"[...] BR-KLASSIK : Here in Munich you will play Peter Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto, one of the most famous piano concertos ever. What makes this concert special, what is its secret?
Daniil Trifonov: There are so many dramaturgical juxtapositions and contrasts and dramatic changes in the play. It just feels very dramatic. And of course it means a lot to me personally, because I won the Tchaikovsky Competition with the piece.
BR-KLASSIK: Where does the B minor concerto rank in your private ranking of piano concertos?
Daniil Trifonov: For me, every concert is number one when it is played on stage. But a piece like this can also be a real challenge: you know it so well, it is often played by so many great artists. It's very difficult to find anything new in music. It takes extra work to get used to a piece like this and find a personal approach.
BR-KLASSIK: We Germans perceive this concert as typically Russian music. As a Russian, you can perhaps judge: Is this a cliché or does the concert really capture the Russian soul?
Daniil Trifonov: Of course, the musical language and atmosphere of the piece is heavily influenced by Russian culture. But not exclusively. In the middle of the second movement, for example, there is a very familiar French melody. So it's just Tchaikovsky's genius at work! He is of course influenced by the culture that surrounds him, but it also shows him as an independent composer. [...]"

I think, this is fascinating aswell in this so often heard Tchaikovsky concerto. To me, it sounds like a new Composition, fresh and inspiring ! This Maestro and Orchestra just great as allways !

In my humble opinion, when a great work like this is created by a Russian composer, it itself adds a lot to what is "Russian soul", it is not only captures Russian soul, it creates Russian soul and what later is perceived as part of Russian identity.

@@elisabethbaumer-sn8go I listened two more times, one more time Yeol Eum Son, who got the second place at the same competition performing the same concerto and then I listen again Daniil. I prefer Yeol Eum Son, her excellent technic and more reasonable tempo (and believe Tchaikovsky didn't write in bombastic tempo, as it became fashionable to play even during his life), give me enough space and time to contemplate, to fill through every note, while Daniil overwhelms me, knocks me down, his performance becomes almost superhuman and even more like athletic competition of virtuosity. That is probably how List used his devilish skill sending shock waves through concert halls of Europe. You are probably German; German audience is very sophisticated; the reaction was the same as in Russia - insane.

Trotzdem werde ich Ihnen antworten. Ich habe mir dasselbe Konzert Ihrer Favoritin zum Teil angehört , und - - nein, ich kann Ihre Meinung nicht teilen. Mir fehlt das, was nur Daniil Trifonov hat. Nebst vielem anderen vor allem der Anschlag der Tasten mit dem er seine unerreichte Vielfaeltigkeit der Klangfarben erreicht. Dazu benutz er wie kein anderer mit größter Sensibilität auch die Pedale. Er spielt auf einem ganz anderen Niveau.
Aber jeder Zuhörer hört und fühlt anders, was ganz normal ist. Warum suchen Sie überhaupt meine Bestätigung , wenn Sie doch Ihre Lieblings Pianistin haben ? Ich würde niemals im Konzert Video eines anderen Pianisten dessen Fans zu überzeugen versuchen, dass mein Favorit besser ist. Warum auch ! Es darf doch jeder seinen Favoriten haben , für den er empfänglich ist.
Ich hoffe, Sie verstehen mich , auch wenn mein Deutsch vom Google Übersetzer eventuell nicht genau das schreibt was ich sagen wollte. ❤

Sans doute la plus belle interprétation de ce concerto, œuvre majeure de la musique classique. Des ruptures de tempo inhabituelles, au bénéfice de l'expressivite. Et une sonorite parfaite des cordes de l'orchestre qui accompagnent à merveille le piano, tour à tour agité et tout en tension, puis serein et apaisé. Une merveille !

А я год назад открыла для себя Исполнения гениального Алексея Султанова. И никакого другого пианиста после этого не хочется слушать. Слишком велика разница . Алексей недосягаем и в целом, и по энергиям, и техника ошеломительная. Особенно из разных исполнений этого концерта Чайковского Алексеем меня восхищает исполнение с Далласским симфоническим Оркестром( 1995 г. , Канал carevnarakuna).

Há muito tempo que queria reescutar essa muridé Tchakovski. Adoro essa entrada solene do compositor russo.
One readily sees why Trifonov won the Tchaikovsky competition. His playing is so cerebral you can almost hear his thoughts right along with the music. His Piano Concerto is an intriguing work, skillfully written and orchestrated and it deserves to enter the standard repertoire. I've written a Piano Concerto myself, No 2 in C minor Op 2 that sadly will never enter the repertoire, much less the standard repertoire.

My first time watching this. What a wonderful performance that made me forget I'd ever heard this concerto before! Bonus - in the rehearsal bits at the end, there is a beautiful reflection of blue sky and clouds on the piano!

He also plays marvelously Chopin, there is a collection of two dozen etudes. I think he played at the Tchaikovsky competition in one of the tours in 2011.

В детстве мне очень нравился этот концерт и в ранней юности,а позднее он стал для меня заезженной пластинкой,шлягером.В 2011 я услышала этот нелюбимый концерт в исполнение главного призера конкурса Чайковского в Петербурге-- Даниила Трифонова.И это был восхитительный концерт,сыгранный гениальным юным музыкантом под управлением того же дирижера.

Очень трудно исполнять такие известные вещи. Привыкаешь. Но исполнение Трифонова меня всколыхнуло, напомнило то, как это должно быть - свежо, сильно, юно, как майская гроза. Я всегда воспринимал эту вещь как триумф над коротким трагическим моментом, сильным, но кратким. Гроза на Ленинских Горах, я молод, любовь, в моих объятиях юная пианистка, впереди концерты, ее и чужие, все получается и все впереди!

How Daniil achieves percussive attack on the sforzandi by throwing the weight of his whole body into it visibly bouncing in place is amazing. Smart to use gravity and not exhaust yourself.

i totally agree with you especially about using gravity and body weight and i say the back to attack the teeth but i have to say unfortunately the timbre is not tchaikovsky timbre and it is very thin and cloying. unnecessary haste, weak phrasing. It looks/sounds like he wants to impress instead of play. In short, this was not a good performance.

Does he play too fast? His technic is amazing, and it is a show piece of his amazing talent. It is like probably List did to impress audience; people say young ladies would sometimes faint listening to him.
He never plays for Show Off. And it's not too fast at all .

Vielleicht fehlt es an Ihrer Empfänglichkeit für sein gereiftes Spiel. Dirigenten und Orchester lieben ihn !

Tut mir leid wenn mein vorheriger Kommentar etwas agressiv war,möchte aber betreffs "dominant pianistisch" doch noch erwähnen , dass dies im Widerspruch ist zu seinen häufigen Kammermusik Auftritten (in denen er sich angemessen zurückhält) stehen würde . Kürzlich war er mit dem Cellisten Gauthier Capuchon auf Europa Tournee. Die beiden Ausnahme Musiker hatten ein begeistertes Publikum in vollen Sälen und die Presse war voller Lob .😊 Sorry für meine Fehler !
