Young Hilary Hahn played perfectly. Older Hilary Hahn is starting to become a legend.
Amen.
jean de la croix "Older" is more apt than "old," so I give you much credit. Such spirit as is hers knows the pangs and pleasures of growth, yet ever ripens.
Usually it's the other way around.
James Rockford why ? Look at Picasso for exemple, he started by mastering the technique and made it totally perfect and then he developed his own style
The change is not so drastic here but it seems Hahn's style is changing, though her technique is still perfect
She Already is a legend
Hilary Hahn's greatest talent is the ability to give every note and detail of a piece its due. She never overlooks anything for the sake of passion or drama. And, yet, she never wants for that drama either, because as she plays a piece so straight the piece's own drama shines that much brighter.
ja, ganz genau!
I love how sparingly the full force of the orchestra is used in this piece, it adds so much drama when they come crashing in like a breaking wave.
Agreed
Somethings not right here ? This has had 2.6 million views and I've watched it 2.7 million times ? Seriously though - this is absolute perfection from start to finish.

If you can imagine growing up with your mother playing this piece in the living room, you can imagine my childhood. And she continued playing till she couldn't play to the highest level, when she was 96. Now when I hear the violin, it's liking hearing my mother in the room, singing to me through the violin music she so masterfully played. It brings me joy, and tears to my eyes, and an a heavy heart knowing I shall never see her again.
That's a very nice memory. Probably my late mums favourite. Not a musician though... a graphic artist

A tribute to your mother.
❤
But she is with you when you hear the music. That makes her alive in your heart! Bless!
My late father used to hum parts of the 3rd movement, and I never knew what it was. I only found out by accident after he died - now I have found the finest way to conjure up memories of him. Thanks to all the players here - but Hilary Hahn - I see you in a new light.

Sorry for your loss but this is such a wholesome way to remember him :'(
How lovely. Sometimes we do hum a theme but do not know what it is. My favourite 'hum' was from 'Finlandier'

Doctor: you have 26 mins left to live

*spends my last 45 secs crying because of how beautifully mesmerizing it was*
I would spend the 45 seconds trying to load this up on my poopy Android phone then cry during the performance near the end for efficiency. 😭
After listening to this, I would live some more. Perhaps the doctor did not know about this medicine.
without hesitation yes! 🤩
The last 26 mins surely come someday in your life. Then you can enjoy Hillary's Bruch again. But I hope you would live 99 years.

How nice!!! Congrats!! What a strange coincidence! My cousin used to play there and then he moved up - Vienna Philharmonic now.
The Frankfurt radio symphony orchestra is one of the finest I have ever heard. The musicians are totally focused on what they are doing, and how to improve what they are doing every day. This is a rare attitude even amongst the leading orchestras but inevitable if you want to stay at the top. So good luck to your father that he has this tremendous opportunity. And under Andrés Orozco-Estrada, the orchestra is climbing new heights with every project. So much love and passion for the best of all music!
@@bjorndyno2175 This orchestra is probably connected to heaven.
I couldn’t sleep, thinking about this piece. It’s weird, I was so relieved that I could leave the violin behind when I entered college. It was such a painful aspect of my life for so long, yet I’m only realizing how rewarding it was after I’ve put it down for good. Thinking about all the time I spent trying to perfect this piece and hating myself over it hurts but also makes me smile. Music was really all I had. And it’s still so beautiful, enough to keep me up. Now I’m here listening to it in full for the first time in years. It’s 2 am.
Hoping you are finding joy and purpose ekdud! G Ire
I did almost give up on the violin too. Many times at that. You can still see a couple of hairless bows lying around my house too. Yet I keep coming back to it. It's a tough process of unlearning perfectionism on my part as comparing myself to soloists was nothing but a pitfall for a mere hobbyist like me.
I agree, the violin is such a difficult instrument to play, yet thankfully we still have the pure pleasure of listening to the beautiful perfection of Hilary Hann.
@@paullittle5200 in my (very) layman's opinion it's by FAR the hardest instrument to truly master, and she is the epitome of someone who has. In a world full of incredible soloists (Hadelich, Enes, Vengerov, Kavakos, Jansen et al,) she somehow stands alone IMHO, truly made me fall in love with the instrument and made me rediscover my passion for Classical music. 'Goodwill to all men!' to quote Mark Corrigan lol, cheers!🥂

