I find myself coming back to Design Bundles more & more for various tutorials and info. I like that you don’t come across like aerobics instructors from the 80’s-constantly talking about how happy you are while smearing the screen with a glossy frozen smile. Ugh. Here, we get straight to the point/tutorials/advice. Down to earth. Like having coffee with a neighbor while being shown how to use expensive investment (I bought both Cameo 4 and Maker 3…because…yanno…) And is anyone else drooling over all those rolls of supplies she has? Just purchased over-the-door storage for rolls of vinyl, but think I like this set up better!

I own both, the Cricut is more polished, it's quieter and it feels like a more quality product. The Cameo 4 is lighter, louder, finicky at times with registration marks, slow at connecting for bluetooth, plastic feels cheap. Which do I prefer? The Cameo 4 and the reason why is the software, I prefer silhouette over Design Space. And if you are into stickers, Cameo cuts full page without having to put crazy tape on a mat. I plan to keep both and can do about anything on either one but if I only had to choose one, it would be the Cameo 4

I sold my Cricut couple of days ago. the software was absolutely terrible. print and cut was super in-accurate sometimes 5mm off.
no possibility to adjust the cutting speed. very difficult to import images maintaining their original dimensions. and I can continue for some while.
also the Cricut team is very arrogant, they ignore feedback.
I'm gonna try the silhouette. I heard that the software is much better, and gives more freedom.
the Cricut is not a bad machine, only the software makes it bad. and all 3th party software needed to abort there support for it.

The software seems to be where the biggest differences are but the programs can both be downloaded for free and work with both machines.

cricut maker seems sturdier, if you want to do print and cut stuff? silhouette lets you do larger stuff. you can do it with a cricut, but you really have to jump thru a few hoops. hoping Becky has a tutorial on it somewhere. I have the Maker, but use Silhouette Business for designing. export as SVG then cut on the Cricut Maker. I'm waiting for the 15" Silhouette to become available. everyone seems to be sold out. I'd heard that the 4 (not the plus) had issues but don't know that for certain.
so - in summary - I have made a lot of masks using my Cricut, but now want to cut out sublimation designs and have to learn how to print them using silhouette to my sublimation printer and then align them up in such a way that cricut will allow me to cut full page size. Silhouette Business Studio is well worth the money. I've been in graphics for 30+ years and I use it more than my expensive Adobe and Corel. you can always find a coupon and there are tons of tutorials.

@@ale347baker The maximum image size for Print Then Cut is 9.25" x 6.75" but there is a way to utilize the almost 8.5 x 11 but you have to jump thru a few hoops. the basis is that you have to print your project first - not thru cricut or at least not using the print and cut feature because you want it bigger. then you have to make an image that is comparable in size that is only a CUT file. that way - you will place your file on your mat (the one you printed) but you have to make cricut think it's a piece of vinyl.
where I am having issues is making sure that the cut file cuts where I want it to. it has something to do with the placement of your printed design on the mat in the correct spot.
If all you want to do is print and cut and don't want it bigger than cricut allows. then just do it. I am making tags to sublimate onto a cotton shirt and need them cut out in such a way that I'm not wasting the Easi Subli material I'll be printing on.

Hey Monica! Since there are so many materials available (and tools), most softer materials (leather, balsa wood) can be cut with a combination of software settings and tools. For example, the knife tool is what you would need (for either machine) to cut balsa wood, which is much softer than "real" wood. Thicker styles of leather would also require a knife tool or perhaps a deep cut blade. There are just too many to relay individually. But these two machines are very comparable, and you would be able to cut the same materials with either one. Hope this helps! ---Becky

I used to be in the imprinted sportswear business for 10 years. I did all the graphics and digitizing for the shop. I had a color laser printer Tabloid size, a 24 In vinyl print and cut machine from Stahls (could cut kiss cut tackle twill), 2 heat presses and a cap press, and a 6-head Tajima embroidery machine. I wish, now, I had taken these machines with me. ( a long bad partnership story) anyway, I used CorelDraw to do all the graphics. I still have CorelDraw 2017 but haven't used it in a while. It can make SVG files so I assume I could make whatever I want in there and use it on either machine? I do remember having software to bring it to the machine but I created in Corel. I'm a carpenter by trade (before and after this 10 yr venture) I use Sketchup now for 3d drawing and modeling my work. I'm building a wood shop for a variety of things. Current business, future semi-retired crafting, and hobbies. I have basically an unlimited source for scrap materials so I figure with my experience in the IS business and carpentry skills and tools I should be able to create . . . something LOL

Hi. Thank you for the great review. Im trying to surprise my wife with a cameo 4 or a maker but, I have a few concerns/ questions. If you could help with your insight i would appreciate it.
How is the cameo with regard to cutting wood? I've only been able to find limited information, and all of it "bad". For example, the knife blade had to be adjusted manually for each pass, and no one had been able to get good results. The maker seems to be more automatic and get great results.
Also how much of a big deal the ability to cut 3mm thick material v.s. 2.4 mm? Is this the game changer people claimit to be?
The same house for the cemeos 5kg force vs the makers 4kg force.
Wrestling with these issues is what's keeping me from pulling the trigger on either machine.
    Your insight would be appreciated.

    • @DesignBundles
      @DesignBundles  4 года назад +3

Hey there! Sorry to keep you hanging for so long. No, neither machine is going to cut actual wood, which is a little misleading in some of the promotional material you will find. The quality of wood you will cut with a desktop crafting machine like this will be thin balsawood.
These machines are going to be very comparable in force and the materials it will cut, the biggest change is the software. Silhouette Studio is very robust but can also be off-putting for beginners. If you are looking for truly cutting wood, you will need a laser cutter (like a Glowforge) but they are much more expensive. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions! ---Becky

Hey Kim! Technically, no, there is no subscription required and I have a videos to show you how to convert images from Silhouette Studio to use in Design Space for free. However, the recent announcement by Cricut in regards to uploads would still apply here because you are still uploading new files into Design Space, so once you get to 20 uploads, you would need to wait until the next month or subscribe to Cricut Access (according to what I have read). Hope this helps! ---Becky

hello.. what would you recommend for a firstime user who is not techi 😂? i currently use a sizzix die cut manual machine but looking at these type of machines for a but nore variety of what i can do. but i am a bit affraid if the software is something my brain can understand 😂

I'll be honest, if you are not interested in learning how to design in the software and want a more plug-and-play machine, probably Cricut will better meet your needs. Hope this helps! ---Becky

I have a Cameo - t ihink it is a 2. It will no longer talk to the computer , ie wont cut. Thinking about getting the Cricut Maker as more user friendly for not so tech savvy peeps like myself. Question is I have heaps of purchased files in my library with Silhouette , is there a way to use these with a cricut as some are my all time favs.

Unfortunately no, you won't be able to use Silhouette Design Store files in Cricut Design Space, they are proprietary to Silhouette America. Sorry I don't have better news. ---Becky

I'm currently trying to decide between these two, the software isn't an issue for me as I'm confident using Adobe Illustrator and feel I could adapt to either. what I'm most interested in is how they adapt to different materials. I want to do a range of things with the machine from cutting stickers for my journal through to cutting waste plastic from plastic bottles. I know plastic isn't necessarily a listed material but as what i want to cut is a similar thickness to acetate and definitely thinner than leather I thought it might be possible? Which machine would you recommend?
    thank you

Hey Kt! I would probably still recommend the Silhouette Cameo just based on the fact that you can purchase an upgrade that will connect AI to the machine, making it super easy for you. The machines are comparable enough that either should cut the material you are looking for. Hope this helps! ---Becky
