What will the Fatal Fury: City of The Wolves Roster look like?

- So Fatal Fury City of the Wolves is coming out early next year, and we still actually do not know too much about the game! We know some tidbits of the gameplay, but the roster we only have a few confirmed characters so far. However that said, there's more "confirmed" characters you may not know about, plus we can speculate about who just may make it in so lets talk about it!

So City of the Wolves comes out early next year but we actually don't know too much about it just yet! I am sure that will change up a bit come Evo Japan but for now we are in the dark, especially on the roster so I thought it would be fun to talk about exactly that! There's actually quite a few more "confirmed" characters out there than I think most people realize, and there's quite a few likely to show people so lets talk about it! Jenet is already in KOF XV, I'm pretty sure she's going to be added to CotW, SNK sure loved to recycle old sprites back in the day, so I'm sure they're going to use her model from XV, I'm mean, Terry and Rock's models look like they were lifted from XV as well, I'm not saying that as a bad thing.

Ryoko from World Heroes would be a nice pick for KoF/NGBC, though I don’t see how she’d work here… but then again SNK could find a way.

My favorites to return are Bob Wilson, Hon Fu, Xiang Fei and Blue Mary.
You said it yourself Rick Strowd, he's been one of my favorite ever since FFRBS2 and man was i salty when SNK gave his moves over to Vanessa.
I see the roster being 20-22 characters. Be a good size of clasic, MoTW, and new characters each. If they do 22 specifically, that definitely would be a bit of a jab at SF6 and its leaked roster at the start.
Would be cool if they brought back Alfred from Real Bout 2. Also Kim would be good and Ryo as a guest
I hope Ryo is in as Mr Karate, he could incorporate some of Robert's kick moves into his moveset to distinguish himself from Marco if needed. Though realistically speaking, he is DLC candidates at best.
Also, I remember one the devs saying that Shun'ei and Meitenkun can technically be counted as a Fatal Fury's characters since they are Tung's disciples. Would be a pleasant surprise to see them popping up in CotW.
The leaked data from the original Garou 2 showed Marco performing Robert's Gen'ei Kyaku, they just recently showed Marco in City of the Wolves but he didn't have any of Robert's moves

Yamazaki really feels like he's starting to build more in popularity so I wouldn't be too surprised to see him back in Fatal Fury.
The sprite character with the yellow jacket kinda looks like Rob Python 🤔 I wouldn't mind if they brought over characters from Buriki One. A game I've never actually played but I've always loved the character designs

as for other characters i would like to see, Franco Bash is a must for me. But i also would like to see some real obscure stuff. Alfred Airhawk from RBFF PS1 Port, or Tsugumi Sendo & Toji Sakata from Wild Ambition would be cool. Billy's sister Lily Kane would be easy waifu bait also.

Yes. Hence why I believe Andy and Joe's appearance in the promotional art just gives off supporting non-playable characters. Andy's design, although pretty cool, doesn't give off fighting vibes. Even though, King literally fights in a waiter outfit 😅

Real Bout 2 was considered non-canon, until a very recent interview where they put it on the official timeline, so I think there is a very good chance Rick & Xiangfei will be in COTW

Yeah, I know it sound crazy, RB2 is kind of a Dream Match game, but the fact that SNK designed 2 new characters for the game (3 if you count Alfred) kind of elevates that game into canonical status, specially with Xiangfei's inclusion in KoF '99

I would love for COTW to connect with Buriki One by bringing in Gai Tendo and Silber.
Gai Tendo in a new SNK game would be amazing, but only if Nobuyuki Hiyama still voices him. I miss hearing his voice as Joe
Quick correction: Hotaru was later added in the PS version of KOF XI
Visually, Kevin was always a less cool Ralf/Clark. But I liked his moveset. And his explosion effects looked great. Ralf's explosions looked piddly by comparison.
If they gave Kevin the Argentina Backbreaker I'd accept him as the game's "Ikari Warriors" stand-in character.

Well wait a moment there Rooflemonger. There is one member of the Orochi clan that could make an appearance. Ole Yamazaki is a confirmed member of the Orochi Clan and hasn't appeared in a fatal fury game since that confirmation, so if they reaaally want to sneak Orochi in. They have a way.

