    Thanks for the comparison. I am hopeful Cricut will come out with the ability to work offline because I believe the Maker is THE better machine. When I bought an embroidery machine years ago a lady in the shop told me to buy a unit that was several steps above the level I was currently at so I wouldn't be very disappointed. My hubby bought me the top of the line unit and we have never regretted it. You never know when your interests are going to change and go in different directions.

    I really like the look/feel of the Cricut machines...I feel like it is a solid design and quality machine; however, I love the design software in the Cameo (which I own) because I am not limited to their patterns and can create my own unique designs (I have a Graphic Design/Multi-Media background). It is a must for business - doing something different than your competition. If I was a new crafter, Cricut would be the best choice....easier to use/learn software.....perfect for the home user.

    I got the Cricut Maker in February and completely regret it. I got it to use mainly for vinyl/various paper cutting. I regrettably did not start using the machine until recently and encountered so many issues. My main three gripes are 1)online design studio that freezes on me constantly and is just slow and I have fast internet. 2)The limited print then cut page space, its ridiculous how many paper space I waste because of the limited size. 3) The most frustrating is the misalignment when cutting, I'm not sure if it's my machine and a defect but I can not for the life of me cut anything out aligned. Everything cuts too far to the left, I tried to adjust the page on the mat to account for this but didnt work. Anyways, I'm in contact with Cricut regarding this, hoping that it gets resolved because I have a machine that I cant use. I was so frustrated and really needed something to assist with my paper goods orders and ended up getting the Silhouette Portrait at a discount and I am so impressed with it. Cuts beautifully and I love love love the design studio and the ability to outline what you are cutting, setting offsets and insets, being able to color code lines to cut and have the machine adjust blade automatically to cutting those lines in one go instead of having to reload, and I love the ability to use all the page during a print and cut. If the little portrait can do all this, I so regret not getting the cameo 3 instead.

    • @dustydreamer424
      @dustydreamer424 5 лет назад +2

      @guess what Hey there! One of the main difference is the size of the machines. The portrait takes 8.5 inch wide x 11in or smaller paper, the mat is 8.5x12in. The Cameo takes in 12x12 sheets. If you will be cutting out images that big or projects that require that size paper I'd say go with the cameo. You can do alot more should you choose to because of paper size. However if you dont need that 12x12 size you can do alot with the portrait. I went with the portrait since currently I dont have a need to do anything bigger than the 8.5x11 and since I spent so much on the Maker. Just an update though, Cricut refunded me for the Maker which was so amazing. Thier customer service was phenomenal and helpful, so grateful I was able to send the machine back. I am holding out for the Silhouette Cameo 4 that's coming out :) Hope that helps! I love the Portrait, it's got a small form factor and so far has no let me down with all the stuff I had it do. You cant go wrong with either choice!

    • @dustydreamer424
      @dustydreamer424 5 лет назад

      @guess what From my research it seems to just be improved on a number of things. One main feature is the cutting force is much more than Cameo 3. This is useful if you plan on cutting other hefty materials like leather or balsa wood. There is a dual-motor instead of single as well and the cutting speed is 3x faster. Honestly, if you are going to be working mainly with paper then I see no reason to not purchase the Cameo 3. Personally, I am just a techy person and love all the bright new shiny upgrades that come out. The Portrait has not let me down as of yet, it's small and fits my needs. I haven't got the need to purchase a bigger machine so although I say I'm waiting for the 4, I most likely will not be purchasing it any time soon. I recommend looking at the Cameo 3 and 4 youtube videos. There are a lot as well as a google search will give you sites where people compare the two. If you want to wait for the 4 because you like it more, then go for it. If you find that the Cameo 3 more than suits your need and use then I say go for that one. With the Silhouette, I say you can't go wrong with any :)

    • @dustydreamer424
      @dustydreamer424 5 лет назад

      @guess what I think that's a great choice! I would have gotten that too if I didnt have the Portrait. Enjoy it!!!

