I like Geki. A female Geki could have been awesome..... Crapcom. I always enjoyed Geki's stage theme in the TurboGrafx CD port of SF1, Fighting Street. I really like his stage + appearance in the OG game, too. Good video THGM 😎👍
Birdie was not a black crayon he was changed to be an Israelites. So-called black ppl are Israelites not black colors or african-american.
Joe got a heavy reskin as Luke in Street Fighter V.

I found an old Street fighter machine in a corner of a abandoned community center, I plugged it in and played it for about 2 hours. Came back the next day and it was completely in pieces and in the trash. The owner said I could have kept it. I have been regretting not saving that machine for 30 years. I'm pretty sure it only had two buttons? It was one of the original first production machines.
Yes, the original model only has two buttons because they were pressure sensitive, the harder you press, the harder the attack.
The obvious problem is that they break a lot, that's why they changed to the six buttons layouts
See I knew it was special because I've never seen another cabinet of the original Street fighter! Plus it having two buttons, that's the second arcade I've lost due to other people's negligence. My stepfather threw away my playchoice 10 dual screen when I moved out. He said it was taking up too much room and I needed to come pick it up. I forgot so he proceeded to break it into a thousand pieces
Ouch the original 2 buttons were rarer due to many of them breaking as gamers broke their fingers, sad way it met it’s end
So he smashed it up then told you,you could of kept it 😅😅, plus the Arcade shop around my way still has the 2 button Street Fighter 1 since 87
@@Rolly2234 well I didn’t see him until the next day after I found the cabinet. I came back the next day and I guess they were emptying it out to remodel and he had some of his employees dragged out and throw it in the dumpster. i’m assuming when they threw it in there it just shattered into pieces because that’s the way I found it.
I have always wanted a SF1 remake by Capcom. I would like to see how it would be with proper controls and frames of animation. the original is incredibly clunky and barely playable.
And a bundled controller that you punch?
The original is kino, but tooooo way hard.
Same.
I would love to see a SF1 Champion Edition (or as AVGN once said, "SF1 The Good Edition")
Maybe some Final Fight and Slam Masters characters can be playable.
Not official, but there are fan remakes made with MUGEN. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for an official remake, though.
Alpha 1 is close
What strength!
But don’t forget there are many guys like you all over the world!
You've got a lot to learn, before you beat me. Try again kiddo!
You've outlasted the best. You are now the strongest Street Fighter in the world!
AVGN: wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah!
Or the audio... "mmmm mmmm mmmmmm mmmmmm mmmm mm!"
I've always loved how one of Sagat's K.O. quotes in _CvS2_ references this.
there's enough lost or forgotten SF characters out there to make up a fighting roster based on them alone
In regards to Joe from SF I, you completely missed the real American karate/kickboxing champion he's CLEARLY a reference to - namely Joe Lewis. No, not the Brown Bomber. The other Joe Lewis was a karate and kickboxing powerhouse known for his murderous right side kick. Look him up, he's 100% worth the time to learn about.
Actually he is more inspired by Benny the Jet Urquidez as his moves resembles Bennys moves particularly his signature spinning back kick
@@LunaticReason I disagree. I know the video mentions Urquidez, and I know very well who Benny The Jet is. Lewis had similar moves in his arsenal. Yes, he was best known for his power right side kick, but he also used the spinning back and spinning side kick. Look at the game character and look at video of Joe Lewis fighting and training. It's as obvious as Balrog (US version) and Mike Tyson. Perhaps Capcom looked at multiple kickboxers for inspiration, and to be fair, Urquidez was more current at the time the game was made, but Lewis was still famous and well known to martial arts fans at the time, too. I just think the connection is obvious and more likely than Urquidez.
@@nowhere529 totally agree Benny deserves his own character. If you're a fan, I of course recommend you watch Meals on Wheels for his legendary battle with Jackie Chan!
If Capcom ever decides to Retcom Geki and Mike as Vega and Balrog under a fake name and disguise to scout for new members to recruit into Shadaloo, I would buy it.
Would make sense how Sagat ended up joining
I thought Geki was Zebu according to SFV lol
@@redeyez_entertainment Nah Zebu is Bushiryu so likely a rival to the Geki clan.
My personal headcanon has Vega as someone connected to the Geki clan somehow.
Mike I've always considered to just be boxer(M Bison/Barlog). Vega and Geki is more of a stretch considering other than the claw, they are almost nothing alike.
