I can't even laugh about this anymore. This has been an exhausting four years. (edit: ok 3 years my b)
You are in for another 4 years after the elections. I think the GOP is just staying loyal, so they can cement power and get a better candidate positioned after that. The Senate will never be democratic. Most states are GOP-lead even if they don't represent the majority of voters.
And if it is about staying in power, why sink an elected president of your own party? From the outside (yes I am biased and not living in the US) this is really getting exhausting. We all know what is going to happen:
Senate throws out the Impeachment as soon as possible, DP news will be outraged and more scandals will be unveiled but nothing happens. GOP news will say it is justice and the president did nothing wrong in the first place.
Some democratic candidate will get the majority of voters but not the electoral college due to the imbalance of voter balance between the few big democratic states and the many small republican states, so the world will have to endure another 4 years with Donald Trump. Not having to worry about reelection and not having to worry about impeachment, he will probably get more elitist.
The House will perhaps stay in democratic hands (let's hope so) and nothing big will happen. And in another 4 years we will have the next GOP candidate that has to mobilize voters that would probably prefer Trump. That might be harder, but the truth is: They will find a candidate that can say the same things.
The only thing that could change that would be a messianic-like candidate that can swing so many hardcore Trumpians, that will not happen. Perhaps someone who was not Hillary Clinton could have beaten him in 2016 who knows. But I don't think anyone can beat him 2020.

There is virtually no oversight, Presidents in the past have been only beholden to a public standard of decency, and if that's thrown out (as it has been), how are they to be held responsible? They aren't. For example -- the tax returns, divestment from private business ventures (Mar-a-Lago), records/transcripts of telephone calls. That should be LAW, not simply precedent.

Our Constitution is laid out in a way that, gives a notable advantage to less populated regions in our country. The true importance of this was realized sooner by Republicans than Democrats, who then set about INCREASING that advantage in their favor via gerrymandering and other tactics. As such, the electoral deck has been stacked in their favor for some time, and we can only hope to balance it out after 2020, assuming we win, playing against the stacked deck.

A real man would testify in his case if he knew he was innocent.
It's a bad idea to testify in most of cases where you are the defendant, there is a reason you can plead the 5th and it is a very good idea to do so.
That being said, withholding evidence in an investigation is a crime, especially when it is subpoenad by Congress, and is definitely not something an innocent person would do. Also, innocent people don't admit that they committed the crime that they are on trial for on national television multiple times. So it's definitely still a clusterfuck.

There goes another Republican, acting like these questions haven't been answered _countless_ times. We are here to determine whether there is any truth to the allegation that Trump has committed impeachable offenses. Maybe one sincerely believes he _has._ Maybe one sincerely believes he _hasn't._ Either way, one who is sincere has no reason to hold up or try to shut down an impeachment.

The biggest fun was when that question was answered featuring a quote from the Notorious B.I.G from the senator whose district includes Brooklyn, where Biggy was born and raised. There was more style and dignity in that answer than the 2019/2020 hit song from the GOP Big Band: "The only standard that will survive is my music standard (unless uncle Don want's me to go postal on it)"
I believe at least half of the republicans in their actually have a conscience but are in a difficult moral dilemma. Their conscience is telling them to do the right thing and pursue the truth, but their brain knows that this will anger their republican base and cause them to lose reelection

I.e.: complying with subpoenas will be optional; lying to Congress will be acceptable; employers will no longer be able to fire employees for theft or lying; denial of guilt defines innocence. The list is endless.
