Thank You Daniil for such an excellent and beautiful performance of this concerto by Tzajkowski. You are brilliant inevery way in your way of playing the piano.Your playing makes a lot of people happy. I wish you the best of success in the future.
Finally Sviatoslav Richter has passed the mantle to Daniel, Champion of The Genius League. A standard unto himself, above and out of reach of any human jury.
Every time Daniil places his hands on the keyboard you know you are in for a musical treat! Such is the mastery and brilliance of this young man and I have followed him for a long time and knew the first time I saw him as a kid of 7 that he was born for Greatness!!! What a tremendous talent!!!
This is a solid performance. Daniils natural joy of playing is sweeping, he is a mature and sincere musician at a young age and he has, above all, personality. Here he provides passion and esp. in the second movement some excellent moments of delicate nuances. He will certainly play this concerto with even more profundity and control when he gains more experience.
If this concert was performed in 2011, as stated above, then Trifonov was 20 years old. He was born March 5, 1991. Twenty years old! We are very fortunate to have this virtuoso in our lives. There will not be another like him in our lifetimes, in my opinion. Unbelievable talent -- he lives every piece he plays -- sadness and pathos, strength, and lightness -- he is the piece he plays.
Tchaikovsky’s Concerto No 1 was the very first piano Concerto I heard in my life. I was not more than five years old. In the way of very young children, I would lie down next to the stereo and listen to it over and over again. I never knew it was possible. I still don’t. Danil Trifonov’s interpretation is as beautiful as the first time I ever heard it.
he is so young. Can he keep playing at this level? he is so gifted. but also a workaholic. to have attained this level of performance at so young an age. I cry when I hear him! play1
Dynamics is just insane !!! He keeps it in a good tempo especially the cadenza of the first movement second movement is beautiful third movement is even better BRAVO!!!!!!Daniil thanks for sharing!!!!!
SAME, Only Martha Argerich was able to put it into words “He has everything and more … tenderness and also the demonic element. I never heard anything like that,”
I absolutely love Daniil Trifonov. Amazing musician. You can see the passion in every movement. He makes the music come alive and I've never been touch more by a pianist in this day and age. Beautiful, remarkable work. I can't get enough. Many 17 year olds wouldn't enjoy or even appreciate what this great man does but he has captured my heart and I can say that I look up to his level of craft and the love he has for the instrument and music!
18:20 - 18:50 -- what a remarkable range of touch and color he has, from the most fragile delicacy to tremendous, deep-down power. This is such a rich interpretation. This was never my favorite concerto, but I'm really sold on this performance.
@ 32:10 , the cadenza should be played much faster--Argerich and Loudenitch did it best. This young men is a true talent. But I like his Chopin far more than his Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov. For this concerto, I really think Argerich owns it. I think he should have won the Chopin Competition. But his controversial win at the Tchaikovsky Competition was questionable by many critics. The Tchaikovsky concerto sounded more like Chopin than Tchaikovsky.
I will agree when it comes to the pristine interpretation a la Ioudinetch. However, as to winning "prizes".. what does this really .... MEAN? JUST. SAYING...
bravaLiz I love Loudinetch. He is one of the most underrated pianist of our time. And I also love that he is a good family man. He could have had a tremendous career. But he chose his family over fame. Argerich is technically unbeatable in the Tchaikovsky. But when it comes to passion, Loudinetch made me cried! I think he should have been the single winner of the Cliburn Competition instead of sharing it with Kern.
Vette gaddia I try to separate one's personal life with private life. However, since you opened up this "Pandora's Box".. I too will say that I made certain professional sacrifices for the sake of MY children. Seriously, how many famous female symphonic conductors can you name? I am unashamedly a Trifonov fan. Sorry. well.. not really.. hahaha... But as a former opera singer, it is similar to comparing a Callas to a Sutherland.... am wondering if this makes sense to you? Anyway, I appreciate your comment. All Good Wishes to you.... a fellow musician.... et Vive la musique!
He is in competition here and will go on to win of course including the grande prize, and this just a couple of weeks after winning the Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv. His career launched after these two back to back wins! I predict he will go on to leave all others in the dust. He is very special and you can feel it when he plays, so do not underestimate him, as he is a special gift from God!
And now, 5 years later, Artistic Director of numerous prestigious classical music institutions both in the U.S. and Europe and lately awarded the title Artist of the Year, rightly so in my opinion
How can people compare just born brilliant young with well known very experienced pianist , they never will be happy whoever comes along as great pianist !!!
+Vette gaddia in a competition with a programm of more than 3 hours within 10 days that's really logic that they can't play perfect! But music is not just about perfectness! And if you know trifonov you know that his technique is brilliant..
I would like to share this with everyone. Trifanov has written his first piano concerto.. It is called Trifanov plays Trifanov! It was performed in 2017 with the Detroit symphony orchestra. You could watch the genius at work!
+Alex Otto actually SJ Cho played so much better than him at this competition. Cho played almost flawlessly when Trifonov here played with obvious flaws. He won because he was Russian. I can imagine the ranks would be different had Cho and Yeol Son were both Russians.
+Shopeng DaPyanoman I am huge fan of Cho~ of course^^ but just this one I like Daniil its just my preference, I love all cho's play! You can see all my comments I left under Cho's videos here. AND I am going to go Cho's three concerts in Europe in May, and going to to Carnegie hall in NY, and Chamber Se-rise in SFO. Just this one only I like the best about Daniill. Cho's played better he did in Paris with Jung Myeng Hoon Conductor.I like Cho' s play this one later on in Paris.
I have never heard a Trifonov performance that was flawless. Being flawless is easy. Translating emotion through the instrument is what makes T. unique in his generation of pianists. And no one has his incredibly pearl-like beauty of touch. At least Marta Argerich says as much.

This concert left me speechless. Such passion, sadness and love… what can you say, Tchaikovsky
Daniil Trifinov is one of the greatest pianists the world will ever know. He is the real thing!
Мой лябимый пианист!Столько контрастных тембров!Один из величайших по пению за итструментом!Столько красок в его звуковой политре!Наслаждаюсь!!!
Tchaikovsky plays Trifonov. A true genius composer of our times. And this Tchaikovsky guy who is playing has a bright future ahead of him
I was waiting for this comment, thank you sir!

Peggy McCants EVGENNY KISSIN............
@@SarahJones-wy5us Kissin is technically a very fine pianist, but he pales to Trifonov.