If you look at the ninjas in the SF series, none of them look like pop culture ninjas, which I think is intentional. Maybe they're like "every other ninja depiction is kind of the same, our ninjas will look nothing like pop culture ninjas".
That said, I LOVE pop culture ninjas like Hanzo from Samurai Showdown and Ryu Hayabusa so a Geki return would be awesome for me!!!
Tyson should beat Paul's pre-teen ass dressed as Balrog in their upcoming fight.
We need a SF1 remake
A prequel game focusing on a young Gouken and Gouki
And of course a rival schools 3
Or put young Gouki and Gouken PLUS Goutetsu in an SF1 remake
@@helpkirbyhasagun_2047
Gouken
Gouki
Gou Hibiki
Gotetsu
Ken's Father
They can just do a Street Fighter I remake and Tekken 0 for the Switch.
we need Skullomania in SF6. its current roster is quite Lackluster..

Canonically, Street Fighter II is the sequel to Street Fighter but spiritually, Street Fighter II is the sequel to Final Fight AKA Street Fighter ‘89!
Not sure i get that
@@Kain5th SFll IS the sequel to SFl but earlier in the game’s development, Capcom were going to name it Final Fight ll but they never did because it had no real connection to the main characters of the og Final Fight but in later games they confirmed both games to be canon in the same timeline so hope this helps clear up some stuff.

There is something charming about Ryu's design in SF1
Red head Ryu is cool.
He looks fit but not hyper muscular like in later games.
Like Goku in the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai Arc (Piccolo Jr. Saga)
It was said Joe was considered to be in Alpha 3 as a convict fugitive, but that idea was transfered to Cody. One aspect of Joe's moveset is present in Cody's, where Joe's sobat kick ("Power") became one of Cody's command attacks. The convict fugitive idea is present in SF5's Shadaloo's database, where Joe uses the professional name "Super Star" to avoid be recognized.
Interesting, Alpha 3 was the first game of the Alpha series to drop a SF1 character to return with a Final Fight character to "counter-balance", havind just a new Final Fight char and no new SF1 char (A1 have Adon&Birdie w/ Guy&Sodom, and A2 have Gen w/ Rolento.
Also interesting, but off-topic, Cody have two additional command moves in Alpha 3 Upper exclusive for SFA Anthology (for PS2): Jaw Breaker and Wall Crusher.
Finally, Eagle was turned "ghey" also as a Freddy Mercury homage. And I respect it 100%, because it's a homage to a great professional, not a forced thing. BTW, Eagle is my main in CvS2. 😘
Excellent video Top Hat. I remember being in elementary school when SF1 came out. I couldn't play it to save my life. I watched older guys play it and remember the first time we all saw the fireball come out from pressing all the buttons😄 nobody know how the fireball came out, but everybody was like "OOOOOooooo"!
Eagle's construction company gets a shout out in SF6 lol
So lee is most likely Jamie's dad if yun and yang are his cousins
I don't think Eagle was gay. I think he's just there for business only, and as a fighter, you can't allow yourself to fall for female opponents because it could cause you to lose focus of the fight and not to keep your guard up as much as you should and you might not fight as hard as you would have otherwise. We already know that Morrigan uses her charm on men for that specific reason. So why put yourself at that disadvantage? Just stick to business, get the job done, and leave. Now if he was actually hitting on some of the guys, I might be more inclined to believe he was gay. But until that happens, he's straight in my book.
Nah, fam. Nishiyama is on record saying his design was inspired by Freddie Mercury.
Back then no one lived eternally offended.
That's also why no one complained about the other English rep being a literal hooligan.
@@mappybc6097 Oh, I see. I looked up Freddy Mercury and apparently he was bi. Maybe only Eagle's image was modeled after Freddy's and not his lifestyle? After all, Eagle doesn't act all flamboyant like his real life counterpart.
@@EriknocTDW Go look up his Alpha 3 japanese win quotes.
If there was any agenda, it was on Capcom's USA part who replaced them all with generic fighting game lines.
I didn't know Birdie was supposed to be black in SF Alpha. I thought he just got a tan.
.... Turkish U.K. migrant agenda 🤔
Yeah yeah, very funny 😂
Capcom was race and gender swapping characters before if became popular. Now, it seems like every Marvel and DC character is gender or race swapped. Ahead of their time?
And a bee stung him in the lips!
Haha same. At the time(10 years old), I didn't know there was a significant amount of British people with darker skin.
Thank you Tophat for including the Udon comics lore.
While they take place in a diffrent continuity the events help flesh out the character backstories.
