What'd you think of Daddy Lau's recipe?
I think your father's recipe is great, that sauce mixed with the eggplant is key and not having the eggplant too soft. Hey Randy, did your dad say "jook sing"? I hope he or your mom don't call you that.
its so simple yet looks sooooooooooooooo delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the baby will be learning from grandpa 😁😁😁thank you for this delicious food I will cook tomorrow I will buy it from farmer market I hope you will teach me lots different dish 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

I cannot read the language crawl, it's is blurry. Can it be black and placed in the upper part of the picture? Otherwise it is excellent.
I’m a black woman and I want to thank you for sharing your traditions with us! This is the second dish I’ve made following your tutorials and the family loved it !!
@@kimlee8472 She's saying it to thank Papa Lau for sharing culture that's unfamiliar to her…?
I'm Cantonese myself and I always appreciate it when people of other ethnicities share their culinary tips. Why the unfriendly comment?
Good for you for making this for your family :)
I’m with you ! Food covers the spectrum of taste for those loving excellence!
Me too, and I'm SO glad it's vegetarian. This'll be tomorrow's dinner! 😋
I’m a HUMAN and I want to thank you for sharing your traditions with us!
This channel may be amongst the most wholesome content on You Tube. I love it. Thank you for sharing our wonderful culture and food with the world.
Thanks so much for the kind words AJ! We are so grateful to be able to share with you 🥰
Sometimes I get discouraged about our country's future - we are so divided. This family helps mem focus on all the good people who live here.
No cat videos are
"what's up everyone" may be the friendliest intro out there
It’s so rare to hear Cantonese being spoken and for once, I don’t even need the subtitles 🥺 these videos make me feel like I’m back at home with my family and the instructions are so easy to understand!
Too much letters and talking made hard for someone does not need to hear, we just need ingredients and the way to learn how to cook the foods
I hear you! Listening to him speak brings back memories in the kitchen with my grandma. I miss her cooking and her stories she used to share.
Your dad is a fountain of knowledge and all of us watching and learning from Master Lau are grateful! ❤️
its astonishing how quickly this channel has grown! The world truly enjoys learning about Chinese cuisine from your dad. 😁
Thanks so much for your support Shazzyhtown! We are so grateful to be doing this with the family and having the opportunity to share with the world! 🙏🏼❤️
What makes this special is it's like learning to cook from your own family at home. Just a homely family affair. It has really inspired me to get serious with my own cooking. It's taught so well, that I am confident I can make these meals.
Your channel is like a hidden treasure among the entirety of the youtube cooking channels. The instructions, the editing, the angles, and all the additional little details like captions, pro tips, FAQs, the timestamps, and of course, the charm of your father and the Laus. I feel like I'm in the room cooking together with your father and ate together with your family, it feels so warm and at home. Thanks for existing!
The amount of effort and detail to make this easier for the viewer (i.e additional commentary and vegetarian option for oyster sauce) does not go unnoticed. Thank-you Lau Family.
Your dad’s recipe and the way he teaches is like very familial, grandpa-like. I never had a grandpa so Grandpa Lau is now my designated virtual honorary Grandpa who teaches me my Chinese heritage through food
Love the content and Randy's "easy listening" and clear narration. Unlike other typical cooking vids, I particularly enjoy the family sitting down at the dinner table and eating the food - that's what family cooking is all about! Keep up the good work Lau Family!!
Love the Laus.🤗
I LOVE the family dinner part! And the eggplant shopping tips, too.
I cannot wait to try this!!!
Wooo! You'll have to let us know how it turns out if you make it!
Just came here from seeing this on your Instagram! ❤️❤️
Omg hi I love ur cids
So nice to see this!
u cant wait to try dad's eggplant?
I've made this several times now. Not once did my dish fail, but it keeps getting better. Probably because I may have missed a small detail while watching the video. My husband of nearly 50 years now just told me that he'd be a very happy man if I made this once a week or two. Thank you so much for all of your lessons and recipes. This has become one of our favorites.
