What a excellent recipe! I made this today. I didn’t have 3 of the ingredients green onion,bean , sesame oil. But the flavors were there. I did use white onion. But I will have everything next time. Thank you so much❤

Its not. The original came from Sichuan, and this is more of a canto take on the same dish. I am canto, but prefer the one from Sichuan due to more complex tastes.

I love the idea of steaming the eggplant. People tend to forget that eggplant is a sponge and it soaks up all that oil making this dish heavy. But at the end of the day, it can be light and a great dish to go with rice and some Choi sum!
