That lumber mill in Mag was the last choke point on Domination, so many players trying to push into one hallway, you could stand back and huck a grenade in and get like 10 kills per nade because everyone was just so stacked in there. It ended up being a deadlock where you couldn't push in and they couldn't push back because each team was just dumping explosives into that hallway to hold each other back

MAG was my home for many years. I spent all of my time on Raven. I watched that game grow. I was there from the very beginning. I formed a clan there with a few hundred members. Though most have moved on, I still talk with a few, and I'm even attending the wedding of one of them this year. I met so many amazing people who are great team builders and leaders from that game.
Domination may have been the highlight, but inquisition was one of my favorites, as well as acquisition. The game ran well for the hardware it was on, and my PS3 never gave out on me. It was such an amazing experience. And it was so good that it has ruined every single multiplayer experience since then. NOTHING compares to MAG. I've tried everything from PlanetSide to helldiver's. Absolutely nothing can touch MAG. The massive scale, the leadership roles, the huge fights over large swaths of territory. Battlefield hasn't even come close. It was a life changing experience that I'll forever be grateful for.

Companies would argue that when you buy a game, you're actually only buying a temporary license to play a digital IP, and that the publishers retain the right to retract that license at any time.
I would argue that that isn't the prudence that the gaming industry was built on, and thus isn't the popular understanding of the consumer market, and that, as such; gaming licenses need to be extended ad infinitum, with no right for publishers to retract without significant advanced warning to consumers who purchased the license.

    • @Hyrule409
      @Hyrule409 7 месяцев назад +16

I understand games being a "license" in that you can't redistribute them. I understand games like MAG where they're online only and the servers shutting down rendering them unplayable.
I've been PSN banned 5 times (cussing back at people who cuss me out in messages) and when you're PSN banned, you can't do ANYTHING besides play physical media. You can't update games. You can't access non-Sony applications like RUclips or Netflix. You can't go onto the PSN Store to download games that you own but aren't on your console storage. You literally lose everything even without agreeing to terms of service (you never agree to Sony ToS to access third-party applications or to make purchases through the store). That's where my problems are with the nu-definition of licensing.
If I ever get permabanned from my Playstation account (that I've had since Feb '08), I've got a plan.
      >make new account
      >buy all the games I owned digitally
      >download them onto my console storage
      >turn off internet connectivity to my console
      >call bank and rescind the charges; get my money back
      >Sony can't revoke my access to these games without my console pinging the internet to update the change
Afterwards, we're gonna see how far I can kowabunga this shit if it goes to court.

Thats not entirely accurate, the law is regional, but generally if you buy a physical copy, you own the game, if you buy a digital copy, you have a licence to play which can be withdrawn for any reason. This is one of the reasons companies are trying to get rid of physical media, something im dead set against. It seems every company out there wants to strip everyone of the few rights we have left as consumers.

While I was never a big fan of it, CS:GO was a significant one, because Valve just replaced the game with Counter Strike 2 without asking. The reason this is particularly annoying is that, at the same time as releasing CS2, they dropped Mac support. So not only did they delete a game that was paid for by real money (before it became free to play), they also blocked the people who use Macs from playing the replacement.

There are mods that bring back BF2 and BF2142, but you have to _own_ the game to play those (can't use cracked versions, even though the 2142 mod will crack your legit game to get around the DRM).

My favorite part was the full catalog of parts, just to make some interesting combos and see what worked, want a 32 Ford with an Olds 455 in it? Go for it, a 69 Charger with a 351 Windsor? The first few years were rough large due to faction imbalance of the maps. This cost the game lots of players as their faction lacked defensible maps.