Love that you lingered on your Dad cutting the vegetables...it was the demonstration of a master at work. Thank you.
Daddy Lau is real “Legend “ getting addicted to your cooking channel. Your mom is so lovely. Love her explanation in English. Baby cam is Sooooo...adorable. Of course both of you Randy and Kat are loving couple too. Enjoyed your Vblog so much. What a happy family bonding with the delicious home cooking food.
🥰Thank you so much for the love Adrian! We are so grateful that you are enjoying our family's videos and learning from dad! Can't wait to keep sharing more videos with you ❤️🙏🏼
Every time I watch your dad, he reminds me of my grandmother cooking in the kitchen. She passed away in 2019 and sadly a lot of her Chinese recipes passed away with her. Lately, I've been missing her and her home cooking. I know your dad's cooking will not replace my grandmother's cooking, but the recipes he cooks is very similar to hers. Thank you to you and your family for being so generous with sharing family recipes.
Same here, I was just thinking that myself..
RIP
Your dad is an absolute treasure! You make a great team. And what a lovely family!
I’ve only watched this video, but the fact that you collaborate with your dad to show your culture and recipes, persuaded me to subscribe more than enjoying a simple good cooking channel. Thank you for sharing!
As a Hong Kong immigrant who recently moved to the U.S. your videos are so heartwarming
I hope you'll find the time to compile your own cultural experiences and favourite recipes and upload some videos too! I'd watch them :)
My favourite part of your videos is when you all sit around the table to eat and talk! I really enjoy hearing the Toisanese being spoken. Thank you for preserving tradition in your channel!
Thank you for mentioning Toisanese, i was really wondering which language it is 😊
@@Opethiansoul actually, I no longer thing it is toisan, I think it is Cantonese...it's been decades since I've heard toisan spoken...
@@fredq1620 It's Cantonese, not Taisanese
@@sylviayau6646 yeah, when I listened closer I caught some of the different words. Anyhow, it's been decades...😆
Mama Lau is such a sweetheart and so real in every way - your father has such great support in her ❤
Dad’s ASMR knife skills are pleasing
I made this tonight with all the ingredients including the optional wine. Hugely positive response from the family, even my kids. Amazing sauce. I used two small Thai dried peppers which was the perfect amount of heat.
Did you use the black bean powder
⁷
just tried this recipe. it's excellent! many tks Grandpa Lau!
I made this dish tonight and everyone loved it. The balance of the sweet and spicy sauce allowed everyone finished their rice. I don’t normally enjoy cooking as I’m not very good at it. Thanks to Dad Lau for making me feel like a Chef 👩🍳 tonight.
Looks yummy
And that is another example of the power of food made with love.
Just cooked it.
It’s one of the best dishes I ever cooked in my life.
Thanks for this.
I like how daddy Lau steamed the eggplants instead of frying. He is absolutely right that steaming is much better for your health than frying. More steamed dishes please…..
I love how your dad always teaches us how to pick the vegetables. This is so helpful!
I'm Italian and I wasn't aware of the melanzana=mela insana issue. It's funny that I've learnt it waching a video about Chinese cuisine!
This is seriously informative and good cooking video with family talking in them. Can feel the warmth of your family talking about food, life in the olden days. Love this.
I am rooting for your success and hope that your father will live to 100 years old! You got a ground breaking mix of cooking, culture, history and language all in one video! ❤️.
I just want to take a moment to appreciate the filming and editing quality!
Thanks so much Ram! Appreciate your kind words so much 🙇🏻♂️
Exact
Most detailed and professional editing I ever saw for a food channel
Ha. It was so good I didn't even notice. It just flowed perfectly.
Love all the little details...chatting about cooking shopping tips
This is a great cooking video but I love how you share the conversations with your family around the table. You do a great job in explaining everything. Thank you!
My second favorite thing about these videos is the simplicity of ingredients for almost every recipe. My favorite thing is the Lau family. Thanks for including me at dinner. Thanks to Mr Lau Sr. My ability to make delicious Chinese dishes.