You forgot to mention that Joe was also seen in the non canon Final Fight Streetwise pitfights
He was named "Ghost" in that game, but definitely looked the part.
Very true
All these years, I thought it was Cody that punched the wall with the street fighter jacket.
I would love to see Capcom “collect” all of these Alpha variant sprites, create the last few, & make a “high-definition” Street Fighter 1
They really should. But then again, waiting for Capcom to do what I want with SF almost never happens. Case in point, the rainbow color explosion that is SF6's general art style and GFX.
I think Joe was featured in Street Fighter2 opening when he punched the guy he fought and the camera then pan upwards to the building.
Those are Scott and Max. They've never been playable but they show up in the background of a SF5 stage.
I remember the arcade at our mall had SF1,the version with the giant buttons. Miss old school arcades.
Geki fights Vega in Vega's SF5 ending
I never knew that, ty for saying
That is his disciple, Geki II, who is fighting Vega.
The original Geki died.
@@meganinten0078 I'm curious where u heard that from 🤔
@@F1ghtGam3r In the official SFV site.
Capcom made artworks for all Street Fighter characters who have appeared
(Even the OCs from Street Fighter The Movie The Game and the EX series)
@@F1ghtGam3r It might be in Gen's ending in SF 4. Gen destroys Geki 1. You should be able to find it online.
Joe became Paul Phoenix
More likely geese howard
As one of the orignal creators of street fighter 1 left capcom for snk
@@Lupo32 wow, you are right!! 😦
Unpopular opinion Capcom vs SNK 2 was the best game the Street Fighter 2 characters were ever in, probably the greatest beat em up ever made (unlike SNK vs Capcom which were terrible)
Did capcom make one and snk make the other? One was very similar to the king of fighters and the other somewhat close to marvel vs capcom?
The entire roster should be playable always
At one time, I wanted to make a MUGEN game with every Street Fighter character. Then I realized trying to make a MUGEN game is very difficult. Just collecting the sprites from SFA3 was sooo time consuming!
@@walterlucero5757 big facts
While the OST of Street Fighter 1 is decent (there are some hidden gems), the AST (Arranged Soundtrack) from the console port (PC Engine) is amazing!!
I highly recommend listen Birdie, Joe, Eagle, Mike, Lee's themes in the AST
Also the remixes of SF1 tracks in SFV are very well done! 🎵
Awesome clip. My avatar in sf6 is modeled after Joe. I also previously had Mike and a Geki outfit. So far no one has commented on it when I visit the lobbies.
Joe to me looks like a character named Joe from a 80s ninja franchise called American Ninja. There are are a bunch of films that franchise. They were made by Cannon films.
Michael Dudekov, and those movies are trash lol
I like how capcom says “Mike is not Mike Bison/Barlog” You’re not fooling Mike Tyson Capcom
Yeah, I don't care what Capcom says, Mike is M. Bison/Barlog!
You forgot about Joe being in the opening credits of sf2. He's the one punching the other guy before it pans up the building to show the logo
Thats not him. Those characters can be found in SF6 tour mode
@@jayro792really? Where? I must find them
In 2002 I bought a Turbo Duo only for Fighting Street ( Street Fighter 1).
This was a great video! I enjoyed your breakdown of each character and how they fit in the overall Street Fighter universe.
Man, i really do appreciate your love amd knowledge on fighters and beat em ups. You never fail to impress!
Been waiting for a good video on these guys. Cheers!
Eagle is so cool in alpha, hopefully someday he will come back in a title.
Joe, he got an official art card during promotion for Street Fighter 5, I think. He is also a suspected cameo in Final Fight Streetwise, which I do think Tophat has mentioned. He was a very basic character in the first game, yet I look forward to seeing him in more games. There is a lot that can be given to him in stories, moves, and design. I guess I just like seeing an actual street fighter in the franchise and not just action movie heroes.
You're referring to the character named "Ghost" I believe, who you'd fight in Little Italy. Could very well be the intended cameo of Joe, like they featured Cammy as an opponent too.