Rarely do you see a violinist become one with their violin, stunning, beautiful performance
You are right, she makes a violin sing.
You can tell also how the conductor is responding with enthusiasm to her playing. How he absolutely enjoys playing with her.
I love how at 2:00 she gives a nod to the violas like "Wow! You came in on time!"
You bad man! But don't tell them I keep my jewelry in a viola case at home because it is cheaper than theft insurance.
for those who consider her robotic, you must watch this performance.
Erik my opinion is that the violas entered with considerable gusto and brio even, which she seemed to like! her lovely smile at the viola players was a signal of her delight at the sound and impact they produced. It almost looked like "yes, I like that!" only my opinion of course.

Incredible fire, tone, projection, stage presence, Intonation, interpretation, bow and finger technique,
She is the world's best and shall go down in history as being just that. Her repertoire is profound and vast. I saw her last April in San Francisco and she is just stunning!
I thoroughly agree, Hilary's Mendelssohn Violin concerto in e Op64 with FRSO is totally seminal. Beyond flawless. Awesome, is an understatement.
I just saw Hilary perform Dvorak’ s Am Concerto in Salt Lake City last night and it was outstanding. She is 6 or 7 months pregnant and looked radiant in a beautiful gown. She was given 4 standing ovations and said goodbye afterwards with a very cute wave to the capacity house. I said hello afterward in the lobby and she gave me her autograph. It’s only an illegible scribble but from from a magic hand and magical human being. Tomorrow she is off to Germany for more concerts!

I had the good fortune of meeting Ruggiero Ricci and his wife Julia in 1999 when he was performing in Malaysia. We had 3 meals together and upon being asked he replied that Hilary Hahn was among the best of her generation. I had a vinyl of his rendition of this concerto and he graciously autographed for me. I thanked him profusely. i dedicated a poem for him. Me, a fiddler, not a true violinist--domiciled in Melbourne. First heard Bruch's Number 1 in 1960 as an arts undergrad at University of Malaya--60 years ago! Best wishes to all music lovers! We need music in this perilous time. Isn't Hilary marvellous?

She's loving it because the orchestra is matching her pace so perfectly! One of the best performances of all time!
This has to be one of the best ever performances of this incredible concerto. Whoever thinks Hilary Hahn is technically brilliant but plays without emotion - watch this and eat your heart out! I was in bits for most of and I've heard many recordings, ever since I was a child and my father, who was a violinist, would play early recordings and flood our house with its awesome power to stir the soul. Astonishing performance by all here.
Yep, sounds like a machine. All technique...
I honestly never understand why some people dislike her playing because of a lack of emotion. Are they intimidated merely for the music being played almost perfectly? Are they confusing her music with her supposedly "robotic" stage presence? I will never get it. Each of her notes is full to the brim, to perfection of which I can bawl my eyes out, completely overwhelmed by the eargasm..., and people will go on to say that she sounds like a machine. Yes, if a machine can make me cry like a little bitch then I will take it over any human musician anyday
@@grabsmenchew don’t say eargasm now I’m revolted
Hilary a “machine? No. The influence of the media harping on robotics and AI may be seeping into the zeitgeist. But these critics overlook her body language and subtleties that need no excessive facial expression. As a musician myself I see her capacity to concentrate on the music itself. Recently I read that we in this gory twenty first century have much to learn from 19th century composers like Bruch, like Mendelssohn. And it was finding Ms Hahn performing the Mendelssohn that awakened my core being. How can I keep writing folk-blues and rock and roll with the knowledge that a being as sublime as Hilary Hahn lives among us?
I once forwarded a youtube of HH performing the Mendelssohn to a sick friend who happens to be a side person in a well known
Zydeco band down in bayou country. Seems it caused her to bemoan the style of “fiddle” she plays. That was not my intent.
This is my definitive performance. Amazing that she played with such intensity, timbre, rubato, vibrato...everything is right. This piece not only touch my heart, but also my soul.
Agree, I personally enjoy this more than the Chung/Kempe or Jansen/Chailly recordings. Mostly because of Hahn's performance, of course, but also the orchestra has some really fantastic phrasing in the first movement.