      @@dustydreamer424 glad i read your experience. Quick question..i have my own programs that i create my own designs. Would i be able to transfer those images to the program that comes with portrait? Reason I'm asking is there was another review saying something about that but it was unclear

    • @dustydreamer424
      @dustydreamer424 5 лет назад +1

      @@MegaChevy65 Hi! I believe you can. I usually create the original image in illustrator or photoshop, sometimes on my ipad and send to my computer for touch up. I save my image files as png or svg (you have to pay for svg add on I think for the silhouette program which I didnt mind doing since I loved the program so much) and am able to import it into the silhouette program with no issues. From there you can manipulate the image if needed (size, quantity on a page, adjust cut lines if you want a white line around the image or want it cut precisely on your draw line, etc). Just to be sure, you can download the silhouette program online for free and import the images you are creating to ensure you can without issue. I could be wrong but I dont think you need to purchase the machine before hand to get the program.

It seems a little larger than my original design, and since I don't have the actual machine to test it on, it may be problematic, but I will keep working on it to see if I can figure out if the mistake was mine or theirs. Which would be the most time efficient to use? Also, If I want to cut out phrases, or words on vinyl. Do I need to do them at the same time, or is there a way to cut faster? Now 11 years later I am just getting around to thinking about using it. Because it is so out dated and can not be hooked to Internet I am seriously thinking of purchasing the Explorer Air 2 because that is the only machine that still offers to be able to use the cartriges. I guess I don't want to feel my original purchase was a loss because so old but would like to stay with the times also. Like to see what your opinion would be on this situation and where you feel best place to purchase one would be if you agree with my thinking....and what price do you feel they should run. I was shocked when you told of price of Maker as I have never seen lower than 399, in Upstate NY. By the way I also am an Independent Designer for Chalk Couture....more as a Hobbyist though. That is my problem....I have too many Hobbies!!!!!! Would appreciate your feed back. Jo in NY.

      Jo Terwilliger Hi! You can get an adapter for your machine to sync all your cartridges to your software.
      But yes, now the expression is outdated. I would recommend an air or Maker!

      Depending on what you want to do. The Silhouette software is so much better then the cricuit. If you are gonna do any fabric or would then get maker. But cameo came out with the cameo 4 which is like the maker. But if you just doing stickers I say the cameo one. Or get the maker and use the Silhouette software. What I do now as i don't have money for new machine

    I am really hoping that cricut will make a standalone software for PC. it is seriously a pain in the butt to have to go online just to cut vinyl. What happens when the internet is down, do i take my cricut with me to the nearest starbucks and cut my design there?

    Thank you very much for the comparison! It was great and unbiased and addressed just about every question I have except this one (I have been looking for the answer for a couple hours); do either of these machines cut longer sizes (ie for a sign that would be 46”) so it’s all on one piece of vinyl? Or will they have to be separate sheets? I already found that the cameo doesn’t require that you have a cutting board behind it like the Cricut does so does that mean I can cut longer?

    • @MakersGonnaLearn
      @MakersGonnaLearn  5 лет назад +1

      Great question! It would have to be multiple pieces of vinyl. Hope this helps.

      Makers Gonna Learn yes it does! Too bad though lol I saw a tutorial on a sign done a year ago n she said she used the cameo (not sure version because she had the vinyl made already), it looked like it was all one piece so that’s why I was searching for the answer! Thank u for getting back so quickly ☺️

