This is simply awe-inspiring. I've loved this concerto ever since my childhood, when I first heard it recorded by Leonid Kogan in the 1950s. Since then, I've heard many different performances, but I've never heard a better one than this. While listening to it, I kept forgetting to breathe. Hahn's interpretation of the music is sensitive, thoughtful and courageous, her technical mastery is complete, and the orchestra keeps up with her both technically and musically. Wonderful!

Major props to the team that captured the audio, filmed from all angles, and the editor that it all together who actually knew what they were doing. Always seemed to show the exact perfect tight angle or distant view at exactly the right time. And I’ve listened to this concerto before a few times, I don’t think it was Hilary or maybe it was just an older performance? But something about this one from the very beginning was just different and I don’t know music enough to say what it is exactly. All I can say is it sounded prettier. Hilary sounded incredible and even the rest of the orchestra. This is the best Tchaikovsky concerto I’ve ever listened to. Am I right in saying that this performance sounds different and somehow more beautiful? I don’t know music that much lol so maybe I’m wrong but this is my favorite so far.

His phrasing and articulation during the legato parts were absolutely perfect. Sometimes though, it felt like him and Hilary were clashing with their dynamic interpretations. The whole concert, Hillary was making bombastically quiet dynamic choices; which I absolutely loved. She is a genius. But yeah, at one point Hilary was playing the most delicate melody, pianissimo, and he jumped in fortissimo on his arpeggios and I would be like "bruhhh," the entire orchestra is playing piano to match her choice, so all I can hear are your ornamental arpeggios!! She then crescendos up to forte, and ideally, he would have too, but idk if he could've gotten any louder 💀. Immediately after that, the flute came in to take over the arpeggios and was able to match her style perfectly; it was heaven. But yeah this piece is heavy for first clarinet so props to him for an otherwise amazing job. I think sometimes orchestra members, especially winds, can tend to overproject on solos, especially on string solo pieces.

It’s honestly incredibly difficult to describe to anyone that hasn’t played a stringed instrument how extraordinarily difficult it is to play the way Hillary did at 36:25
Truly, it may sound pretty simple to play the same notes faster and faster, but the level of control over tone, in addition to the dynamics displayed were truly incredible. Makes it probably my favorite part in this whole piece in all honesty.

For me this is why I can hear this consert in a new context, and therefore love it so much. This variation of tempi becomes an eye-opener for me, can it be played this way? Yes, and the way Hilary and orchestra under Andrés leading play this is for me some sort of a miracle.
