glad to see the Irish showing their whiskey!
Loved it. Tullamore Dew is God's Whiskey after all
Colin, great movie, great idea & so well executed!!
So nice.
I fear I’ve ruined any and all Celtic music for myself. My dad’s side is heavily Scottish. For his funeral, I played a rendition of County Roads on the bagpipes. Now, I can’t hear the pipes without bawling. What was once a hauntingly beautiful instrument is just haunting to me now.
This video is, ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT!!
Great Cinamatogrophy!
Great video lads - creative and unique way to showcase Sligo's pub scene.
We sang this song at my local pub in Glasgow the night we heard Shane MacGowan died. There wasn’t a dry eye after we sang it.
Wow....beautiful.
Lovely, brought tears to my eyes.
please , everyone we need to do something so that we get the other version , where its the several guys singing it , that one is very nice , place a comment saying you agree , or thumbs up this one , if u have a better idea so our message reaches them please post it as well , thanks !
cityofdreams95 , thanks for your comment. the other version is still available if you look for it. this is only our take on their Idea as we promote Sligo, Ireland, music and creatives.

Hey Colin and all involved. Ye have surpassed yourselves with this video. Wanted to hit the like button but it wouldn´t do justice to the video, it was brilliant. Keep you the creativity.
Love it, well done!
Lovely! Wish I met an irish person during my studies abroad - would hate to visit Ireland as an observing tourist.
The only country outside my own and Canada I truly want to see.... and maybe Scotland... would love to see Ireland...

dope song and commercial
Are we there yet mate
A didgeridoo in the film and I heard an Australian accent saying the barbeque isn't ready.
Clearly an Aussie connection is strong with this one.
@SauronsEye, Indeed, The Swagman Bar is run by the Best Aussie in Ireland and is a great music venue in Sligo Town!
The Parting Glass always brings deep, somewhat sad thoughts to my mind, Tullamore Dew helps settle them a bit.
I am so happy to be an Irishman right now! Irish or not, all are invited to get pissed with us. A two day boozem sounds like the shite right now!
My chosen libation for weddings and funerals!
I love "Tullamore DEW..
Oh how I wish I were of Irish descent so I can go live in Ireland...but I guess I need to marry an Irishman..
I'm irish, just felt like saying that so u know my voice is amazing too
Anyone 2020? 🔥❤️
I am the descendant of Ulstermen (Monaghan, Armagh, and Down) but I never visit Ireland without spending four or five days in Sligo. Dunno why, but I have come to absolutely love the town. (My wife's people are all from Ballymote, so that may have something to do with it.)
Glasses Up Forever!
This is like my son, Tomas, friend. They call themselves the crew. Tom was the first to be married and then one by one over the years they all got married.
Great video, thank you Colin. Then again, any video of the land of Eire is good in my opinion. A pint of the "dark stuff" and a glass of Tullamore Dew. Not much better than that. Glasses up lads!