This was done so well!! Really amazing the detail you all put into this video. I’m so impressed. Love your dad’s attention to detail. The added word translations were a pleasant addition. I learned a new recipe, a few new words, some history and a sense of connectedness to you and your family personally and culturally. What a way to bring value! Kudos.👏🏾 😊
Father Lau is adorable. Reminds me of my dad who was a great cook. I love these recipes that in my family we call Cantonese cooking. The Cantonese with English translations helps a lot. The tips are fantastic. Such a cute family. Thanks!
Your dad reminded me of the Hong Kong cooking shows 20 years ago.. simplified instructions yet informative 🙇🏻♀️
Thank you so much for including so many ways this dish can be tweaked to accommodate dietary and other restrictions. I am disabled and sometimes I can't cook much of anything. Knowing that I could make this partly in the microwave is awesome! Thanks for making this recipe accessible to people with all kinds of different needs.
I could watch/listen to this knife technique all day.
You do an amazing job putting these videos together! They are so informative and the editing and design is really well done. Your channel name really encapsulates family and food, and for young North American-born Chinese like myself who have a desire to connect with their cultural roots through food, Made with Lau is the perfect medium for that!
Ahhh thank you for the love Jaime! That really makes our day to read and makes it all the more worthwhile! The whole family is super grateful for your support and we can't wait to share more with you 😊
On behalf of everyone I just wanna thank you for all the effort made into creating each and every video. Many blessings to you and your family!
Thanks so much Sandria B 🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♀️❤️ Really appreciate your support of our channel! Many blessings to you and your family as well 🥰
Your dad is awesome, and best of all he still has all of his fingers after all that cutting he did with that cleaver throughout his restaurant days. Seriously though, you are blessed to have your father around, and we are fortunate that he is sharing his recipes.
The production of this video is amazing! Just found this looking for the Yuxiang eggplant dish. The whole commentary in the top corner with the dad answering questions is really insightful and I love that the prepping is still viewable 👌
I tried your dad's recipe. OMG . Taste so good and way healthier than eating out. 💕 Big thanks to you both. I can cook chinese food at home☺️
Oh yay! So grateful that you tried out our recipe and enjoyed it! We hope it becomes a regular in your household!
My dad did most of the cooking growing up and he had long passed away. These videos give me the opportunity to learn about the food that would otherwise be lost to me forever
I want to say, thank you and the family so much for sharing these videos, your recipes, & especially your experiences (in food and beyond!) with everyone! You are all amazing.
Man, the information in and outside about every dish in these vids are just so rich, informative and well organized. My favorite cooking channel to go to so far.
Knife skills can be a Masterclass episode! Excited to make this! Thank you for the upload! 🥰
Can’t wait for you to try too! Thanks so much for the kind words about dad ❤️🙏🏼
i was noticing the same thing! the sloped fingers!
First-time watching this channel, and I have to say that I really admire the extra amount of information put into the video. Really helpful tips. They mark the difference between an instruction and a course.
My favorite part is the interactions with your family at the end. So wholesome 💗
You can feel heritage and history when Daddy Lau chops up the ingredients. Generational knowledge passed down. Amazing :)
One of my favorite dishes. Great video and you are so rich to have a father like him.
I feel so grateful to have him as a dad. Also grateful that through these videos we get to share him with you ❤️
Love this whole family. I wish I could go eat at Daddy Lau's house! 😍🤤 I'm so glad RUclips recommended "Made With Lau" to me!!
the editing, the time stamps, the links to ingredients, the entire production level of this channel 🏆 AMAZING!!!
Mr. Lau is the best at teaching us non experienced lovers of Chinese cuisine. Also, African American families, Greek American families. Asian American families, Italian American families etc etc etc must watch your channel. We are all the SAME! food unites families. We should celebrate our commonalities, not our differences. Your channel is inspirational! Keep up the good work! BTW, this eggplant recipe was excellent
Anna from New York City
My mother always believed someone in the family should learn to be a good cook cause nothing brings family together more than good food. It's a shame we currently rely so much on eating out and no longer indulge in family get togethers besides on Thanksgiving.
