You had a really unpopular, one term lame duck incumbent, who was so bad that he had to drop out in an unprecedented fashion, and his replacement basically ran a campaign that said “yeah we’re gonna do more of the same, maybe even copy our opponents”.

You're talking about at least 11 to 16 flights of SpaceX just to have the payload to dump enough fuel into space for storage so the last SpaceX rocket can refuel after spending all it's fuel just to get out of Earth's orbit. Then all the fuel from the previous 11 to 16 flights will need to be used to refuel SpaceX again, just so it can go to Mars. There's still no explanation for how they'll have the fuel necessary to leave Mars with their giant rocket. Not to mention all the other engineering and just human challenges left to face just to survive in space. It's not going to happen the way you think it will. The subject of john oliver came up when a colleague (fellow psychologist) and I were discussing politics a few months ago. Although we were both in agreement regarding the general shitlib inanity of the HBO show, my friend
was surprised when I explained that the real insidiousness of it is its unmistakably hypnotic structure and pacing. I ended up pulling up an episode or two off of youtube to show her what I meant. All of the segments I've ever seen from this show follow the same repetitive format: present some "argumentation" and "facts" for about 10 seconds,
then quickly follow these up with a snarky quip (which themselves overwhelmingly take the form of complete non-sequitur or otherwise absurd metaphor) before any rational processing of the preceding argument can take place in the mind of the viewer. Further telling is that the only 'beats' or mental pauses in the show's pacing exist solely to highlight the approving laughter or
applause of the studio audience. Repeat this basic formula without variation 20-40 times in a row and you have one of the 12-20 minute
'segments' that form the backbone of the show. The end effect is (obviously) not to deliver information, but rather to literally teach the viewers -- on a subconscious level - to mentally associate derisive laughter with any person or opinion that is at odds with the narrative's take on the chosen issue. And it accomplishes this by maintaining a strict adherence to a roughly 20-second cycle in which a stimulus is presented, and a response is cued. This is the
sense in which the show is fundamentally hypnotic in effect - even moreso than its precursors in the genre (Daily Show, Colbert, etc). To my mind, oliver's show is representative of the media's increasing mastery of the methodologies of mass conditioning; in fact it is almost such a perfect technical accomplishment

It's the aesthetic that they are after, not the meaning behind it. Take for example the Iron Cross which in its strictest definition is a Prussian and German military award given for bravery and acts of exceptional quality done by a German soldier, now it serves as a decoration for far-right folks. Or the Totenkopf (Death's Head) which is emblematic of the SS but it originally started as a symbol for the various German military units such as the Prussian Cavalry or the Brunswick infantry along with black uniforms...

If "white people" are in danger of losing elections, they simply "promote" an outgroup to "whiteness". Like they did with Irish and Italians. They then become "just regular Americans" and protect the "white man's interests, they "play ball." There is just one group that will never be "promoted", though individuals can be promoted. For others, it's theoretically open to negotiation - if they play ball. It's the dirty secret of our democracy.

people are hurting economically after inflation was high. Thankfully, inflation rates are down and staying down. However, wages have not increased.. While Democrats sucked campaigning and can't push a narrative to save their lives..
Lowering taxes, cracking down on price gouging/ predatory pricing practices from groceries to medicines (insulin, life sustaining meds), and expressing pro labor/union sentiments, etc. All sound, (and are currently), tremendously beneficial for everyday, working, Americans.
Much more so than inflationary universal tariffs, revocations for affordable care, deporting millions of immigrants, regardless of potential economic impacts, not mentioning the insane costs and logistics for the proposed scale... I could go on but reality and policy doesn't matter much. When after the election, top Google queries included "what are tariffs?" And "Can I change my vote?".
What's to remember years ago any way?..
People on affordable care, praise Trunp for stating he'll end obamacare. Immigrants will cheer on for deportations because they're the good immigrants even if undocumented, because they work and are not criminals...they believe
If people really cared about uplifting/detrimental policies and their wallets/economic stability, I'd be inclined to believe they'd appreciate Harris's proposals instead of voting for tariffs without even knowing what a tariff is.

This election added yet another far-right council member -making them the majority, which seemed to be the last straw for our Town Manager. This past week the Town Council had its first meeting since the election. Over 50 people from our small town showed up to support our Town Manager and berate the Council members. Every time a president leaves office, we get the most benefit from his policies. It's such a farce to sit and watch people respond with their gut reactions. So hard to remain patient when these people are most of the electorate. We need better education.

I mean, having actually been involved in supply chain, sales, and engineering-things absolutely were better under Trump, even during the pandemic, by very very wide margins.
We'll see what his tariffs do but Harris's plan would have directly led to a depression, assuming she could execute it.

Yeah, people still lived to around 63 years old before medicare and social security. Trying to survive with heart disease, cancer, or pneumonia without those resources is not so bad. Apathy definitely won every war. Definitely.

This is the only silver lining: all those idiot governors and congressional reps who get pulled into his administration will no longer be in Congress or state government. And they'll likely be fired by Trump randomly sometime next year.