    I ordered a Cricut Maker on 2/26. As of 3/9, the order was still in a processing status on their website. During that time I actually ordered (on 3/2) AND received (on 3/6) a Silhouette Cameo with no issues. So I called Cricut to cancel. The first rep I spoke with left me to die on hold for 25 minutes. The second rep I spoke with told me that she had cancelled the order and I'd be receiving an email about it. She straight up lied. The order was not cancelled. The company must threaten its employees with bad consequences for cancelling orders, that's the only reason this kind of thing happens.
    I emailed Cricut customer service and requested they fix it. They sent me back a copy/paste email saying "Good news, your order has been shipped! We're closing your ticket as resolved." Now I've had to go to my bank, dispute the charge, cancel my card and wait two weeks for a new one because of their dishonesty. Otherwise I'd have to mail back the Cricut at my own cost and pay a 20% restocking fee ($85) because they refused to cancel my order.
    I emailed the CEO and VP of Sales at Cricut last night explaining all of that and stating that I will either refuse the shipment or, if it's dropped off when I'm not home, hold it until they send me a return shipping label. As of yet I haven't received a reply.
    The whole experience has been an extreme hassle and aggravation from the start and I can't wait to be done with it. The company hasn't done one right or honest thing since the moment I placed my order. I couldn't in good conscience recommend anyone buying from them or continuing to deal with them. Especially considering the fact that the Silhouette is cheaper, can do everything the maker can do, and arrived quickly and with zero hassle.
    My email exchange with Cricut:
    Your request summary is:
    Joseph Hackman
    Mar 9, 9:03 PM MDT
    I placed this order on 2/25/2020 and expected to receive it within a
    week. When I had not received it by 3/3/2020, I put in an order for one
    of your competitor's products instead - a Silhouette Cameo 4. That
    company got me their product by 3/6/2020, the same week.
    Today I called your company at 11:10AM Eastern U.S. time to cancel my
    order with you, since it was still in "Processing" status. The first person I
    spoke with, a man, talked with me for about three minutes and then
    asked to put me on hold while he checked on the order. He left me on
    hold for another 23 minutes without ever checking back. I hung up the
    phone and called back. The second time I got a woman who, after
    putting me on hold for 15 minutes, came back and assured me that the
    order was cancelled and that I would be receiving an email notifying me
    of the cancellation and the expected refund date.
    I used to work for Sprint, the phone company, where they played these
    same shitty games, so I took the precaution of recording my
    conversations with both of your representatives just in case this exact
    thing happened. Either your employees make commission based on a
    low cancel percentage metric or their employment is negatively
    impacted by a high cancel percentage, so they outright lie to customers
    or let them die on hold rather than process a cancellation. Your
    employees did both today, and both conversations were recorded by
    me on a second phone, which is legal in the state of Kentucky as long
    as one party is aware that the conversation is being recorded, and I was
    that party.
    Knowing full well that the woman I spoke with lied as soon as the
    words came out of her mouth, I checked back on your website to see
    that the order still showed as "Processing" instead of "Cancelled". I also
    took timestamped screenshots of that order page before and after my
    conversations with your employees. I wanted to pursue the issue
    further with your company via email, like I'm doing now, but I had to
    stop what I was doing and take one of my sons hours away to see a
    doctor, which took all day.
    I just returned home to find that the order now shows a status of
    "Shipped". Let me explain to you what that means to me.
    If your company had processed my order correctly, I wouldn't own a
    Cameo, but you didn't. If your company had processed my cancellation
    properly and honestly as you were supposed to have, perhaps I would
    have found that I didn't like my Cameo and wanted to try Cricut again,
    or that later on I wanted to try Cricut again anyway to expand the
    variety of my work. But you didn't do that. Instead of making a friend or
    a potential FUTURE customer, you chose to make an enemy instead.
    There is no way I am keeping your machine at this point, not a chance
    in hell. I am returning it immediately after receipt. What happens after
    that point is entirely up to you. If your company reimburses me the full
    $423.99 payment on the order plus whatever shipping charges it costs
    me to return the machine to you that I never should have received, we
    can still part ways peacefully. If instead you choose to stand behind
    your employees lies, failure to cancel my order, and fraudulent
    shipping of this order and not reimburse me for my return shipping
    cost, I will go so very far out of my way to share all screenshots and
    recordings of your company's handling of my order in every online
    marketplace I can find where it will have the most impact, causing as
    much bad publicity for you as I possibly can, and I guarantee that it'll
    end up costing you more than processing my request to cancel the
    order would have. That's all I have to say. The ball is once again in your
    court.

    The reply:
    Your request (2345878) has been updated. To add additional comments, reply to this
    email.
