    Stephen Colbert has the rare gift to be able to tell when he needs to make a joke and when he needs to make a point. When he speaks from his heart, he speaks with conviction and honesty. He's not afraid to stand up for what he truly believes and he does it to make the public truly aware of what is going on. What an outstanding and exceptional man. Bravo.

    While I disagree with Mitt Romney on many things, that moment when he went silent out of the overwhelming emotion he felt speaking of his oath to God was indeed a drink of water in the desert. His nobility showed through at that moment. His manhood showed through at that moment. His love of country shone at that moment. I cannot thank Stephen enough for the quote from A Man for All Seasons. I would hold the image of holding yourself in your own hands like water when taking an oath. Growing up in a very red district, Stephen's old show taught me I didn't have to be ashamed of my progressivism. It's monologues like this that bring me back to that time; an oasis of laughter in a desert of hypocrisy. In my own small way, I try to live my faith, too...and GOOD LORD, I needed that. Boogie Woogie Doodle Boy I love this comment! I’ve been a conservative for years, but was born and raised in Hawai’i...arguably the most blue state in America. But in my defense, I’m the kind of conservative that believes in smaller govt interference and tax cuts for the low- and middle-class...that’s what conservatives used to believe. That’s why I’ll be voting for Bernie Sanders this year, ‘cause my Party has let me down...and Bernie’s been preaching the same things he preached when I first heard him speak in 1992, looking out for the little guy/girl.

    • @SeanShimamoto
      @SeanShimamoto 4 года назад +1

      wwagner07 Yes, I detest as many republicans and I do democrats...but to say that they’re ALL bad is infantile, to speak in absolutes like that is either jaded or ignorant. And if you seriously think that our President asking TWO foreign powers to interfere in our Presidential elections isn’t that bad...you need to go and read our Constitution again, ‘cause that’s one of the reasons that our forefathers implemented impeachment, and the co-equal powers, to ensure that our President didn’t become a dictator...and each co-equal power is supposed to guard their own power, not succumb to another and relinquish their power to them...which is what Mitch McConnell’s been doing for the last year.

    • @N0oDleZ9

      @@SeanShimamoto every president does bad things, its the good that you have to take into account. and also all he did was say to Ukraine that joe biden was up to shady stuff. was he? yes. other then that all this quid pro quo is blown out of proportion. trump is arguably one of the best presidents when you take into account how much he was able to do in just one term. this impeachment was the democrats last shot to win in the next election, its the impeachment thats corrupt, not trump. but, trump is also corrupt. see how that works? politics is a corrupt business but as long as americans are benefiting (which they are rn) then im ok with it. america is doing pretty fantastic other then the divide between dems and rebubs, but then again what else is new.

    • @SeanShimamoto
      @SeanShimamoto 4 года назад

      wwagner07 OMG, you need to read our Constitution again...or maybe for the first time. There is soooo much wrong with your comment that it would take me 20 minutes to post them all out. I’ve been a proud Republican since the Reagan Administration, but I have been totally and utterly disgusted by my party these last 3 years. Just as ONE example of his corrupt and disgusting nature is his proposed budget...he’a slashing social security, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, and increasing the pentagon’s budget. I don’t know about you but I have old relatives who rely on those services after pouring tons of money into them over the course of 4-5 decades...and now when they’re supposed to be reaping the benefits of those programs, they’re not! Then there’s the 1.3 TRILLION DOLLAR tax cuts he gave to HIMSELF and his ULTRA RICH FRIENDS...their taxes went from 35% to 21%!!! That’s less than what we pay! Conservatism is supposed to be about tax cuts for the middle-class. And before you go on about that bull$hit trickle down crap...even the GOP admitted that it doesn’t work! So you can go on believing that he’s a great president, but unless you’re White (which you obviously are), a male, and straight...Trump is NOT gonna be working on your best interest. Trump is a sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, islamaphobic, LIAR who’s cheated on ALL 3 OF HIS WIVES (the most recent WHEN SHE WAS PREGNANT!) and I find him to be the most repulsive, and CORRUPT, man who’s ever worked in the Oval Office.

If he wanted the public to know what happened so bad, he could have volunteered to testify. He did not. He knows his constituents in Utah aren't huge fans of Trump, so he does this to throw them a bone and knows full well it won't lead to anything. If his vote was the deciding factor in this fiasco, it's far more likely that he would've abstained over anything else.
      All this shows is that there's a lot of gullible people out there willing to claim Mitt a member of the "resistance" when he's anything but. to me, Seth Meyers looks more like the one currently wearing that crown. this was a beautiful monologue, and Colbert really nails the political angles some of the time. but i don't always think his take is the most incisive - like heaping all this praise on romney while glossing over the fact that he only voted to convict on one of the two counts (can you imagine thinking that trump didn't obstruct congress?). "A Closer Look" usually digs deep into the issues of the day, in a way that i think is more critical and more informative than Colbert's angle. on the other hand, Colbert really sells it with his personality and emotion.
      anyway, obviously i'm a fan of both! but Seth Meyers is carrying the "dark times" torch highest for me, anyway.

      @@sadewolfkitten There was no evidence. Literally zero. Every single witness they put forward, under cross examination, said that they were assuming, presuming, connecting the dots, reading between the lines. Not a single one had first hand knowledge of the president's intentions. Without establishment of intent, you don't have a crime. They are presuming it was for political benefit in the 2020 election, but there is literally not one piece of evidence to indicate that. The aid wasn't going to expire until october 1st, it was released on september 11th, there is no way to prove that Trump wouldn't have released the aid on time.
      The house also failed to employ the actual procedure within the the ICA to resolve a dispute with the executive on release of funds.
      The entire process and investigation has been ridiculous, closed door hearings with selective leaks to the media, whatever leaks would make Trump look the worst, several people who were interviewed that made Trump look better were never allowed to be interviewed in public by house republicans, and at least one of those testimony still has not been seen by anyone but the committee.
      You are also probably unaware the the same day Trump has his second phone call with zelensky, the IMF was going to be meeting with him to discuss corruption in ukraine, and the aid was released to ukraine on the same exact day the IMF released loan guarantees to urkaine.
      You are also probably unaware that the bank of latvia flagged wire transfers and sent an affidavit to the ukraine prosecutor's office stating that millions had gone through shell companies in cyprus, to latvian banks to be laundered to hunter biden. This has been reported on in urkaine and in europe, but somehow not in mainstream media here. Reporters were reporting on hunter biden and his business dealings from 2015-2019 early, then biden says he is running and the stories stop, then trump makes his infamous call and the transcript is released and suddenly they all start retracting their stories and saying the urkaine biden story is a dubunked conspiracy theory.
      If Trump's goal was to knock joe biden out of the 2020 election, why was rudy giuliani investigating in ukraine in 2018? Almost a full year before biden announced he was running?
      Every single thing you think you know about the case is either a lie or a misrepresentation because schiff was hoping to control the narrative from start to finish.