I always thought it was Joe and Mike fighting in the intro of street fighter 2
Dude, your channel is so awesome that I pause a video and "pre-like" it before I've even watched it (because I know it's going to be awesome because you are awesome). Appreciate you bro, you are a legend. 👍
4:54 minutes in before he stops repeating himself and gets to the actual point
15:00 In Eagle’s defense, it seems like Morrigan’s charms don’t work on several characters. 😅
How many times have we seen a win quote against Morrigan that involved a character either ignoring her advances or outright rejecting her? 🤔
Eagle is the most interesting Street Fighter from SF1 despite his obscurity in the SF roster even though he was an expanded fighter in SFA3 Max it was said that that his Martial Art was Bojutsu not Bartitsu which might’ve been a typo in Alpha 3 Max little known fact his character design was said to be based off the villain Petrov from the Bruce Lee film Fists of Fury
I think they should eventually put all the characters of SF1 as playable characters in future Street Fighter Games. Seeing Joe or Lee in a game would be awesome!
The original streetfighter deserves a remake and deserves to have way more better controls, the angry video game nerd would call it “street fighter the good edition”
Pretty sure Gen is spelled with a hard G, not Jen.
All these characters from SF 1-5 and SF 6 roster is so barren. Dope video though! 🔥
Joe was supposed to appear in Alpha 3 but the idea got changed mid-development. It's why we got jailbird Cody since that was the original idea for Joe.
Got a link to where that was stated?
Damn. Even I had completely forgotten about Lee.
What an awesome video 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I always kind of wonder for many years now that Retsu kind of reminds me that its possible he's a Shorinji Kempo practitioner in terms of his posture and hand positioning.
Excellent video
Eagle looks like he's more influenced by Escrima than Bartitsu.
Love your vids
I wish they bring them all back
Correction Top Had. Eagle's updated sprite 1st appeared in Capcom vs SNK2. They imported the sprite as an extra added character in home version of Alpha 3.
I always thought that the street fighter II intro was Joe punching the shit out of Mike but the guy in the intro has slightly different hair than the guy in the attraction scene lol
Eagle. I don't think he was a bouncer. As I recall, Eagle was the head Butler of the castle in his stage. Maybe he was retconned.
I'm surprised they didn't tie him in with Dudley
Joe actually did get an appearance in another Capcom game. He was a boss of an optional underground arena fight in Final Fight: Streetwise.
Good stuff I enjoyed this 1 😉, I never ever came across a Street fighter 1 arcade machine until almost 2 years later in the early 90's , I was looking for a Street fighter 2 machine as that was the craze at the time , I found the original street fighter while doing so just 1 time , I Guess no 1 really cared about a Street Fighter 1 as 2 only was on everyone's minds because of the phenomenonal impact it made but I often wondered about what happened to these characters after until now , this is the 1st time a RUclips channel has discussed the topic , further more I think you can still use these Street fighter 1 forgotten characters in modern street fighter games I mean Chun Li never sent projectiles until Hyper fighting and Dhalsim started teleporting , Zangief , Blanka , E Honda , all got new moves added.
In the case of Dragon Ball I actually prefer the original even if more obscure.
I remember playing the original at a friend's from school, his brother had it, I had already played Street fighter 2 which just dropped at time but was still interested to see the original as I was blown away by Street fighter 2
Isn't Joe supposed to make a cameo in Streetwise? Not to mention that apparently Cody's sprite in SFA3 originally belonged to Joe. On top of that, another thing that is discussed is the fact that the character who breaks the wall in SF1 is actually Terry Bogard, and not Joe.
Didn't the creator of Street Fighter The First and also Fatal Fury say the character on the title was supposed to be a proto Terry Bogard? Or am I misremembering?
If true I think it'd be sick to bring him back as a Terry Bogard reference. Call him like Jerry Hogarth.
Pretty legit opportunity. Missed opportunity to not have the real obsure SF1 characters like Geki show up in the SF6 World Tour mode as mini bosses. I hope that is fixed though in SF6 season 2 and beyond
Great video. I love ninjas so it is criminal the ninjas in SF are so non-ninja looking(at least pop culture ninja looking). Geki would be a great character(s) to bring back as a counterpoint to Vega...but no, we have to get beyond terrible characters like Rufus because reasons.
Fffffff I never noticed the Freddie Mercury as eagle thing before how did i miss that???
Right time for Joe to make a return, having trained like crazy and be the boss of Street Fighter 7. It'll be a huge surprise.
It's not lost. You will be paying for them as dlc.
Interesting fact: Joe & Mike made a cameo in SF2's opening
That wasn't Joe and Mike in SF2 opening
@@wingbeck4563yes it was
Capcom has said that they were separate characters named Scott and Max.
Joe wasn't completely wasted - most of his moveset became Cody's in Final Fight. Cody just didn't do Joe's standing spinning backkick (he did his flying backkick though). Dee Jay however took that move and did his own spin.
