"Trifonov appeared for the Piano Concerto No. 5. But he didn't just play it. He lived through it: the first movement as a passionate drama, the second as pacification in inner peace and the finale as ecstatic liberation and celebration of life.
Completely heroic
Everything could be seen perfectly on the 28-year-old's face on the video wall. With flying hair and a full beard, Trifonov appears boyish on the one hand, but on the other hand he corresponds to all conceivable Western Russia clichés of the holy fool and the Dostoyevsky character who appears in the book.
But the drama of Piano Concerto No. 5 was not only played out in his facial expressions, it was also audible. It makes sense to understand the last movement of this concerto as an intensification of the first. But it is almost impossible because a pianist needs a technical and physical sovereignty that only very few people have.
Trifonov also did not lose himself in the thoughtfulness with which many performers democratize the so-called "Emperor" concert in the English-speaking world. He relied entirely on the heroic tone and confident momentum. The fire, which never went out, was infectious: Trifonov was celebrated violently - by Odeonsplatz standards. He thanked him with a virtuoso piece, the Presto Finale from Beethoven's piano sonata in E flat major op. 31, "The Hunt"."

The soloist on the second day is star pianist Daniil Trifonov - who once again justifies the cult around him. As always, an experience: his almost casually superior virtuosity, paired with an almost infinitely multifaceted sound spectrum and an extraordinary phrasing sensitivity. In the middle movement, Trifonov succeeds in commanding an entire area of 8,000 people with literally individual tones wrapped in delicate pianissimo spheres and completely captivating the listeners with his lyrical spell. The god of classical music also has insight and prevents any disturbing ambient noise in precisely these passages. In addition, in the outer movements there are sparkling scales and arpeggios strung together like a string of pearls. It's always amazing how this young man delivers top performances, performance after performance, with the precision of a Swiss watch."

I do agree.
My preference is to never buy any products being pushed either radio, TV, streaming services. Make it a point to bankrupt the advertisers. We all got away from network TV because of the proliferation of ads. Now they are assaulting us from every conceivable place. Put them out of business.

What a beautiful recording, what a beautiful site to make recordings!
To play outdoors - how is it possible? The colonnade gives some sound-reflection, but a piano, which is played outdoors, is notoriously giving a weak sound be it a grand or not, so there must be a microphone I guessed before looking into the details - and lo and behold, yes, there was. Such a fine way to share the joy to a large public!
He plays with the joy that this masterpiece deserves!!!

Dieses Konzert ist mein musikalisches Highlight dieses Herbstes - ein MUSS es taeglich zu hoeren und sehen
Die Splelfreude aller Musiker ist ueberwaeltigend ! Ein strahlender Daniil, in seinem hinreissenden Spiel voellig entrueckt in der Musik Beethovens , mit enormer Passion und auch tiefster Zaertlichkeit, geniesst es offensichtlich ,derart schoen vom Orchester begleitet zu sein. Der Dialog ist reinste Schoenheit , unterbdrr Leitung des souveraenen Dirigenten !
Die Kamerafuerung ist sehr gut, auch oefters auf die meisterlichen Instrumentalisten gerichtet , und den schoenen Odeonsplatz mit dieser gigantischen ,aber aufmerksamer und ruhiger Zuhoerersschaft.
Das Encore nach dem tosenden Applaus, " con Fuoco" ,von Dsniil mit so viel Feuer gespielt ( ich wuerde sagen : " Rocking Beethoven " ) ich denke Der grosse Beethoven haette seine helle Freude !

What a great performance by the orchestra and conductor to provide for this amazing pianist! And note for note, passage by passage the technique in service of this music is sublime. I wouldn’t have thought another Emperor would have been such a rich experience. Thanks. And BTW has another pianist since Rubinstein seemed to ENJOY playing so much?
