- Well we got our latest Fatal Fury City of the Wolves trailer, and it looks like your pal and mine Marco Rodrigues is making his long awaited return to the modern fighting game scene! You may remember him as Khushnood Butt, but that name is no longer, and Marco is where its at now! He's looking reallly strong his gameplay so lets breakdown everything in the trailer like you would expect!

****EDIT**** One error in the breakdown, its been so many years I totally forgot his command dash had the parry built into it, thats what that is in the trailer, I am only remembering now lol.
Here we are with our first character specific trailer for Fatal Fury City of the Wolves, and that is Marco Rodrigues returning! Khushnood Butt no longer, his name is unified worldwide now! He's bringin that hard hitting shoto lifestyle to CotW and looking fantastic in game! Since we on Evo Japan time its a late night/early morning upload so any likes you could spare for the algorithm heavily appreciated! That said watch the breakdown and let me know what you think!
My guess is that the trailer with first 5 counted so that means the only way to find everything on offer for those characters is through expos and betas
Guy is supposed to be a Brazilian, why the hell they named him “Butt” in the US localization back in 1999? Little sidenote: His name was already Marco Rodriguez in Japan. Some years later, Brazilians fans contacted SNK and requested to change his official name to Marco “Rodrigues” with an S in the end, a VERY common name here in Brazil (Rodriguez with Z is more common in Spanish-speaking countries) and to drop the "Butt" nonsense completely. SNK abided our request.
There was originally an MMA fighter with the same name. But they could have chosen any other name honestly to avoid trouble
To be fair, one of the primary associations with Brazil is a kush, nude butt.
I think they changed his nationality in the old US version. Butt is a Fairly common middle eastern surname and I suppose he could pass for middle Eastern visually
Same reason they changed Balrog/M Bison/Boxer name in the US version of SF. There was a fighter from the US named Ricco Rodriguez that they claim they didn’t want to be compared/sued by.
There was a Brazilian Heavyweight MMA fighter named Ricco Rodriquez. Marco looks nothing like him and doesn't use the same martial art. I never understood SNK's rationale. It's not like M.Bison/Balrog situation where M.Bison/Balrog's SF2 portrait was straight up Mike Tyson and he was former heavyweight champion boxer.
Marco made his transition into CotW fantastically, basically everything he was in Garou and more so... yeah kinda awesome. Here's hoping all the other characters and their trailers will be of this quality cause this one hit it out of the park.
He has jiggle physics in his pompadour, he's perfect. I think this is the second time that bear has appeared in a stage after Neo Geo Battle Coliseum.

I hope City of the Wolves includes stage introductions similar to the ones from Mark of the Wolves, though I think SNK first used them in The Last Blade series

@@bigshorty4855 those examples from KoF are kind of different, in The Last Blade and Mark of the Wolves you had a view from the stage from different angles and its name, a character introduction, a phrase in the case of Last Blade and a description of a character's martial art style in Mark of the Wolves. KoF 2001 and Rage of the Dragons later implemeted a stage introduction similar to that from TLB and MotW
Speaking of Marco's relationship with bears, he's based on the late Willie Williams who fought a bear on recorded video, which earned him the nickname "Bear Killer."
Love that his stage is in Yuri's gym. Who knows, maybe we'll see her and the other AoF characters aged up in Marco's ending.
Hopefully one of them would be playable.

I mean if we were to get an AoF character playable in this game it would most likely be Mr Karate 2, but I would personally prefer King or Yuri. Realistically though they'd be fine just making cameos in Marco's ending (the Sakazaki's and Robert all play pretty similar to Marco anyway).
We just got grappler representation at EVO. Clark won the KOF XV grand finals.
Marco rodrigues seems to be based on the real life karateka Francisco Filho!

If I remember correctly. In K Butt's (heh heh) stage, before fighting he and a bear do a cross counter kick before bowing to each other (it's been years since I've played Garou: Mark of the Wolves).

I love how his hand is literally on fire when throwing his fire ball.
Also, the karate bear is his sparring partner. In the stage intro for Marco, you can see attack each other with a flying kick

Never played any SNK games but damn, this Marco dude seems like a better Sean tribute than whatever capcom did in Street Fighter. Also he got that super awesome oldschool design with the pompadour and sideburns
I don't know how you managed not to play any of the great games throughout the years but no...there's no comparison to be made with Sean other than Nationality maybe.

Fun Fact: The nerdy student with the glasses from his original Garou ending is in the background as well as the Karate bear from his intro. He's on the far left of the stage.

This game looks SO GOOD. The 2D fighting games genre is eating so good.
I was playing kof13 global match like a week ago and realized he's in the dojo stage. I was surprised to see this appear, it's like when you start seeing a car everywhere after you learn about it.
he's made tons of little side appearances in other games, but yeah this is the first time hes proper playable again in like 25 years

the move before the kouken ( the hadouken ) is actually a counter he has. He dashes forward and does the move if he is hit( Gedan Harai mid, Joudan Harai low )
Man I can’t wait for this game. Amazing artstyle, fun looking combos, cool characters, great stages. PLEASE SNK have the game fully working at launch, I’m more hype for this game than I was for SF6.

My fav. character from Fatal Fury is back! He is also one of the best shoto as well (alongside Muhammad Avdol). The Neo Geo controller & G-Mantle's face being on the climbing gym is a nice touch as well.

Love this character, he's one of the two characters I like the most in Garou, he looks very accurate to his previous iteration, it's a shame it took this long to bring this character back.
9:27 I don't know if anyone noticed or I'm just halluccinating but it seems the super blows off some of the karate guys in the arena particularly the rock wall guy. You cam see some of the guys flying if you go in slowmo from the time stamp ( upper left of screen)
I'm so excited for Marco, when I first tried out Garou, I thought the Negative Edge stuff would be scary but it's honestly not that bad. Maybe cause it's just giant punch and kick, and it fuels my ape brain 🦍
Also, if the stage is called Yuri's fitness center, does that mean Robert bought it out for her? Cause he's a rich man 🤔

So I just realized something watching this back: if this accurate, then it means you’re no longer limited to one break move per combo like Garou had
I really like all of the kyokugen lore stuff. I like how they all have their own take on it and they have fun relationships with each other. snk stories are fun

Love that he’s coming back he’s my main and his design just works I think it’s the cool hair paired with just the most basic of karate gi; no gloves, t shirts or ripped off sleeves just a straight up and down karate guy who I looks like he hits hard like Ryo in kof 15
At 3:30 that move is influenced by ryo tatsu lp hp move from kof 98. The move has a slight auto guard property to it

Sean isn't green and electric. Though funnily enough, his sister has a green outfit & is electric.
Also Bob & Richard from Fatal Fury are Brazilian. And you can't forget Eddy & Christie from Tekken. There's definitely more Brazilian characters.

I hope that bear is WIP, because it looks warped AF, like they had a bear model and just rigged it with the human bones so that they could reuse the standing Karate pose.
I love the style of this game like UI and Cel Shading graphics it reminds me Streets of Rage 4
3:20 - It's not new. It's a counter move. Do hfb with kick and Marco does a small advance. It you press HK, he counters highs and with LK, lows. I think it's the only counter move where the character does a small charge fowards instead of just posing in place.

its just hit lp+lk when the move hits generally for a brake, its not particularly difficult.