The thumbnail was a pixelated George floyd 😨
Strange how Geki didn't make more appearances
Agreed. Great design. Maybe Capcom didn't want a pop culture looking ninja after Mortal Kombat came out????
@@mattm7798 yeah definitely and they put some of his design in Vega and Guy
Justice for Joe! We need him back! :P
Any chance on a Fatal Fury 1 lost characters video? Granted, there are only 3 characters from that game that have never been featured again.
Michael Max being the least popular…
Mike and Joe are the very definition of "generic street fighter", who could possibly want them back?, specially when we have Balrog and Cody, who are much better versions of them?.
You forgot that Chun Li mentions visiting Master Lee in Yang's ending in SSF4.
Does Joe punch Mike in the first few seconds of the SF2 intro?
Joe was inspired by the American martial artist Joe Lewis.
The need to bring back Eagle.
I played the pressure pads version in middle school and had no idea what I was doing 🤣
I also cosplayed as Retsu at Anime Expo years ago and a lone true SF fan knew who I was 😂
I always wanted Geki back
Who knew that the Street Fighter series pulled a reverse Waylon Smithers with Birdie?
Top hat gaming man!
I absolutely love Gen as a character and love playing with him.
Mike is still M.Bison/Balrog to me I don’t care if Capcom tries to separate the two. My theory is that Joe is Luke’s dad. Joe likes Star shaped things, also called the superstar. When Luke debuted he had a huge star motif before they removed it all in 6, he had eerie lines like I want to get better than that man (joe/dad). Geki trained Vega/Balrog noted by the same claw and arial fighting style he just mixed matador and ninjutsu with it. Fun fact ibuki is in fact a member of the geki clan, but was taken as a child to the clan she resides now due to the geki clan being evil. Lee is Jamie’s master/father in SF 1 lee style was said to be drunken boxing. Lee being the uncle of the twins makes sense why Jamie would call them his cousins plus his style in 6 being drunken boxing/break dancing. Capcom puts a lot of retcons in places where they should have stuck to their guns it’s like they don’t want honor SF1 properly sometimes especially the forgotten ones like retsu, geki, lee, and joe. I would like to see SF1 into a traditional fighting game.
Luke's dad's name was robert Sullivan and he died trying to help evacuate civilians from a terrorist attack .... which later inspired luke to join the military.... he later quit being a pmc or private military contractor and became a street fighter.... that is not to say that joe from street fighter 1 didn't inspire Luke !
@@Lupo32 I know who Luke dad was, I shouldn’t have wrote it like it was fact. I played his story in 5. It’s just a missed opportunity not to make Luke Joe’s son the inspiration was all there to connect all of the SF1 fighters to the new gen. What they did to Joe in final fight street wise was criminal, heck everyone was done dirty in that game.
Capcom should bring back Retsu and Geki.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Capcom revisit the “Slam Masters” series again in the future. Especially for a crossover fighter! 🤩
Henceforth, this Street fighter one character shall be known as Sleepy Joe
We already have Sleepy Joe at home (Joe Biden)
All those forgotten characters have potential to return in SF6 or 7, but it needs just character concept & design
Whats the name of that Final Fight Comic? I haven't seen that one yet
Udon?
This is a 5 min video with 20 mins of gas bagging.
Cool that SF has reached back out and incorporated some of these characters in the lore
'Fighting Street' should be an extra chapter in SF6, like an Origin story DLC
Im surprised capcom hasnt remade SF 1, and charge 80$, plus micro transactions.
i have this very first street fighter on ps3 and ps4 and i still play them today.
Eagle's character design was pretty much copied from the bad guy in the Bruce Lee movie, Fist Of Fury.
I always thought Birdie street fighter alpha design was so cool, idk I just like the whole tough biker look that characters like Birdie, Lobo, Ghost Rider, Kenshiro etc.
That, and the fact that these guys are depicted as strong fighters.
I doubt making Birdie black had anything to do with DEI; if your game's entire premise is travelling the world to beat people up, limiting your roster to a small handful of races would be boring.
Joe and Mike do appear for a second time, at the intro of SFII
agree
On Capcom’s website, they list the identity of the two fighters in the SF2 intro with names unrelated to Joe and Mike.
But my personal Head-canon is that it’s always been Joe and Mike which makes more sense given Joe was already seen in the SF1 intro.
That’s not Joe and Mike, they were separate characters named Scott and Max.
@@allhailme8457 This is why I like my head-canon better. It’s consistent with Joe punching through the brick wall in the SF1 intro.