Part of me sort of hopes Axel Hawk gets in. I just like the "based off a real wrestler/boxer" characters that are based off 'rare' people. Like, Axel is the only George Foreman clone in fighting games I can think of

I want to see one of the Jin twins. In one of the endings, Kim took them in. I'd like to see Chonrei implementing TaeKwonDo in with his usual teleporting DBZ style nonsense.
And I'd like to see Yuri. We haven't seen her any older than a teenager yet. I want to see what they can come up with in an adult Yuri. I'm pretty sure she'd be somewhere in her 40's at that point in the timeline, but that makes it more interesting to me.
You hear one of Kevin's voice clips in that voice clip trailer so he's soft confirmed anyway. Specifically the "Bingo! Fire!" line is what he says when he does one of his supers. It's a different voice actor but almost certainly him unless they replaced him with Marky or something.
all the roster of fatal fury is super creative, hope they bring back all of them with the years.
i would like Sokaku back because to me was super weird and fun see a char like that in a fighting game.
I’d probably expect some analogs to KoF characters. Mark of the Wolves had some, so this might too. I kind of wonder if we see any Buriki One or Savage Reign. Like it’d be fun to see characters like Jyazu and a young Chung Paifu make it in, since the Savage Reign games are meant to take place in South Town quite a bit after the Fatal Fury series; could put in someone that’s meant to be Sho Hayate’s dad or something. If no Buriki One characters show up here, they gotta at least show up in the new Art of Fighting game they’re doing.

From the teaser at Evo ‘23, I heard Andy, Mai, Jenet & Kain calling out their supers so those 4 are shoo-ins.

I beg to differ... If you are talking about the voices teaser, that would not be Andy, but rather Hokutomaru. Why? Because Andy NEVER had any super moves where he shouts: "Shiranui-ryu Ninpou...". It's Hokutomaru who says it in MOTW and, of course, Mai says in all of the games she is in. So yeah, I'd say that was Hokutomaru's voice and not Andy's, even though I feel Andy should also appear as playable sometime down the road... Hopefully with a fresher take and new moves.
The one game SNK game I played, I gravitated toward Blue Mary, Shermie, and King. So they would be my top picks.
I actually think 20-ish is a bit conservative for roster size. SamSho '19 shipped with 16 characters with only one being reused, we'll definitely be seeing a lot more reuse this time (and SNK presumably has a fair amount more money to pump into this one)
I think we have to take into consideration other modern fighting games initital rosters (without including DLC characters):
- Guilty Gear Strive = 15
- Street Fighter 6 = 18
- The King of Fighters XV = 39
- Mortal Kombat 1 = 22
- Tekken 8 = 33
If all of the orginal Mark of the Wolves characters are going to be included in the base roster that would amount to 14 characters, the original Garou 2 for Neo-Geo would have included 6 new characters, if Preecha's inclusion means that SNK would add those proposed characters then it would mean the base roster could amount to 20 characters, and I can imagine SNK recycling some characters that already appeared in KOF XV like Andy, Joe, Mai, Yamazaki, Blue Mary and Billy, but I'd love to see some returning characters from older Fatal Fury games that haven't appeared in KOF like Bob Wilson, Rick Strowd and Alfred
mai's pretty much confirmed as her voice is in the teaser trailer/blue mary appears in the 15th anniversary short that takes place after motw it'll likely be similar to that.(think a chronicles mode recapping the series history could be fit for having geese/krauser who killed himself after being defeated in fatal fury 2 with how both are dead in the fatal fury timeline.)
Hokutomaru and Kevin are confirmed,but i highly doubt about Andy and Joe,at last not in the base roster.
Preecha looks really cool but damn Kain would be so sick, never played a Fatal Fury admittedly but I remember seeing Kain in an old Fisticuffs episode from Super Best Friends and he'd look so cool in this game

Okay for real though, I think Dino being like an Alt skin would be cool, not sure if SNK is up for that, but if they can, that would be cool! Rick Stroud and Alfred are my main hopes to come back in the game, just cause I really want the modern audience to see them. And they could be redesigned, especially Alfred, but Rick is too cool.
As for KOF character, I rather them just be DLC. If this is gonna be a celebration of Fatal Fury, then we should keep it like that until SNK wants money from us and throws in Iori or Athena to buy, lol
Personally, I prefer the canons of both series separated, that way you can have a lighthearted take in them iver at kof, but a deeper one interpretation in FF.