We don't have much time here (reality check due to Covid), enjoy family time more and work second.
Tried the recipe and love it. I love how your father teaches us the cooking. I'm so happy to find someone with Cantonese language who teach us easy Chinese cooking. It reminds me home 😍. Love the vibe and your father is so great. Good teacher 🙃
Thank you for this recipe! I had never thought of steaming eggplant in the microwave. I steamed one eggplant (thicker variety) for 6 minutes in the microwave and it was perfect. I feel like I can finally cook some Chinese dishes properly because of your channel. 🥳
Omg your dad still has such finess with his knife skills!! It's so wholesome to see!
Love how your dad says sauce in english - "sausy". Lol. Rather than in canto "jeung".
Hope to see more seafood based videos soon.
I've only watched two of your videos so far, but I already know that I am going to love your content. I really like your dad's recipes and I especially really like and appreciate all of the tips and tricks during the tutorial and after your meal. All these years I've been buying eggplants wrong! Thank you so much for sharing your family's recipes and your parent's knowledge. You've got a new subscriber in me!
A warm home filled with good food, love, and informative details! Love the use of hands (best tools) and how every little bit of ingredients goes into the wok n isn't wasted!! Kudos!
I always learn something new with your videos! It can be about the protein, vegetable, technique, cultural history, etc., I love it! So much more informative than other channels. Appreciate all your videos, your parents and family.
I like the dad’s technique of making the dish more healthy and not oily
Everything about this video and this channel is pure perfection! Humble, knowledgeable, generous with sharing your culture and cuisine, loving and lovely family, easy to follow and DELICIOUS! I'm so grateful I found you! Thank you.
I’m very glad to see a version that in general uses less oil. Just made this following your dad’s recipe and put in some chicken mince I had leftover in the freezer. Veeeery good. Thanks for sharing!
Hong Doy is getting cuter every day!
🥰🥰 He steals our heart
Ours, too.🙂
Hong Doy was definitely feeling feisty today! He's getting strong!
Hong Doy ah Hong Doy! I can hear Mr. Lau saying it haha

We eat eggplant several times a week and I never thought to steam it. Definitely trying this. I am loving your dad’s recipes and watching you chat and eat as a family. So glad I found you all via your spot on Beryl’s channel. Blessings to you all.
So glad you found us through Beryl too Despina!! 🙏🏼 Yay we are so happy that you enjoyed hearing this alternate way to make eggplant. If you try it out we hope you love it!
Love this healthy version of 魚香茄子. Daddy Lau is so knowledgeable about how to choose the vegi, cooking tips ... and one can learn Cantonese from watching this channel 👍🏻👍🏻
Your Dad is a wisdom man. How lucky you are.
I’m glad that comes across your channel, having a chance to learn from what he’s sharing, knowledge/experience on Chinese cookery, with the public.
My respect and grateful for what he did. Thank you.
These aubergine recipe looks obviously delicious and inspiring.
I’m so excited! This is one of my favorite dishes to order and I can never get it right at home. Your family has made so many dishes that I grew up with, and I’ve stepped up my cooking/knife skills since I’ve started watching.
Tried your recipe last night and it's my new favorite! No deep frying needed! Other eggplant recipes I've tried require so much hands on prep time and it's tricky to get the texture right, but Daddy Lau's recipe is practically foolproof. Thank you for sharing not just the recipe but your lovely family dynamic!
Simply love this eggplant dish. It’s my second time preparing it and as always, it did not fail me. Much love from Ghana 🇬🇭
I love these videos! I work on a farm and I used their eggplant to make this meal. It was absolutely delicious. Thank you for making all these wonderful videos!
Hong Doy wants to steal the show lol
Hahaha he's becoming such a little ham 😆
Made this last night. AWESOME! Thank you. This was a fav dish of mine and to make better than some restaurants around me, I am greatful. Thank you, Ba!