To some, perfection is a flaw, or something false. But this is real. How is it possible to produce such a beautiful, musical, shimmering sound without fuss and without thrashing around? Well look at her hands. Especially her left hand. A simple, unflustered, perfect position on nearly every note. Everything is balanced, inch perfect, with amazingly efficient movements. No drama, no scratching, no over-playing, no ugly sounds. Just pure unadulterated direct musicality delivered with disarming simplicity that hides years and years of fantastic training and musical intelligence. Just watching and listening to her is worth a hundred lessons.
Amen to that! 🎻💙

People always forget the technique of the right hand. That does the magic, her technique on her left hand is more of a tool. Hilary might be one of the best virtuosos today.
copybook perfection executed with such apparent ease... G Ire
The great ones make it look so easy, and that's what's always impressed me about Hilary Hahn. She rips through those incredibly difficult fingerings looking like she's barely trying.
Which classical musician doesn't do this? Facial expression doesn't count btw. I believe this is one of those things were a lack of knowledge in the specific field creates some kind of almost superstitious belief. Sorry but I'm just putting this theory out there. Show me a counter example.
Pew TheBIind As a 35+ year musician myself, I can tell you without batting an eyelash that when you're "in the zone" you aren't one whit concerned about how people perceive your physical body, assuming you are well dressed and not gyrating uncontrollably.
David Floren
Yes? ...so? Who claimed that? I didn't. He didn't.
His claim was that "great ones" like Hilary play difficult stuff making it look easy. I claimed that anyone who plays difficult stuff well makes it look easy.
Pew TheBIind I wasn't making a new claim. I was just agreeing with and adding to your comment that facial expressions don't count. I did this to affirm your claim and to further your cause (i.e., educating the ignorant). As you may know, critiquing top musicians' physical movements (and their looks) is a big subgenre in the online classical music community. I'm more interested in hearing than seeing, so I wouldn't care if Ms. Hahn were dressed in tin foil and garbage bags and hanging upside down from a trapeze, as long as she were still able to produce the same audio output.
Alright.
Estrada deserves a lot of credit for this remarkable performance also.

Yes, the pinnacle Bruch--like climbing a mountain and finding it's not the fireworks but the amazing shades of completely nuanced and natural colourings, the sheer mastery of her vision of the whole that makes you utterly convinced that this is how it was meant to sound.
Well said! I would have had trouble finding the words, but you have it exactly right. Many thanks!
You can see how she feels the music as if it speaks to her. She smiles, rolls her eyes, frowns, smirks and more and if you switched off you audio you could still follow the emotion of the piece just through these expressions.

Always amazing how modest those classical musicians are despite the level of difficulty classical music is. Meanwhile a singer with a 4 chords song will jump on the stage being like I'm the star.
They’re there for different crowds. Also classical musicians are not modest. Well not most. But it is true that most classical musicians refine their technique for decades.
@Woodland I think pop stars are victims of their own work, so to say. Most of them start out as teens, which is a vulnerable and still developmental age. Of course they are gonna become cocky if all they hear from 12 yo+ "wow you are so good and talented" - doesnt matter if they play pop or classic, the surroundings influence the human. And if a young violinist is always told "you are the best there is!" he will act like it and become a cocky btch.

