    those (textures) are pretty simple shapes, you can safe a lot of space on your hard drive just making it proceduraly in blender and save as asset, it will be even better than 32-bit depth images, though your eye can't see the difference anyways

    • @blenderisms
      @blenderisms  7 месяцев назад +17

      yeah, you are right. some can be done procedurally. It's just easier to do them in photoshop for me, than setting up node networks. Others are a bit more complicated and I needed to model a softbox / diffuser, place lights and render them out to an exr. Ideally at some point I'll book a photo studio for an hour or two and shoot HDRi's of actual lights. too bad HDRi's can't capture the directionality of the light too :D

      I would prefer having the textures because if it's between me wasting time setting up nodes for a lighting feature and just not doing it, I probably wouldn't do it. The textures save a lot of tine

    As an NPR artist, this is probably nothing I will ever use, but I still like to watch these videos for their nice visuals and the fact, how Blender keeps going and going in becoming more and more awesome. It has already been insanely great 10 years ago, but the foundation won't stop. Normally, you wouldn't be a fan of tools. Like I use Photoshop, doesn't mean I am an Adobe fan. But Blender, with as good as it is and just giving us all those abilities without any boundaries and without questions asked, yeah I consider myself a Blender fan. I am about to open up my first serious channel, which will be completely animated - and the first shirt my character will be wearing, carries the Blender logo.

  • @RomboutVersluijs

    I actually used the method on mesh planes. I actually thought light could already have UV since it could project images textures already. What is actually different vs the old method?

    • @blenderisms
      @blenderisms  6 месяцев назад +1

      if you just use a plane and give it an emissive material, you can't control something like the directionality. and as far as I remember, only the spotlight could project textures. Also as i showed, you could get uv's to work in older versions, you just need to jump some hoops.

  • @RomboutVersluijs
    @RomboutVersluijs 6 месяцев назад

    Well just tried it and perhaps im crazy. Not seeing what is supported, but i only see it work on spot lights. all others are still prection and average color

    • @RomboutVersluijs
      @RomboutVersluijs 6 месяцев назад

      Nevermind, it was the beamshape causing the issue. Weird i can remember i used something in earlier version, cant remember the workflow though. I needed to put it to 0 for it to project sharp image from the light source

    How can i add a Blackbody node for the light temperature, with these textures? I always struggle between choosing one or another

    • @blenderisms
      @blenderisms  5 месяцев назад +1

      you can either multiply them using a mix color node or plug the hdri texture into the strenght slot of the emission node

  • @fairplex3883
    @fairplex3883 6 месяцев назад +1

    Definitively not the Most UNDERRATED feature (it's not even a feature, you are just using nodes to create an HDRi like environnement) and you can do that since Blender 2.8 if not earlier.

    • @blenderisms
      @blenderisms  6 месяцев назад +1

      you have your opinion, man, as wrong as it is 🤡 It is a feature, as in it is a functionality that wasn't available before, or you needed to jump hoops to do it. It is underrated as this is probably the most used trick in product rendering and nobody in the blender community ever mentions it, cause it didn't work out of the box. I've seen some people try to do it by using a plane with a translucency shader as a light diffuser but that's just upping the render times, for comparable, if not worse results. Lastly, if you think working with actual lights is the same as just plugging in an hdri ... I don't have much to say to you 🥲

      To be honest, I've tried most render engines/have licenses for them and I use V-Ray/Corona at work, but for personal projects and fun I stick with Cycles simply for how well it is integrated into blender, which just makes it easier to work with. not necessarily a better renderer though.

    • @kavilpparwar4956
      @kavilpparwar4956 7 месяцев назад

But octane is free and most popular for product viz. if you can please do make some tuts using octane, many people are unaware of the octane's capacity. and since this channel is mostly product viz it would be great to get some extra information out :) .Its as easy as cycles. @@blenderisms I worked with Blender in my job for quite some time, and I'm transitioning to 3ds Max + Corona (I still model in Blender, much better there). I can say that the renders I get straight from Corona look a lot nicer.
      I know that it is possible to achieve the same quality with Cycles; however, with the tight deadlines, my opinion is that Corona delivers me the goods in a shorter time.

    • @blenderisms
      @blenderisms  7 месяцев назад +2

      It's normal. Corona's only purpose is arch-viz. And to be honest the libraries with materials and models for max and vray/corona are just better than the blender alternatives. So yeah, as nice as blender is, for work you have to use whatever gets the job done the quickest.

    • @blenderisms

      IES lights simulate how light spreads coming from a spotlight, which will not give you the same reflections as a softbox. if you want, try to get the same look with IES lights, you will find for yourself.