Thank you so much for this recipe. Your dad is awesome. Enjoy watching your family share the meal together. Keep up the good work!
Thank you, and may your family be blessed with many more culinary gatherings. Lots of Love makes me love your presentation!
I'm so happy that this is a vegetarian version! Looking forward for more vegetarian dishes 😋
Thank you! I made this tonight for the family and they love it! As a relatively, new cook (about a year) your instructions were amazing.
Thank you Lau family esp. your dad for being generous in sharing your recipes.
The sound of the knife clerking on the cutting board immediately reminds me of cooking time. That is the way of me recognizing my mom is making the dinner.
I made this dish two nights ago, and it was so incredible!!! My husband loved it. It was even more delicious as leftovers 😋 Thank you for sharing!
I made this last night. It was simple and delicious. I learnt a lot from this video. I would never have steamed an eggplant. Thank you! 💕
I just found your channel, and love it. I really like hearing the cantonese and seeing the subtitles. Thank you so much for the tips on picking the eggplants!!
Beautifully done!!
Looks delicious 😋
Thank you so much for your dad's recipes
And for your great translation 😊💕
"Raising an eggplant is like raising a son." NOTED :)
😆❤️
Asian parent: You can't raise an eggplant without beating some eggs.
Fun to hear your dad say Yuxiang “fish fragrant” in Cantonese. As a western guy, i try to stick to the Sichuan version as shown by Chef Wang Gang but I would love to try your dad’s food. It looks delicious. Different master, different method, so true.
Love your videos and having your dad teach in Cantonese. Super cool learning from him since my mother never taught me 😇
Just found your channel and I am LOVING it! Love your dad, love the recipies, love the family eating together at the end. And I am 100% going to be cooking many of these recipies starting with ginger fried rice today. I already made eggplant like this but not exactly I'll try this version next time.
So glad I discovered your channel! Your family is so cute! Everyone takes a turn holding the baby so each person gets a chance to eat! ❤️
My mouth is watering! This looks delish! We love eggplant and this dish will be on the menu! Thank you all so much! You are all so precious! Hugs and have a blessed day!
🥳❤️🥰 Yay! We can't wait for you to try!
OMG. I was literally thinking the same exact thing about how gardening is like raising children/vice versa. Your dad is my spiritual dad for sure 💜💜💜💜💜 I began vegetable gardening in earnest about two years ago here in NW Tasmania, and my youngest just turned 1! We hope to have another baby- and I hope to have many decades of food gardening ahead of me. Originally I grew up in Malaysia, so miss all the home grown food - homesickness for me is all about missing the food, something the pandemic really made poignant and severe. Haven't been on a plane since covid. Thank you for this wonderful look into your family!
Always enjoy your dad's cooking video.
Keeping tradition and custom alive is important for the current generation and the next generation.
I can't wait to try some of the recipe myself.
Glad to have stumble upon your dad's cooking channel.
Don't stop making them.
Just tried this, this is so damn good! It's so much easier to steam than deep fry, and the effect is just as good. Killing it guys, keep it up :)
OMG, this is my favorite way to have eggplant. Thanks!
You are most welcome! Hope you are able to try and make this dish in the future 😋
I just want to let you know that your channel is both informative as well as entertaining. It captures the coziness and warmth of enjoying a home-cooked meal with family members. Thank you so much.
The Laundry family should have a cooking show on PBS! best informative asian looking show that I have ever seen!
Omigosh I like eggplant dishes. I may have to try your dad's version. Thanks for sharing.
Yay we can’t wait for you to try out!
Thanks for including the vegetarian oyster sauce:)
Most welcome! We hope these are brands you will enjoy 😊
I appreciate how he explains the little details like how the eggplant pieces should face flesh side up, as well as alternatives
Made this last night so looking forward to making more of Dad’s recipes! This was delish!!!
I used to think I hated eggplant, but then I tried a couple of Chinese and Korean dishes with eggplant, and I realized I actually love it. My mom just didn't know how to prepare eggplant properly 😅