South Town-based KoF characters (Malin, Momoko, Shun’ei, etc) would be more tolerable than other KoF characters at least, especially those that haven’t been seen in a while.
About the KoF stuff, I could see certain South Town adjacent fighters, such as Malin or even Shun’ei, appearing but not the more typical KoF stuff.
KOF XV established the multiverse. Meaning they can include A Shun'ei, but not necessary the one we know in KOF. Meitenkun also makes sense because he also trained under Tung Fu Rue.
A crossover street fighter character would be so cool 😂

A small clarification, the original KOF characters do not exist in the Fatal Fury timeline, Yamazaki has no relationship with Orochi there, he was just someone who lost his mind, do not expect to see any KOF characters
Taking that away I would really like to see Rick Strowd, Duck King and Tung back
I'm definitely in the camp of keeping KOF out of FF, but some KOF characters do exist in FF. Both chang and choi appear in Kim's Real Bout Fatal Fury 1 ending.

Sir, SIR. I love your videos and I'm probably a nobody in the grand scheme of things but I am a big fan of Kevin AND Freeman from the original MoWT. Just had to mention that there are people out there who want to see those characters return.
Hoping they might bring a guest character from Savage Reign and/or World Heroes. Like Rosa, King Leo and Dio.
I'd like to see Chonrei and Chonshu back, if they are based on their Real Bout 1 version (didn't like their changes in later games).

I do want to see the return of EX characters back in SNK like King of Dinosaur is the obvious, but you can make the argument with an EX character of Rock having his KOF 15 move kit.
For me, I don't want the KOF characters in CotW, because they already have so much exposure. I prefer they limit it only to FF, AoF or to an extent, Buriki One and bring back characters that we havent seen or been playable for a long while like Richard, Rick, Duck King or even Alfred. They could add in Mr. Karate 2 Ryo or Tsugumi Sendo from Wild Ambition or those new characters from the unused Garou2 project.

An interesting new Character would be the Kid of Robert and Yuri, with a mixed moveset of both of them.
I remember having lots of fun playing Hokutomaru and him being a popular character. Even tho Mai is in the game, it’s impossible not having this fan favorite in.

rooflemonger, i've watched your video regarding what characters are going to be in the game, some of your points are valid but i want this to focus on fatal fury and garou. that means no guests. some obscure fighters from wild ambition, real bout special and mark of the wolves deserve a second chance. some popular names should sit out this instalment.

I could 100% see Nightmare Geese being a secret boss, maybe unlocked if you beat him or as a preorder bonus. Outside of him I would really love to see some Art of Fighting characters or "successors" in Season 2+ of DLC.
3:24 SNK only really re-uses assets when it comes to KOF as that's how it's able to keep their launch rosters, even back then Fatal Fury or other SNK fighters didn't re-use KOF sprites even when KOF did borrow from other franchises (notably in KOF2000). And it's why Samurai Shodown 2019 didn't re-use Nako's animations/model from XIV. I wouldn't expect that for COTW and from what we've seen nothing suggests that they're doing that.
Hokutomaru and Kevin were in that South Town overview teaser trailer as voices (Hokutomaru is the one talking about Shiranui secret techniques before Mai, Kevin's saying his BINGO before Billy does his FIYAH), so they're coming back. Safe to say everyone from MOTW is coming back.
Personally I want FF3/RB1 Franco back, didn't like the goofy beefcake version of him in RBS/2. Or even better, get Junior on the scene and following up his dad in kickboxing.
Also should add, Mary and Yamazaki are likely classic characters returning, as Mary's been seen in the MOTW era with a new design, and Yamazaki busts dojos, and Marco's dojo got busted...
The fatal fury characters (that aren't already announced or dead) that appear the most post garou are Andy, Joe, Billy, Raiden, Mai, Kim Kaphwan, Ryuji, Blue Mary, Li Xiangfei, and Gato

Bob wilson is a must be in the roster, an older versioon of him would be cool AF. Also, I bet we are going to see more AOF chars in garou. There is no reason to not sneak one or two chars like king or kasumi todoh.