@Newsharp True, yes, Maxim looks a bit tense but I don't think Ray is better than Maxim. Smh. In the music world, I think you can't call anybody "better" than so and so. Also, we musicians always, almost, view everything in a biased manner when looking at music. In my human, biased opinion, that version of Maxim's Sibelious touches me so much. Maybe I am the biased one ;).For another example, I absolutely love hearing Ray's Mendolssohn Violin concerto and Sumina's too, but someone may critic it and say that it was too blunt and such. Also, Maxim was "young" at that time and has probably grown so much in experience and in knowledge. If you have seen the Menhuen competition master classes, A boy plays the Carmen Fantasies and actually, Vengerov tells the prodigy to relax.
It's just my opinion and im not a violinist (oboist and pianist) so yea ;-)

G Stapleton her style changes with age
Have you heard her Chostakovitch concerto ?
Perhaps becoming a mother has added something to her playing- it certainly hasn't detracted from it!
i totally agree. she has become a lot better: when she was young it was mainly technique and style, now it is soul and technique. i still prefer batiashvili and janssen of todays violinists, but this is quite performance i have to admit!
I'm sure she'll be glad to know that you're now a "real fan" - her life was probably incomplete until she knew it. Wow - thank you for completing her.
She has gotten jaw dropping good at this point.
Isn't the Human Spirit Wonderful.. and so Beautiful? Rhetorical question, of course! Again... it caused me to cry with sheer elevated JOY! Thank you!
Just wow!!! This performance is outstanding! No words! 😮
Orozco-Estrada extracts the best of the orchestra without ever stressing.
Ms. Hahn radiating energy!
Put this on to fall asleep, end up hyperfocused and even more awake searching for more brilliant violin playing.
There's absolutely no one on earth who can produce such incredible power from a violin, and at such a minimum of needless dramatic flair
I love Hahn’s intensity and laser focus….and her sound, and musicality, and the way she makes old concerti seem new again.
I love Hillary Hahn! There is something very special in her playing. I played 4th horn in that concerto in 1959. Carolla Glen was the soloist. I have loved that concerto ever sense and Hahn makes it sing as never before.
The third movement is just amazing
if you liked this here is the best bach´s cello suite version ever ruclips.net/video/E_BISaJ0iSI/видео.html enjoy!
My favorite violin concerto, performed by my favorite violinist. This is a seriously incredible performance!
I love this concerto!
It is always an incredible joy to perform it... Well done Hillary! 🎻🎉🎶
Perfect technique
Perfect sound
Full of emotion
She is the best
演奏も圧巻だが、弾き終わった後の指揮者やオケに対する立ち振る舞いも素敵ですね。
Madre mía Hilary..... Quien no toque el violín no sabrá nunca apreciar la gesta que hace interpretando este concierto en directo. Majestuoso!
Yet another assured, moving, nay, STUNNING performance from Queen Hilary. We are so blest, not to say privelidged to hear this young genius!
A word for the conductor and the orchestra, both are magnificent here. As for Hilary Hahn, what to say ? she is amazing, as ever. Not only a great violonist, but a wonderful musician. Her pleasure to -- literally -- play with the orchestra is visible and our pleasure comes also from this marvelous alchemy. Thanks for posting this treasure.
The POWER and beauty of that orchestral return around 6:20 after Hahn's performance gets you so focused on her magnificent, sumptuous virtuosity. My favorite moment in a performance full of favorite moments. This is definitely the best recording/video of this Bruch concerto that I've heard. Hahn's execution throughout is (as always for her) masterful and inspiring, don't get me wrong; but the orchestra is equally on-point here and that's what makes this the gold standard performance.
That crazy accelerando lets the orchestra enter at the exact right tempo. And the dynamic - perfect.
Uwielbiam 🙂
Hilary i Bruch - cudowne wykonanie. Ten koncert wnosi radość do mojego życia.
This is the most beautiful and moving violin concert ever! And this lady, Hilary Hahn, wow, she plays like an angel.
I totally agree! if you haven't seen her Sibelius (the France Musique version with Mikko Franck conducting), do yourself a favor! Cheers
